Super Helpful Video. My SHO is the First car I've ever owned that has the Alcantara Steering wheel. I had no idea how to clean or maintain it....Now I Do. Thank You !
I have an Alcantara wheel in my 2021 Civic Type R. I love the feel . Sure it takes a little more upkeep than a leather one. But I don't mind that extra work.
Yeah i admit it’s quite a bit more work and sometimes I’m disappointed with how much. I wear gloves in the Porsche so I don’t have to worry about it but the Caddy is the daily it definitely shows the wear
Man I can’t wait!!! I ordered the wheel for my ats and bought the shift boot/knob off eBay for cheap. Open box ats v 75 shipped! I paused 225 for the wheel and 50 for installation. It’s on back order though.
@Jet Fuel only you know what works best for cleaning steering wheels, is Baby wipes, breaks oils down and doesn't ruin fabric or leather, think about it it has to be soft enough for baby skin and not be harsh on baby skin.
Isn't the dust micro deteriorated suede particles caused by hand oils, etc.? I don't see dust come off by seats when brushing? So does brushing cause more rapid wear of the steering wheel suede?
My '14 Vsport doesn't have the steering wheel alcantara. I might buy one if I can source a 2016 or newer. Someone hit me up with a PN of you feel like it.
They are from Chrome Industries - they make street cycling apparel. They have been great but thinking of switching to leather with red stitching to match the interior. chromeindustries.com/products/cycling-gloves-2-0
Great video! Do you have any suggestions for those of us with standard leather Cadillac steering wheels that are starting to look “shiny” even after cleaning with leather cleaner?
Unfortunately no, leather does get polished out by your hands. However there are companies that do aftermarket leather on your wheel. For example a lot of people have been getting those new custom carbon fiber wheels. I bet that same company would be willing to put new leather on your wheel for you.
Yes. Consider it to be like carpet though. Stains will spread in lighter colors more obviously. So make sure you are dabbing up as much as possible before spreading.
How did you get on with the Dr Beasley's? Also what kind of maintenance cleaning and how often with the protection applied? I'm thinking of a good brushing once a week to remove dust
Dry as wet sand will possibly muddy it up. You want to be able to brush out any sand paper residue. Please do it verily and use a higher grit … more like 1500-2000. I think I said 800 in the video.
@@JetFuelOnly I have never had an alcantara wheel before now. So I didn’t want to give it so much love and care that I kill it. :) I do 4-6 weeks. So that makes be feel I am on the right track. Thank you!
Hey love your videos. I bought tons of stuff on savagecadillac because of you. Can you please tell me where to get performance exhaust for 2014 v3, 2.0 cts? I've been looking everywhere but still not sure which one would work since there isn't many options for my car
When no one makes a setup you need to have a shop do one for you. Get bigger piping for flow or different muffler for sound. However, unless you are making extra power and tuned it probably wont do much for performance. So if it’s sound you want get a new muffler.
Just swapped out the leather wheel on my gti for alcantara. How often should you use the Sonax product? I was told to just use a damp microfiber followed by a dry microfiber and to not use product
You can foam a microfiber and rub it in. Or just foam the Alcantara. I don’t see an issue with that. Just imagine your are cleaning a carpet. Some good dabbing is good. But please brush and vacuum first so you don’t make “mud”
@@JetFuelOnly when they’re brand new the alcantara is almost pure black. It’s actually the same shade or darker than the leather on steering wheels that are half leather half alcantara. It after a while the alcantara turns a lighter gray. And looks bad next to the leather portion. and I found that cleaning it only made it lighter because I believe you’re just pulling out the dye. It’s very noticeable on the mercedes steering wheels with both leather and alcantara. I noticed it in my 911 gt3 as well. It still turned light even though I babied it, wore gloves and put few miles on it.
This video makes me glad that I don't have a micro suede steering wheel and shifter. But this video will help me with the rest of my interior. Thanks!
Super clear and concise info (as usual), straight and to the point. Thanks again!! 👍🏼
I just got a 2015 premium vsport and your channel has been a Godsend. Your videos are very well done and informative Thank you..
Thanks!

Tip for the next time: cover the piano black gloss trim with a covering tape to prevent scratches.
Thank you for posting this informative video. Will surely come in handy for when the Blackwing arrives,
Thanks for this video! I will be trying this all out on my Challenge Stradale interior.

Gotta say, you're video is awesome but it made me really glad I got a leather steering wheel in my GT4! 🤣
I know. It’s got it’s advantages but you do need to work to keep it in shape
More work than leather but the touch of the fabric is worth it, thank you for the video :D

I concur the Sonax works well. This material is just not daily friendly unfortunately 😏

I would say no, most of the dust is likely skin cells like all the other dust in your car.
@JetFuel can you please repost the video on the steering wheel noise you had in the CTS.
I’m not sure what you mean. I never had a steering wheel noise.
My bad, I thought you posted something like that once Mr. JetFuel. I get this odd sound when I turn the steering wheel at times.

you don't want alcantara. if you have leather keep it. much easier to take care of and lasts much longer. Alcantara is not a nice fabric.
thanks for the indepth video! Btw what brand of gloves do you use? Asking for a friend ;)

can you clean a beige or light colored Alcantara the same way?
Yes. Consider it to be like carpet though. Stains will spread in lighter colors more obviously. So make sure you are dabbing up as much as possible before spreading.

Yes the more you brush it the better. The Dr. B’s I haven’t see a solid difference in protection.
@@JetFuelOnly that's a shame, I had high hopes for it, any discernible reduction in the amount of oils, sweat, etc. the fabric absorbs, or nothing?
@SilverShamrock71 didn’t notice a difference myself.

@Kynetguy definitely at least brush it out and wipe with a lightly damp microfiber. Don’t need to do full process unless you see it needed

I’ve watched dozens of these alcantara cleaning videos and no one ever addresses how to get the alcantara back to its original black color
I have not noticed a change in color for mine. It’s always been gray, same on the Porsche. For any fabric that’s lost color, usually dye is needed.

I knew mine was bad when I got the car, just not how bad. Normal people probably would have thought it was just black leather.
Can I use a toothbrush
Yes but it will take longer and the bristles are a bit soft
Is alcatara cheaper this is a pain in rear I dont want this in my car I like regular leather who the genius who decided put this in cars
I’m that guy who alway drives with gloves on 😆. I don’t want my finger nails to scratch anything in my new 2022 Cayman GTS interior!
Love your YT handle
always use a tiny hand vacuum cleaner when brushing otherwise you have ALL the dust INSIDE the car for days.
This is why I haven’t done this , leather is so much easier
Worst material to have in any cars. It's messy look and does not look premium at all.
The light is too bright and making your eyes cross-eyed
