The old man has finally tapped you on the shoulder and said its time my friend. It's time. Just look out the window and smile. RIP Toby Keith 1961-2024 ❤
Heart breaking 💔 😢 my deepest condolences to the family ,friends and fans he will truly be missed his songs will live on forever rip toby 🙏 always, and forever in our hearts.
I was watching an interview with Toby Keith he was asked how he came about writing this song. He said he was golfing with Clint Eastwood and asked him how does he do it, how does he keep going? And Clint said, every morning I get up and go outside, I don’t let the old man in. Both fabulous cowboys!!
RIP Toby 😔 I’ve never been a big country music fan. I don’t dislike it, but just wasn’t raised with it. But when I was a Soldier in Iraq, Toby visited our small camp and put on a wonderful show that brightened everyone’s spirits. His willingness to get away from the big venues in Kuwait and Baghdad, where large numbers of Soldiers were stationed, and get out to the smaller, less secure areas, really impressed me. He seemed so down to earth, and was willing to chat with Soldiers about their families, their concerns, or whatever they wanted to talk about. I have a lot of respect for this man and and his music; especially this song.
I'm an old man now, beat up, tired, broke and living alone. I've got pains - but this song gives me hope and courage and lifts the darkness. Thanks Toby.
You're never alone. Tired, beat up, broke and living alone with pains to remind you that you're still alive. Enjoy every day; make friends; be a friend to others. Was given a plaque recently, it says: EVERY DAY MAY NOT BE GOOD BUT THERE IS GOOD IN EVERY DAY - it's true but don't sit and wait for the good to happen.
This song is my life. Just turned 80. But I am forever 34. I have 2 businesses, and the secret is to get up everyday and haul ass. Haul ass! Keep moving so the old man can't catch you. The most meaningful song ever written. Keep hauling ass too, Toby and Clint..❤❤
Met him at a gas station in Oklahoma. I had hurt my hand and couldn't get my gas cap off, I was cussing like a sailor when he walked up and asked if he could give me a hand. I just about fell over. He opened it for me and told me to have a good day. I said thank you thinking I've just had an absolutely fabulous day. Very much a gentleman. Thank you again Toby....RIP heaven got a fabulous man.
Your dad sounds like an amazing man. With a great heart and a great mind he’s in heaven walking with God. What else could be better than that and he’s hanging out with all his old buddies, amen
I am 80 years old; I had a subarachnoid hemorrhage in 1995, my right leg amputated in 2000, a stroke in 2006, and I just completed throat cancer treatment with a clean, cancer-free PET scan on October 26, 2023. God and Duke Hospital cured me. God is great, I love life.
Toby played this at an award show, his first performance since his cancer diagnosis. He looked....older, worn. This song was so much more poignant on that stage. Rest now sir. Thanks for the music.
peter rech Damn, your a real American badass! My grandpa was a paratrooper with the 11th in WW2, fought in combat during Korean War with the 24th infantry where he was almost killed, he received a Purple Heart, bronze star, and battlefield commission. He also served in the signal Corps stationed in Vietnam and retired in 1970. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He never asked for respect, but he damn well deserved it, and so do you, my friend. Thank you.
This reminds me of my Dad. He was so young. He retired at 65. He lost 70 pounds for the heart problems he wanted to avoid. 3 months later, he was diagnosed with ALS/progressive. He chose to write a no resuscitation note. A month before he turned 66, he got pneumonia and passed away. He was a young man all my life. He had long given up his addictions for the Lord. Loved by all
Toby is the reason I started listening to country music. He was a good example for my kids & grandkids. Hell, he’s a fabulous example for everyone! RIP & love to you Toby!
So sorry for your loss. I am 73 and my grandson saved my life, not allowing me to lie in bed and succumb to Pneumonia and check out. Called an ambulance, which I told him not to 4 days in ICU. Glad he loved me enough to keep me around.
Great song Toby! 74 years old and lost my wife of 48 years suddenly last September. Was feeling pretty old and lost for a while but want you to know how much this song and video made me think about my life and where I was headed. Was a rough go but doing okay now. I listen to it every morning and it motivates me to be the best I can be. Thanks, Toby!
Hi, I'm sorry about your wife but I'm so happy you're not feeling old, my grandma turned 80 in January and me and mom like to call it leveling up, you're never getting older, just wiser! :)
I can certainly identify, I turned 80 last April and had to make a whole life adjustment. This week I'm going into a studio with a Nashville producer and recording some original country songs. Your never to old to Rock n' Roll!
Jim Kelly Shotgun Willie and The RedHeaded Stranger albums bring me comfort in my times of need, I hope they can do the same for you. Love is magical, especially 48yrs of it!
Toby glanced out his window last night, but to his surprise, a Beautiful Young Angel was riding up on a Snowy White Horse. God has summoned me to take you to paradise tonight. You should see the celebration they have planned for you. Toby touched her wing and off to Heaven he went. Rest Sweetly Dear Friend. You made this world a better place ❤❤❤❤
My brother passed away good Friday but he was kept on the machines to enable for his organs to be donated to other people, so he finally went to heaven Sunday. This song is perfect for him. He had Parkinsons & was on dialysis, so this is for you brother. Going to miss you lots, love you. Give momma a kiss from us. 💔 😢
God bless you 🙏. I lost my oldest brother Steve in 14 . Just passed 10 years, It makes me sad but you just got to keep going. I miss him, but I act just like him, more often than not . I guess I'm keeping him alive in a way . Memories are what keep me going, you hang in there . Take it one day at a time 🙏.
@@ChristopherTeague-cs8vgChris I know you probably had a tough time writing this comment.Because I had a hard time reading it.😭.I haven’t talk to my Brother in about 2 weeks but after reading your comment I’m going to call him.Thank You Chris.
Hey, just came across a favourite actor of mine . read his article on how he still stays young. Don't let the old man in, and to my surprise another favourite Toby Keith wrote the song; I was shocked he had passed away.Very sad but a great song.
Toby. This is the story of my life. I am 81 years old and embarking on a new career writing and teaching e-courses in the medical and dental field - an area in which I have been involved for over 20 years. Every morning I wake up, bless what works, ignore what doesn't, walk for an hour along the shores of a beautiful bay, here in Sydney Australia where I live. For me, this is the best line in the song “Ask yourself how old you’d be if you didn’t know the day you were born”. And, when the time comes to 'look out the window and smile, and let the old man in', I'll be ready for that. Thank you for this amazing work.
What I’ve read about Toby Keith. He’s a Christian, married to the same woman for 40 years and loved being a father to 3 kids. You don’t find many people in that business who can accomplish that. Although your wife and children will miss you terribly, they will be comforted knowing you are with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
My Dad went home to be with the Lord just before last Thanksgiving day. He was a great man i wish i had known that when i was younger and foolish. He drove a log till he was 80 and only quit because he couldn't hardly climb in any more. He died at 85 and 2 years after my mom passed. He would mention her every time we talked . Love them while you can.
Young and foolish, I hear that loud and clear, made the same mistake, wish I had even just an hour with my dad again. He made me who I am today, wish I could thank him.
Young and foolish isn’t a mistake, it was just a chapter in your life that brought you to where you are today, just like the days when our dads were young and foolish!
This song reminds me of my grandpa. He was very old when he died, but he fought as hard as he could, he had a heart attack at 86 and managed to continue living until he was 92! He was never crippled or needed assistance or a wheelchair, he fought in 3 wars and was the toughest, best person I’ve ever known. Rest In Peace, Papa. 🇺🇸
I'm 73 I'm 73 years old and this song means so much to me. I slowed down so much. My wife died 2 years ago. The love of my life my son died when he was 19 on his 19th birthday. My heart is broken. I sit here alone with the dog. Don't have much company. Hardly ever. It's a lonesome world when you're all along. So get up and go see somebody this old. Put your arms around them and tell him you love them and make them feel like Carrie and all it breaks. My heart to know I'm the final one left which I should have been gone years ago. I've got agent orange from Vietnam but this whole this something breaks my heart cuz I have let the old man in and it's just a matter of time. Sure, I'll be with Toby but he was such a great great person. Very patriotic. I loved him so much. His music was an inspiration to me. His life was an inspiration to me. I'm a Christian. I look forward to heaven can't leave my dog but when my dog goes I'll probably go right after. So if you know somebody at sold and alone go put your arms around them. Tell him you love them and they're not alone cuz sometimes I feel so alone. Thanks for listening to me. Good night
My dad, Wayne Robert Burns, died on May 21, 2023. I was with him when he passed. I am gutted, and this song is ridiculously great.... I love you dad, miss you like crazy
Sorry for your loss..I’m older than farm dirt, but I get up everyday and thank God that I get to be in his presence for another day.. Keep listening my friend.
Clint Eastwood not only one of the greatest actors/director/producer ever but that might just be the best movie ending song I've ever heard and Toby Keith knocked it out of the park. Prayers for TK right now as he is having health issues hopefully God will get him through this.
Every time I hear this song. I break down and cry. Oh Toby I miss you so much. Now I listen to your concerts and then I think of you being so happy to see you perform. And I realize you are healed from your cancer. And you are doing your concerts up in heaven now. RIP TOBY YOU WILL BE SORELY MISSED. BUT YOU ARE VERY WELL NOW AND GOD LOVES COUNTRY MUSIC. SO SING YOUR HEART OUT TOBY. GOD BLESS YOU. I AM SMILING NOW WITH GLEE.
I lost my dad two days ago, and even before the hospital visit, and all the desperation, he told me he wanted me to sing this at his funeral. Before he died, we had friends and family at the hospital for brisket and burnt ends, he got to play poker one last time, and I sang a few different things for him. My way, bones in the ocean, Valhalla calling, even, but the one I sang most by far was this. I love you dad, I always will.
On this Veterans Day, it is hard to imagine the bravery, determination and sacrifice this generation showed. Look at the young men of today , the indoctrination in the schools, the bias of the media to shame anyone who stands for our nation. Go to the campuses across the country and how many of the students and faculty say they are ashamed of this country and what it stands for. Unfortunately it takes hard times to make hard men.
My mother made it to 92. Travelled had a boy friend . never stopped moving forward. she said to keep moving or the devil will catch you, miss her every day
TOBY HAD SOME GOOD SONGS AND SOME FUNNY VIDEOS . HE SEEMED TO BE JUST A DECENT GOOD GUY. R I P. My friend. We shared the same month and year. They say 1961 was a good year. 🤠🙏❤🙏
Don’t Let The Old Man In The song was written by Toby Keith after spending some time with 88-year-old actor-director-filmmaker, Clint Eastwood. Keith asked Eastwood, “what keeps you going?” and he said, “I get up every day and don't let the old man in.” The rest is history. Keith wrote a song for him called 'Don't Let the Old Man In.’ The song, released today and will be in the new Eastwood movie ‘The Mule,’ which will be released this year on December 14. The Mule is American crime film produced and directed by Clint Eastwood, who also plays the lead role. The screenplay is by Nick Schenk, based on The New York Times article "The Sinaloa Cartel's 90-Year-Old Drug Mule" by Sam Dolnick. The film is based on the true story of Leo Sharp, an award-winning horticulturist and decorated WWII veteran known for his prized daylilies when he was busted for running drugs for Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel, and sent to prison at the age of 90. He was transporting $3 million worth of cocaine through Michigan in his beat-up old pickup truck when he was arrested by the DEA. Sharp was sentenced to just three years after his lawyer argued that his client’s dementia sent him down the wrong path. As many of you know I'm on the path heading toward my twilight days and times like these really are supportive on this journey...

This song hits home right now to me, my father 79 years old just suffered a stroke last Friday while on his way to work driving a tractor at midnight packing hay. I Praise God he is still with us and fighting to go back to work. Men like my father are a rare breed, hard working , loving yet tough. I'm sitting in the hospital listening to this song and just remembering what a great man my father is.
Dam sorry for what you are going through my pa palm That is a great song I think IAM just a little bit older I have to get my kids to tell me love you so much please don't ever stop singing frist time I cried like a baby please don't ever stop

The news today has left me absolutely gutted😢 We've lost a true treasure. I'm forever grateful for the gift of you and your art. Love you, brother❤ ⭕️Boomer
Rest in peace old man. It was a pleasure pulling security for you. Wish we could talked more. Just know I'm crying on the outside dying on the inside and drinking as many beers as possible in your honor. You were a damn good friend to me. Don't give heaven too much hell
Came here in tears today I learned Toby Kieth has passed away from stomach cancer. May he rest well pain-free singing where ever his new journey has taken him.😢❤
I’m near eighty two. My girls tell me I do more than most 20 year olds. Love the song thank you Toby . I refuse to let my age define me. I also lost my husband of 57 years and it’s hard to go on at times.
Jean Kingston ...all of the moms of your generation, here and gone, salute you. My moms gone, but my parents taught us to respect and dont call people by their first names Mrs. Kingston.🗽
Turning 71 with heart problems. Medicine suppose to help makes everyday a living hell, but i try to keep moving forward. My husband 71, fighting agent orange from viet nam, helps me everyday to have best day possible. The old man and the old woman beats on the door daily, we try hard to not let them in.
Dearest Toby, you fought the good fight and God gently welcomed your Sweet Soul Home. You passed on my daughter's birthday and she was the one to text me the sad news. Rest in Peace😇😇❤❤
And....Toby passed on the same day as my Father...My Dad died on February 5th 1960...he was only 58 years old when my Mother and I lost him. I was 13 years old then...soon to be...77 in April...and I still miss him terribly bad...there is not a week that goes by that I don't think of my Father and the wonderful memories of him...May our God rest Toby Keith's soul...as so many have said...He was truly a TREASURE...and GIFT to ALL of us from God.
@@texandnc my Dad passed in 1977 when I was 17. The pain of losing your hero and the best man I ever knew never goes away. My Dad had just turned 48 in February 15 1977 and then passed in his sleep March 1 1977. I'm so sorry you lost your Dad so young. My Faith tells me they are perfectly fine but someone still has to convince my heart. I'm the oldest of 3 girls and we adored our Daddy so much. Coming up on 47 years without that beautiful soul. This song is our family song. It's been played at mine and my siblings' weddings. On June 20, 2024, we lost my brother Todd after an extended illness. We played it at his funeral. Angels Among Us will always hold a special place in our hearts ❤
I lost my Dad to prostate cancer a few months before this song came out. I really wish he could have heard it. I think it encompasses his outlook on life. He's the best man I've ever known. Not sure why I'm telling everybody this, but I hope you can take something from this song and never stop fighting the good fight. Life is short...get up and go outside.
Do not go gentle into that good night Dylan Thomas - 1914-1953 Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
I would add to this, go outside, acknowledge the Creator, live in the light that we must all give account of our lives before Him and this short life is the boot camp of eternity for those who inherit the Kingdom. We did not morph from bacteria over vast imaginary eons
I'm a 75 year old Marine Corps veteran and I just wanted to tell you this video has provided me much needed inspiration. I've lived a very good life, I have a wonderful wife and son and I'm still learning to appreciate who I am, what I've done and how proud I am of my life and family. Just ran across this video today and I plan to watch it often for a better perspective. Thank you!
Amen brother. Just lost my 91 year old friend, Marine corp. Major Lou O’Neil. Lived an amazing life. And told me about this song before he moved on. I may just read this at his memorial. So true. Hope you’re still ok.
Some said I was hopeless ... tangled in the night Strong hearts just keep going That is why I'm still standing here today … Come together Raise up your voices This time my song of love and life won't go away I'll sing forever Here in the sunshine I've lived to see the sun break through the storm And I'm so glad I'm standing here today
It will be a huge loss when we lose Mr Eastwood, IMO the last of the old time tough guys. I love him so much & nothing better then listening to Toby Keith sing but it sure made me see Mr Eastwood's mortality on screen.
Next time someone says the phrase "toxic masculinity," maybe we should try saying, "I, too, have a two-word summary of that situation: Clint Eastwood."
This song though....why does this feel like a brother died? Praying for your family, Toby...thank you for sharing a wonderful human with the rest of us...praying for peace and comfort for you all now...God bless... 😢😢🙏🏻🙏🏻
First time hearing this and full of tears as it’s 2 days after Toby has went home but I have had huge issues turning 50 which was last year and now I feel ashamed. I need to buck up and be more thankful for the 51 years I have been given and need to look forward to 50 more. I know it’s late saying this but thanks Toby. You did it again. And I’m sure you always will
Never heard this song till just now! It’s the Truth ! 68 and feeling it! The old man has been knocking at my door for 3 years! Thing is? He’s always been a friend of mine and I am letting him in and pouring him a hot cup of coffee! We need to talk about life ! God grant you eternal rest Toby ! Through your music I was introduced to Country Music! Thank you buddy!
He wrote it for a Clint Eastwood movie called "The Mule" about 5 or 6 years ago. Its gotten huge since he sang it at the award show. Good movie. Great song. R.I.P. TK
That's correct my dear. Toby and Clint were on the same golf team during a fund raising event. Clint asked Toby to think of a song to go along with his movie "The Mule." At 71 years old and suffering from agent Orange, I have great respect for this particular tune. RIP Big Dog 😢@violamcgee4091
I watched Toby perform this song on the country music award show and was in awe of his performance. What a fitting song for you today Toby. Your music will live on forever in our hearts. May you rest in peace....
I'm 42 and my Dad passed away in 2016 when I was 35. I also lost an important relationship the same year and my Mom in 2019 when I was 38. This song captures an incredible vibe. I appreciate it because it reminds me of my Dad and I know had he lived long enough he would have loved it. I also appreciate it because of the perspective it gives towards life. Some days it's hard to get motivated, hard to see positivity in the world, and some days I feel like I'm running out of time. But this song reminds me a) that Clint Eastwood is now 93, and b) to use the time I have rather than worrying about running out. Beautiful song.
Yes it made me cry. Not ashamed to say it. Toby took 6 words from Clint and turned it into an incredible song done in the most simplistic way and yet says so much . Great tribute to Clint....personifies him to the letter. YOU THE MAN TOBY!
Super song. I am from India, Oh Clint Eastwood, Fistful of Dollars, what looks he had, men love him, women adore him, what a cool cool guy. Tom Cruise or DeCaprio look tinny in comparison
@@arvindkala5191 Especially since he never had a temper. Just a growl. And a smile. That smile could stop wars. God bless that treasure. He will be missed and leave a gash in everyone's hearts. Not only because of his unforgettable characters, but because of his love for people. My all-time favorite movie of his will always be Gran Torino. Where we saw a war-weathered, curmudgeon shell of a man have life breathed back into him when he met his new neighbors, and gave his life and his beloved car to them. That is growth pure and simple. God knew *EXACTLY* what he was doing when he gave us Clint Eastwood. And I couldn't be more thankful. God bless you Clint Eastwood. May your future shine bright and may God and his angels sing your welcome to Heaven's gates when the time comes.
Don't let the old man in, I wanna leave this alone Can't leave it up to him, he's knocking on my door And I knew all of my life, that someday it would end Get up and go outside, don't let the old man in Many moons I have lived My body's weathered and worn Ask yourself how old you'd be If you didn't know the day you were born Try to love on your wife And stay close to your friends Toast each sundown with wine Don't let the old man in Many moons I have lived My body's weathered and worn Ask yourself how old you'd be If you didn't know the day you were born When he rides up on his horse And you feel that cold bitter wind Look out your window and smile Don't let the old man in Look out your window and smile Don't let the old man in
Me and my Dad have never had an easy or close relationship, especially when I became an adult. We didn't speak for years and 2 years ago right before Christmas I got a call that he was in the hospital after having 2 strokes and 4 seizures. My stepmom said that he wanted me there at the hospital with him and after 40 plus years of struggle, we let everything go. He survived that time, but last June his doctor at the VA said that they felt the strokes did more damage than they had thought and that my Dad was declining rapidly with his cognitive abilities and other things. I have always been a Toby Keith fan, but I hadn't heard this song yet. My husband came home from work the day Toby passed, and told me to listen to this song. It instantly reminded me of my Dad and I bawled my eyes out. On one of my Dad's good days, when I called him to check on him I played this for him. His response? Every word of this is true, please always tell my grandsons that. Every time I hear this now, I instantly think about my Dad and I cry both happy and sad tears. Thank you, Toby. This song made me finally understand my Dad after 44 years of trying. I'm grateful for you and your talents, thank you for sharing them with the world. Rest easy, Cowboy!!!
WOW! Goosebumps! 'Many moons I have lived. My body's weathered and worn. Ask yourself how would you be if you didn't know the day you were born'.... True story. A true, sad story that many a man have felt and said. This reminds me so much of my Daddy. I miss him so. But the man who lived inside of him died years before he left my side and was granted his angel wings. He was merely a shell of the man he once was. It grew harder and harder for him to accept that he no longer could do the things he loved. As I sat next to him, I watched him die in spirit and soul a little more every day. What I wouldn't have given to heal him and restore his youthfulness... I miss you Daddy❤ Thank you Toby for giving us this beautiful song as a reminder❤
Scott M God bless you Scott and your beautiful words. I've been blessed beyond anything I've ever deserved. But have always lived a life he and I could both be proud of. He raised me through half my life solo... And now from that very same home I raise my little men with the same love, devotion and dedication he gave me. I can't imagine a world without this man. It's coming up on my second Christmas without Daddy. I still cry daily, but you said it best... My peace is found in 42 years of bittersweet, beautiful memories. God Bless you Scott and Merry Christmas.
@@lynmarie1786 thank you for your kind words.. I hope time heals your loss, and that it will ease the pain that comes with it. God bless you and yours.. Merry Christmas, from someone who has walked in your shoes.
Lyn Marie Beautifully written. The same with my Dad who left us in 1987. He lived a hard life in terms of physical labor. He lost his right hand when I was twelve and improvised, over came and adapted. When the Cancer struck he fought so hard to not let the monster disease in. But this monster of a disease broke the door down. This song is stunningly beautiful.
When I heard him perform this live, there wasn't a dry eye in that concert hall, loosing so many loved ones, now me dealing with my on life threatening illness, it scares the hell outta me! RIP Toby Keith
This will always be his song,no matter who sings it toby will always and forever be this songs one and only master, miss you Big man,may God always keep you
I worked with my Dad in the Pennsylvania Blue stone quarry mining since I was a kid and my Dad was 89 working with me in the stone quarry, im 54 years old now, im not letting the old man in.
My hope is that everyone hears this song, and holds their loved ones close. Life is too short. I pictured myself in Toby's position.....and it broke me. RIP American Badass! I'll meet you someday in the presence of our Lord. I'm hoping we can raise a red solo cup together 😢
Toby was a great American who loved his country and sang to us about loving our family ,friends but reminded us the love for our country. He inspired us everything he sang....He will be missed . Heaven has gained an Angel.
This song made me think how blessed I am to be here and the battles I've endured THANKS TO MY LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. 🙏 THANK YOU FATHER FOR ALWAYS LOVING ME AND WALKING WITH ME. THE BEST FATHER A SON COULD EVER DREAM OF HAVING .❤
All of the sudden, the trivial things I worry about every day don't even matter after listening to this. Thank you Toby for sharing your music with us all these years. I hope and pray for healing in your body. Don't let that old man in! God bless you brother.
RIP Toby. Thank you for your message just before you Let the Old Man in. I will certainly continue to listen to your music. At least you are now at peace and free from suffering. You will not be forgotten.
Toby I just wanted to say thank you for showing us what it truly means to wake up everyday with one goal and one goal only and that was serving Jesus. What you did for our troops and the music you left us with was the icing on the cake. Go rest high up on that mountain toby thank you for showing us what a real American patriot looks like ❤️🤍💙🙏
My grandpa was in the 81st airborne as a ranger. He jumped out of planes as his duty to serve his people. But at home, when I visited him, he was the same way as Clint. And so is my dad. He keeps saying "I'm getting old." But he doesn't let that stop him. I don't know how he does it. It's amazing! He works security night shifts now. Sure he's not a cop but he doesn't buckle under the weight of the badge. He does everything in his power to keep me fed, warm, happy and safe. We have our spats. But what family doesn't? It's part of life. I love you daddy. And I always will. Don't let the old man in.
A great philosophy as you grow older. A great song and video by Toby inspired by Clint. Thanks Toby. I'll be 77 this year, a Vietnam vet and still very active, although with a bruised, beat up and worn out body. I still hunt and fish, inshore and offshore with no plans to let the old man in anytime soon. He'll have to break in! Not ashamed to say it made me cry. I want this song and video played at my funeral.
I’m 71. I survived Vietnam at 20. I’m still fighting the monsters I brought home with me. I’m doing my best to keep the door locked and the old man out. Some days it’s hard.
That was a beautiful song. I cried. I hope you get an Oscar for the song. That is such a beautiful song. And only Toby Keith sing that way. I'm your loving fan

This song reminds me of my Daddy. He was in the Air Force for 20 years (Vietnam Vet), filled many shoes during his 14 years as a Law Enforcement Officer, was a Master Carpenter, and Loved Selflessly and Unconditionally. If I was given a choice between $10 million or ten more minutes with my Daddy; I would take the 10 minutes in a heartbeat! I miss him so very much!! What a beautiful beautiful song.
My Dad passed away in 2022 . I loved him so much . He loved Watching Clint Eastwood westerns . So now every time I see a western I think of my daddy . He had a military funeral and he was in uniform and looked so peaceful. Rest In Peace Daddy !
Thank you Toby and God bless your soul. I finally really listened to this song and realize I've let the old woman hang around my door-- and I'm only 70! I won't let her in. I have lots of life left to live. ❤
I heard this song for the first time today after hearing he had passed on my way to an on campus clinical where my professors played it was a tribute to him. This is an amazing song and yes, I did cry a little. RIP Toby your songs have touched many lives, thanks for some fun ones and good memories with good songs.
when I was a baby I would cry and the only one who could calm me down was Toby Keith his music helped a lot through life the good times and the hard thank you for everything Toby and his family
The problem is whose gonna fill their shoes now. Toby Keith is a 90's era country artist with continued success well into the 2000's. But things have drastically changed. Sure, Chris Stapleton is the best-selling country artist for three years running, but he's an anomaly in the country music market. The mainstream -- i.e., Nashville's industry elites on Music Row -- is populated by the likes of Kane Brown, Kelsea Ballerini, Sam Hunt, Walker Hayes, Florida Georgia Shit, and the latest pop incarnation of Keith Urban, just to name a few. If things don't change at this level, then the Opry and the Hall of Fame are going to irretrievably forsake the proud history of true country music.
@@rockpaperscissors82 Point well taken...however, I tend to differ with your comment, "If things don't change at this level, then the Opry and the Hall of Fame are going to irretrievably forsake the proud history of true country music." The 'proud history of true country music' will always be just that. And since it's inception, each generation comes up with it's on version or twist, because it wants it's on identity...just like each generation before it. For example...I recently turned 76, so my generation grew up with the early days of rock'n roll. I still prefer the songs of those days, but doesn't mean I don't like, not all, but some, of today's music...such as ("Millionaire" by Chris Stapleton (Country))...("How Long" by Charlie Puth (pop))...and ("Calling You" by Steve Oliver (Smooth Jazz), and ("Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" by Will Smith (Rap/Hip Hop)), just to mention a few. So I encourage each and everyone reading this to hold on to the music of your generation, but welcome and listen to some of what the current generation is listening to. Yes, you probably will not like a lot of it, but once in a while, bet you just might hear something you do like.
I'm 36 and still keep up with what's happening in mainstream music. Yes, each generation will be biased toward its own era. I grew-up with 90's country and 90's alt-rock, and I'm definitely inclined toward that era. But even when I was a kid, I loved to explore what came before. I had a Led Zeppelin poster in my bedroom. But what's happening now in mainstream country music is pathetic and simply Nashville's pursuit of a monogenre, by which Nashville and not NYC/LA benefits. I like Jon Pardi, Eric Church, Luke Combs, Midland, and a few others in the mainstream -- and obviously Chris Stapleton -- but the rest is garbage. The lyrics repeat the same cliches and lack any meaningful narrative. Check out Grady Smith's video for "This beat is killing country music." It's a brilliant video and has over 2 million views already. He gets it.
The old man has finally tapped you on the shoulder and said its time my friend. It's time. Just look out the window and smile. RIP Toby Keith 1961-2024 ❤

Thank you for your service!!

Good night

On this Veterans Day, it is hard to imagine the bravery, determination and sacrifice this generation showed. Look at the young men of today , the indoctrination in the schools, the bias of the media to shame anyone who stands for our nation. Don’t Let The Old Man In
The song was written by Toby Keith after spending some time with 88-year-old actor-director-filmmaker, Clint Eastwood.

I Love You Daddy ❤❤❤ May you and all the departed loved ones Rest in Heavenly Peace 😇🥰😇
Your pops is listening...
He did hear it within ,you threw your hearing and the vision u see... he's part of u bro......remember that
Do not go gentle into that good night
Dylan Thomas - 1914-1953
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
@@fzr1000981 I couldn't agree with you more. One comfort I felt as I held my Dad's hand as he passed away is that he was prepared to meet the Father.
Thank you!
Yes, something we all need to strive for.
Thank you for your service.

Amen brother. Just lost my 91 year old friend, Marine corp. Major Lou O’Neil. Lived an amazing life. And told me about this song before he moved on. I may just read this at his memorial. So true. Hope you’re still ok.

This song hits so much harder now that Toby's gone. RIP, Toby. Thank you for the music. We'll cherish it forever! 😢😢😢😢
And thank you Clint Eastwood for inspiring him to write this song. You are 90+ now!
As someone who has cancer this song speaks volumes to me, so if you going through something, keep raking and digging and cowboy up
Some said I was hopeless
... tangled in the night
Strong hearts just keep going
That is why I'm still standing here today
… Come together
Raise up your voices
This time my song of love and life won't go away
I'll sing forever
Here in the sunshine
I've lived to see the sun break through the storm
And I'm so glad I'm standing here today
It will be a huge loss when we lose Mr Eastwood, IMO the last of the old time tough guys. I love him so much & nothing better then listening to Toby Keith sing but it sure made me see Mr Eastwood's mortality on screen.
Next time someone says the phrase "toxic masculinity," maybe we should try saying, "I, too, have a two-word summary of that situation: Clint Eastwood."
Clint Eastwood IS STILL ALIVE
Harley Lover -well said.
I don't think Clint Eastwood's ever going to die just out of spite is going to be one of those people whose going to live like 110 just because he can
Yep, think Charles Bronson is gone too..as well as John Wayne. We need some more inspirational role models for our up and coming generations....
This is not only a song for those who have many years in their bodies, it is for those who feel old even if their bodies have no wrinkles.
Sooo true
I'm 69 years young, and in June, I had a quad bypass surgery. I lost 3 months this year, and I'm still vertical and now im the old manl
May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Rest in heavenly peace Toby Keith. Thank you for your music being part of my life for 31 years ❤
First time hearing this and full of tears as it’s 2 days after Toby has went home but I have had huge issues turning 50 which was last year and now I feel ashamed.
Me too.
This Song Is So Sad But In Reality It Expresses How Life Really Is. RIP TOBY
I watched Toby perform this song on the country music award show and was in awe of his performance. What a fitting song for you today Toby. Your music will live on forever in our hearts. May you rest in peace....
So very saddened by his passing! He was my favorite modern country singers & I always wanted to see him live😢
Well said. We can sleep when we are dead. You lost both parents at an early age. I know it changed everything especially holidays.

Don't let the old man in,
I wanna leave this alone
Can't leave it up to him,
he's knocking on my door
And I knew all of my life,
that someday it would end
Get up and go outside,
don't let the old man in
Many moons I have lived
My body's weathered and worn
Ask yourself how old you'd be
If you didn't know the day you were born
Try to love on your wife
And stay close to your friends
Toast each sundown with wine
Don't let the old man in
Many moons I have lived
My body's weathered and worn
Ask yourself how old you'd be
If you didn't know the day you were born
When he rides up on his horse
And you feel that cold bitter wind
Look out your window and smile Don't let the old man in
Look out your window and smile
Don't let the old man in
Congratulations, Elon. The best to you on your path to not let the old man in...

Listen carefully -- it's I want to live me some more, not I wanna leave this alone.

I´m brazilian and I`m 68 years old. I´m not ashamed to say that just hearing this song tears run down.
CÓMO UN MEXICANO QUÉ SOY LE DIGO, NO SE ME RAJE NI UN PELO, PURO PARA ADELANTE, HAY QUÉ HECHAR TODA LA CARNE AL AZADOR, SALUDOS Y BENDICIONES.
SOY UNA PERSONA DE 62 AÑOS DE EDAD.
I'm 29 and I'm crying with you brother
R.I.P. Mr. Toby Keith you will be deeply missed.
WOW!
Beautiful tribute to your father.. Thank God for the time you had with him. I hope you find peace in those memories.
Your father lives on in 'your little men' and his teachings to you, will become their legacy. I hope for you all, that Christmas will bring cherished memories, and time of peaceful reflection.
Scott M bless your heart and a Merry Christmas to you as well.
When I heard him perform this live, there wasn't a dry eye in that concert hall, loosing so many loved ones, now me dealing with my on life threatening illness, it scares the hell outta me! RIP Toby Keith

Toby was a great American who loved his country and sang to us about loving our family ,friends but reminded us the love for our country. He inspired us everything he sang....He will be missed . Heaven has gained an Angel.

This song reminds me of my Daddy. He was in the Air Force for 20 years (Vietnam Vet), filled many shoes during his 14 years as a Law Enforcement Officer, was a Master Carpenter, and Loved Selflessly and Unconditionally. When George Jones sung about whose gonna fill their shoes...this is what he was wanting
Good Guy Ty I agree... This is what the ole' opossum was saying, most definitely many, many moons ago❤
YES
He gets it.
