@EasyPeasy gyeon is indeed good stuff. Slightly expensive but very good compared to the cleaning product we buy in bulk for cleaning cars at the dealership
I just cleaned my alcantara steering wheel for the first time. The car is 7 mo old with 6300 miles, and the steering wheel was definitely due a clean. It was super easy and took maybe 20 minutes. No big deal. I wouldn’t mind doing it every other month - washing the car is much more of a hassle. So for me, alcantara is a definite yes in a sports car.
Alcantara was a luxury detail I first experienced through an S class Mercedes, and I thought it was so slick and I thought, just maybe, it made the car drive smoother! 😂 I would love it on a weekend driver 👌🏼
I have alcantara on the sides of my steering wheel. I like it alot, because the alcantara parts doesn't get cold during the winter, so i don't have to hold my hands on the cold leather lol
I cleaned an SHO with alcantara, the guy gave up and put a cover on it. When I presented the car sans wheel cover so he could check out the wheel he was so surprised and happy to have it back in action.
I considered it when I bought my last vehicle, but glad I went with standard, smooth leather seats. I’m a bit OCD and having to keep the nap of alcantara brushed in the same direction would be a pain. Every time I sat in it, I’d see an outline of the seams of my jeans. 😂
Definitely a love-hate relationship. Love the look and feel, hate the maintenance. Had it on my CTS-V coupe. Loved it initially until it became clear that cleaning was a pain……
Alcantara… Definitely yes! Once you have it, there is no going back. I clean my wheel and shifter quarterly. And every now and then I pick that french fry up off the floor 😏
That's 🧢 and you know it, i had alcantara seats and an aftermarket steering wheel and it feelt gross after a week, my best friend has a AMG GT with the alcantara steering wheel and he also hates it, everyone i know that has alcantara says the same
I truly like it! okay, I dunno about the steering wheel but my seats are all Alcantara and it's the most durable I ever came across. looks still good even after the car starts falling apart. surprisingly easy to clean, too. wouldn't want anything else anymore!
I do love Alcântara. My steering wheel is regular leather but my shift boot and knob are both Alcântara along with my headliner. And my e brake boot is made of it also. The only thing I touch is the shift knob but I clean all of it once a week and It still looks new in a 2004 car. I came close to getting an Alcântara wheel, but I’m glad I did. Also I don’t have to use the shifter very much because I have a SMG. Transmission in my car and I can charge gears from the steering wheel.
Leather for sure. If you want grip, just put on a pair of gloves. The vast majority of Alcantara that I see looks terrible because owners don’t take care of it. Even in the high end cars.
for a track car it's fine but if you're daily driving your GT3/GT4/GT4rs, I'd go leather. Alcantara is cool and feels great but lets be honest, leather is a perfectly reasonable option even for a sportscar
With the prices now up to 85k at list 89k otr, I would be interested to find out what the emira is like compared to a used evora 400. Yes the evora will have a cheaper feeing more dated interior but used evora 400s can be had now from around 50k so I think it’s an interesting point to mull on. Either way I’ll be having one or the other at some point
My fibers are bunched up, elongated, and a bit stiff. Had a few passes with sonax. Looking for solutions here. Will your cleaner work or do I need to do something like shave the fibers down at this point? Help!
I love alcantara but didn’t want the pain of so regular care so I got the central part of the wheel trimmed in it and left the rest leather to kind of enjoy both 👍
Any time u use anything with a non neutral ph u need to neutralize it after meaning extract the solution then use something with a neutral ph like water then extract again. My experience is coming from being in the janitorial industry I sell chemicals including fabric detergents degreasers and stain removers, family has been in the industry over 40 years
Had it on my hot hatch and I was cleaning it every weekend. If I didn’t, it made my hands feel tacky and smelt. Maybe just my hands but I’m much happier to have leather back.
Some sort of hydrating leather detail cleaner. Autozone or your local auto store should carry something similar to what you’re looking for. If you have greasy hands from eating working etc make sure you wipe the wheel down regularly or the oils from your hands will deteriorate the leather and cause it to fade/peel. 👍
Alcantara looks good and helps with the wheel to not slip out of your hands. But it sure does get GROSS AF! So I would rather leather. Easier to keep clean and it does look a lot better too! I think Alcantara can make a car look really cheap depending.
not a fan of Alcantara on high touched areas but you know what i hate more? fabric seats. almost every new car coming out toyota honda etc have fabric seats with no option to upgrade to leather. fabric absorbs sweat stains etc and over time dirt travels deep into the fibres. kinda like owning a mattress but no sheets.
Get a custom cover. They make ones that look oem and fit like a glove and are like half the cost or less of what the factory trim level would have been to upgrade if there had been the option originally. Plus you can change them out if you want a different look.
No. I have to touch them all the time when I shoot AMG’s and I’m always disgusted by the grime on them. I cannot even begin to tell you what the cars people buy look like before they buy them- because if I did, you’d never buy anything but a new car. I literally have to clean all of my equipment, take off all of my clothes and take a shower before I’ll touch anything in my house- and this is AFTER they’ve been detailed.
I had an AMG and absolutely despised the alcantara steering wheel. What idiot thought that material made sense for a steering wheel? Give me perforated leather any day.
Well ladies and gentlemen. Your glovebox is not just for your insurance cards, receipts, and instruction manuals. Get some nice driving gloves and enjoy your sports car
I love alcantara when it’s in someone else’s car
😂😂😂😂
My friends get so jealous of how clean I keep my interior parts. All thanks to ammo too. Plus wearing my gloves!
What car? What state?
@@Fee.1 Cali, 1le 5th gen Camaro alcantara on steering wheel, dash, shiftboot, and red leather interior.

@@TheNigaHigaFan4Ever Yeah for sure, it ain't cheap. And kind of 'hard' to find a shop that sells it around here.
Love it. Have it in several spots in my car but the only main touch point is the wheel and I do daily it 😂

Driving gloves.... Do love the look and feel of Alcantara.
my sim has an alcantara wheel thanks for the tips 😂
My sim also has alcantara- it has convinced me to never own a car with an alcantara wheel
I have alcantara on the sides of my steering wheel. I like it alot, because the alcantara parts doesn't get cold during the winter, so i don't have to hold my hands on the cold leather lol

Driving gloves... the end! : )
PREACH.
Then what's the point of having Alcantara? It's there to feel nice in the hand.
@@helloworld6160it looks nice and then if you want to feel it once in a while without the gloves it’s there.
Great tips on how to clean them properly
I had an alcantara steering wheel in my GT500. It felt awesome, but man it was a pain. I’m good with leather these days
S550? Bro I wish I could have gotten leather, I hate alcantera if you don't have gloves

I truly like it! okay, I dunno about the steering wheel but my seats are all Alcantara and it's the most durable I ever came across. looks still good even after the car starts falling apart. surprisingly easy to clean, too. wouldn't want anything else anymore!
Love my alcantara+leather interior.
Love ‘em ❤
Yes
i have alcantara at the top and bottom where i barely touch, perforated leather on the sides. love it
Mine is the opposite, I only drive with my hand on 6 or 12 lol

I love it and only have it on a non-daily driver❤
My zhp has a Alcantara wheel. I like it but I keep at it so no chance of it getting bad
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love it on the headliner but not the wheel.
As an owner of a Citroen C1 my opinion is that alcantara is great.
i know its like ur steering wheel is a luxurious velvety pillow of love that loves u back
Wouldn't know. Never saw one until this video.
I like the steering wheel on my 02 Silverado
for a track car it's fine but if you're daily driving your GT3/GT4/GT4rs, I'd go leather. Alcantara is cool and feels great but lets be honest, leather is a perfectly reasonable option even for a sportscar
Its a marketing thing. There’s certain stuff they put in these cars that literally no one asks for
Great video! I find that Alcantara is scary to car daily owners. They think it's less durable than leather. They don't know it can be maintained.
With the prices now up to 85k at list 89k otr, I would be interested to find out what the emira is like compared to a used evora 400. Had it on my steering wheel because it looks nice but because of the maintenance i switched over to carbon fiber after a year.
Love Alcantara but I don't have any and don't want it because so hard to keep it clean. 😢
What's a good way to clean leather steering wheels
alcantara is nice.
But can I use Distilled water to lift the fibers? As a non abrasive way
What cleaner is best for this?
No bc it’s always put on major contact areas rather than an accent on top or bottom of steering wheel
Can i use compressed air instead of this special thingy tool?
My fibers are bunched up, elongated, and a bit stiff. Had a few passes with sonax. Looking for solutions here.
Will your cleaner work or do I need to do something like shave the fibers down at this point?

I hate alcantara in heavy touch points, but in non-common touch points, it's fine.

my friend has one in his race car that he tracks a couple times a year and it already looks horrible..
What AMMO product would you use? My daughter spilled hot chocolate on my perforated Alcantara seats. 😢
I had it on my SL63, I thought it was a pain, always looked dirty.
I have an Alcantara wheel on my track car and it’s a pain in the butt! 😂
Thanks for the heads up on how to improve it 👍🏻
Alcantara was designed for drivers who don't like cleaning their cars. This doesn't matter with Alcantara - because it always looks dirty anyway
Love my alcantra steering wheel 🔥
Looks amazing, but hate the work😂 so on a daily leather for sure!
Yes I like the steering wheel but didn’t realize it needed special
Cleaning. Ugh
Cowboy leather and call it good and easy to maintain 😎
"Slightly higher than neutral pH... so 10 or 11" - Yeah that's not slightly, it's caustic soda high.
What do you recommend for cleaning leather steering wheels?
Some sort of hydrating leather detail cleaner. Autozone or your local auto store should carry something similar to what you’re looking for. If you have greasy hands from eating working etc make sure you wipe the wheel down regularly or the oils from your hands will deteriorate the leather and cause it to fade/peel. 👍

I prefer leather or wood steering
If you keep it clean on a regular basis then yes it’s not bad to have, but leather is way easier to keep looking great.
I really don’t like the alcantara on my Mercedes steering wheel. I vastly preferred the perforated leather on my Audi.
Leather or a classic wooden Nardi steering wheel 😃 I have a 1986 5 series bmw so the wood wheel looks ok lol
Never had one so no dog in this hunt
I'd have to wear gloves to drive it!
1000 grit sandpaper can bring life back to hopelessly matted alcantera.
"slightly higher" lol, it's just 1000 to 10000 times more basic than neutral
What brush is that
He sells it on his site under interior tools

Used and smooth alcantera looks better in my opinion
Alcantara is great for racing but I would take leather for normal driving
I don’t care for Alcantara, it’s the main fabric in my Scat Pack Seats. I think a steering wheel wouldn’t make me happy
No. I have to touch them all the time when I shoot AMG’s and I’m always disgusted by the grime on them.
I cannot even begin to tell you what the cars people buy look like before they buy them- because if I did, you’d never buy anything but a new car.

Alcántara does not hold up very well in hot Summers where the car is exposed to the blazing Sun. It needs to be cleaned and preserved very well.
Good on a race track if you wear fire proof nomex gloves - helps them stick together.
Daily driver? Heck no.
I had an AMG and absolutely despised the alcantara steering wheel. What idiot thought that material made sense for a steering wheel? Give me perforated leather any day.
I wear driving gloves on alcantara .
Scotchgard.
Wearing driving gloves with an alcatara steering wheel is like arguing on the internet. Completely pointless.
Alcantara on accent pieces (door panels, dash, and other trim.) I would not want a steering wheel with it.
You know pH is logarithmic right? 10 or 11 is a big jump from normal cleaners
Not on the daily
Only on the track or fun day car
Alcantara is just synthetic suede so id rather have real leather on there
Good ole c63 let me know if anyone here wants one mine is for sale 2012 coupe clean title 30k miles😊
You mean suede?
No, he said what he meant
I love it , but not on the seats and the wheel.
Yes!! But sadly gloves required
We can wear gloves. Like how drivers for rich people do. Hehe
Yes if u like to wear groves to drive ur car
