You are a jewel! Thank you so much! I just bought a used machine for $60 because I'm not rich, and I was disappointed to find out how many accessories I need and how expensive they are. You just saved me!
I don't have the words to tell you how much I appreciate this!! The money that you are going to save us is more than we will ever know. Thank You, thank you, a million times over THANK YOU!!! You are amazing!!!
You're welcome! ! Crafting can be an expensive business these days but it is the only thing that has kept me sane for the last year. Here, I don't have the option to walk into a store to buy one and to buy off Amazon in Spain is ridiculously expensive for these.
Important Note! If you don't have the ability to cut the stencils in one piece because of the size, duplicate the file. Cut each piece from the left corner to past the middle triangle. Then cut the same part of the design from its right side to past the triangle, working to the left side. Repeat with the other part of the design (top or base strip). Don't make the mistake of thinking that the pattern is totally symmetrical! If you have a larger cutting mat you can cut it on that (I cut mine on the Silver Bullet Platinum) but I don't think you can get it on the 12 inch mat, even diagonally.EDIT: HERE IS A LINK TO SHORT PIECES! www.dropbox.com/sh/eaj0k72wa48z1vg/AACT3ZBqmU8n1s6hUbwsH9jWa?dl=0 EDIT - I have since made a video on the DX mats th-cam.com/video/GWvjzwLGE6s/w-d-xo.html files are there for download.
createinspain My template will fit on the scanncut mat on the diagonal with just a small corner cut off. I cut several cardstock stencils for my Dx. I made it when first released and couldn’t buy an extra mat because they didn’t have any for purchase.
Yes, I realised that but wanted to make it easy to line up - so I have added a new file link to smaller pieces that will cut completely, for those with only a 12 inch mat.
I want to thank you so much for this info. I just finished making a mat and it works! I am thrilled. I have been struggling to learn the proper method of cutting fabric for applique and in the process have ruined 2 mats. I am so happy to be able to replace them this way. Thanks again!

I ruined my brand new mat. I was searching for how to clean the heat n bond off the mat when I found your tutorial. I'm definitely going to try this!!
Elizabeth - I've been trying to respond to your comment but the reply button wasn't working.....I would recommend a DX machine if your main interest is cutting fabric. The disc type blade and holder is only for the DX machines and I hear that it is much better for fabric. I rarely cut fabric, I have done it with a normal blade but I'm not the best person to ask about that.
Well I like many here are going to say a big thank you, if I'm honest I never even thought this was possible only just picked up your video I have the newer model and I'm sure this will work just as well. I've sold on my earlier model to a friend and if you don't mind I will send her your video as she is having problems getting mats at the mo. Kind regards Paul from London UK
I have another video specific to the DX mats th-cam.com/video/GWvjzwLGE6s/w-d-xo.html By all means, share the videos, the more who know about this the better!
Using your 24" template to convert a scanning mat, I cut the triangle using black vinyl, made a square 150% bigger and cut that with white vinyl, and stuck that over the second from left square, and then used the full template with cardstock to line up the black triangle, and it recognized it as a 12x24 cutting mat. If anyone wants to do this, arrange your cardstock in the normal spot, and then the two different vinyl below that, and line the parts up with it, and you get all the cuts in one go.
With further testing, for EVA foam, border your parts to be cut using double sided window kit tape, I'm cutting some fairly complex parts out, and it works quite well. I am doing three 4"x7" panels at a time with one sheet of 2mm thick foam, but I place the tape in between those panels, as well as the outside of them.
Wow thanks. You are amazing! So, bought 12x24 mat but doest working on my ScanNCut Dx. So the store told me to keep it ,plus money back. I was going to throw the mat, but I saw your video and my question is how to erase the marks already there on the mat ?
I have never removed the marks but if you want to give it a shot (may or may not work) I would suggest trying nail polish remover. If you use acetone, make sure to rinse off immediately as it may even eat through the plastic. Test it on the bottom of the mat first! Make sure to protect the rest of your mat while working on it. Failing that, covering the original marks with a good quality white vinyl may work.
Wonderful to finally find your video and tutorial. One question though, I'm wanting to create some vinyl decals. What do you use to make the mat tacky like the original mats, without the paper, card stock, vinyls from sticking too the mats. Any help much appreciated 🌷
Pin Flair glue is recommended in the UK, tack it over and over will work (best diluted or you will never get stuff off the mat) or a chunky Zig glue pen if that is all you can get.
I have both a Cricut and Scan n Cut 350cm---I haven't really used the Scan-n-Cut much, but I am trying, that being said, as one can tell from the age of the number, I have had it a few years. I've not even replaced the blade or the mat. I attempted to replace the mat once, but the price that I found was ridiculous. Especially when I can get 3 mats for my Cricut machine for the same price. I got the replacement mat and it wouldn't even read in my machine--stupid me cut it up. Last night I literally cut through my mat and looking at the replacement costs I'm like there has to be a way around that sticker shock. Definitely going to be trying this out
My goodness!! After nearly 6 years of owning my 600 im only just finding this. Thank you thank you thank you. Are the cut files sized already? If not, what should i size them to?
I no longer have a Brother but the cut flies were sized as they should be. If you need more help, go to the FB page for Brother by Jennifer Brodie - I gave the files to her group when I sold my machine and many have used them since.
Not sure I understand your question "on the front of the machine'. If you mean the stickiness for the mat, you can use either a chunky Zig two way glue pen or Tack it over and Over (which you can dilute a bit if you want a less sticky mat!). Just spread THINLY!
I use a cleaner for wood burner stove glass on my mats to take old gunk off - leave it on for 10 min, scrub and repeat if needed. Rinse in soapy water and then clean water. They look like new after that!
Yes it does! I have the file for the DX 24 inch DX - if the link here doesn't include it, it is under the DX mat video. It's even easier as it has fewer markings:)
@@createinspain thanks so much for this. I was about to go buy a new 30cm x 60cm as the the one I purchased with my machine years ago doesn’t “read” properly. It is the first time I’m using this long one and it says it can’t read it. Any suggestions would be be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your lovely vid!
Brilliant idea!! Thank you so much for sharing this diy for us. I have one question , you taped your image on the mat. It does not shift while cutting. How did the paper stick one the mat and did not move while cutting??
Normal cutting mats are tacky. You can do the same thing with either Pinflair stencil glue, Zig two way markers (there is a chunky one) or various dilutions (depends how sticky you want it) of Tack it Over and Over. I've not watched this video again but if I used tape it was because the mat wasn't sticky, I must have taped it well!
Thank you so much for this!!! 2 questions....Do you perhaps know the thickness of the "Rental Board" you used please? And do you by any chance know what I can use for an embossing mat, as I messed mine up on the first use.... right in the middle :(
Glad you found it helpful. It is the same thickness pretty much as the originals. It isn't board it is plastic..For an embossing mat for the SNC, I use craft foam - but I don't have the official kit, I have made my own:)
@@createinspain Thank you for coming back to me so quickly :) yes I do have a plastic, but it does feel slightly thicker than the SNC mat so I thought before i go out and buy others, perhaps you know the thickness. I would love to hear how you made your embossing mat with foam, is it sticky?
@@nancybotes5808 I have callipers so just measured both the original mat and the for sale sign.0.3mm (or 0.01in). Have a look at these th-cam.com/video/8IKu13sGiaY/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/CWqD_23CVAw/w-d-xo.html I think that should show you the embossing.
@@createinspain WOW that makes it so much easier. Thank you for this, its all new to me so still figuring it all out but you are so right... your way makes it so much easier, less fuss. Thank you so very much.
How do you cut out your triangles and squares so precise. I don't see anyway that you can trace them and then have the tiny squares and triangles matching the mat so you can make your own mat. I have watched this video several times and can't seem to figure it out. Thank you.
Thank you very much . Will look for it when shops open. One more please the cut files for the top and bottom parts . Can I find any link from your video. Thank you very much.
If you use the DX mat pattern, yes.....as long as your mat is made of a plastic of the same type. You can't put a thick mat in, the machine won't accept it.
There is a newer version of this video th-cam.com/video/T7xnKmfoRos/w-d-xo.html too. I use DILUTED Tack it Over and Over. About 50/50 solution. If you use it straight, it will be so tacky you'll spend more time trying to remove pieces than cutting them out:)
Hello again...I would like to know if in buying this Brother Scan n Cut if it has completely replaced the need to buy dies? Dies are expensive and if this machine does the job for cutting all I need for cards then I think it will be worth the buy. Looking forward to your answer and thank-you in advance!
Kathleen, I don't think I have any cards on my channel that were made with dies - maybe one to review some. It is a different way of working but gives you so much more freedom. You do need to learn how the machine works, and you MIGHT want to use different software to design in, as I do. However if you were to buy a DX model with the auto blade, I think you would be very happy. If you want to cut around stamped images, you can (without even using a computer). You can use any SVG that I have linked under my videos, or any others you find. You can cut paper, leather , card etc My honest opinion (and I am not paid by anyone) is that a DX machine would pay for itself in a very short time. For example, you would buy a box die for around 30 dollars/pounds/euros. On Sunday, I make a lovely diamond shape box, with pattern detail and my file is free....
createinspain You seem to be confirming what I think, that the machine would quickly pay for itself, as the dies that I have bought in this last year have been quite pricey. I have only been making cards for 1 year but I was searching for a lot cheaper way...otherwise it is just an expensive hobby. I manage to sell all the cards I make but that doesn’t leave much profit if one has to continually buy dies and stamps. I am thinking of the SDX 1200...it seems to be a good choice from what I see. And I am also able to design my own things (I have an I-Pad Pro for that), so I was thinking this is maybe what I am looking for. I came across your channel and I am so glad I did, it has been an eye-opener. Thank-you!
Maybe this is answered somewhere Else but what are you using for your mat material? Are you just getting plastic from somewhere and cutting it into a square? That doesn’t seem to be addressed
Hi Chris. Did you find a good source of plastic to use for this? Being in Australia, I’m having trouble finding something, perhaps something in NZ would be available in aus?
Hi great news... I asked a quested 3 months ago and now am back at trying to use the 60cm mat... does the template work for the 30 x 60 ordinary standard mat?? trying to do a large cut out... thanks so much for this. I didn't do the large mat for the CM machine because I didn't have it for long, I have a DX now. I am guessing that the reg marks are different, as they are for the usual DX mats but if you can find images of the mats for both machines, you should be able to see if they happen to be the same. Knowing Brother, probably not! I did a video more recently on the DX ones...
@@createinspain thanks for that. Is there anyone who has CM long mat who can take a photo and put it in here so I can see what it should look like please?
Hi, hope that you don't mind I have shared link to this video with FB Scanncut group, everyone with the CM series is very excited by it, although all are asking about the thickness of the sign, I am sure in the past both of us have used differing plastic with our silver bullets, but cannot now remember what they were. thanks again - this may stir me to making similar for the DX series

@@lynnmcfarlin6261 You're welcome
Wonderful to finally find your video and tutorial. One question though, I'm wanting to create some vinyl decals. What do you use to make the mat tacky like the original mats, without the paper, card stock, vinyls from sticking too the mats. Any help much appreciated 🌷
Pin Flair glue is recommended in the UK, tack it over and over will work (best diluted or you will never get stuff off the mat) or a chunky Zig glue pen if that is all you can get.
You're a Genius!!!!!
See th-cam.com/video/GWvjzwLGE6s/w-d-xo.html
The dots you left off are code for the month and year of manufacture.
Yes, I found that out shortly after I made the video:)
I'd love to know how you made the templates for the arrows.
Arrows are only triangles with a stalk!
Definitely going to be trying this out
Yup. If the mats were a sensible price, these videos would be nowhere near as popular as they are!
Fantastic
Thanks, glad to make you happy!
Muchísimas gracias por compartir
Awesome
My goodness!!
After nearly 6 years of owning my 600 im only just finding this.
Thank you thank you thank you.
Are the cut files sized already?
If not, what should i size them to?
I no longer have a Brother but the cut flies were sized as they should be. If you need more help, go to the FB page for Brother by Jennifer Brodie - I gave the files to her group when I sold my machine and many have used them since.
what do you use for stickiness on the front of the machine. I don't remember it being mentioned. thanks for your top tip.
Not sure I understand your question "on the front of the machine'. If you mean the stickiness for the mat, you can use either a chunky Zig two way glue pen or Tack it over and Over (which you can dilute a bit if you want a less sticky mat!). Just spread THINLY!
Thank you so much for this.
You are so welcome!
Brilliant
Glad you like it. There is another video I re uploaded recently with the DX mats as well.
fabulous this is brilliant, I restick my mats but there's a lot of grim stuck underneath the glue, looks terrible
I use a cleaner for wood burner stove glass on my mats to take old gunk off - leave it on for 10 min, scrub and repeat if needed. Rinse in soapy water and then clean water. They look like new after that!
@@createinspain i did use glue remover, but with cats that hair just gets everywhere.. I gave up 😂
Does it work with those cheap compatible cricut mats? They aren't white usually, does it change anything?
Won't work.
Wow thank you for sharing this file and all of your how to videos
You are so welcome! Please share the video with your crafty friends!
This looks fantastic. Where can I find the design file please to make my own?
File linked in the information under the video
Thank you for the video, does this work for 12x24 mats as well?
Yes it does! I have the file for the DX 24 inch DX - if the link here doesn't include it, it is under the DX mat video. It's even easier as it has fewer markings:)
@@createinspain thanks so much for this. I was about to go buy a new 30cm x 60cm as the the one I purchased with my machine years ago doesn’t “read” properly. It is the first time I’m using this long one and it says it can’t read it. Any suggestions would be be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your lovely vid!
How can I get the svg for the mat? Thanks so much for doing this!
The files are in a link under the video.
Brilliant!
Thanks! I also have a video on the DX mats, inc the 24 inch one...
Hi, brilliant idea
where do I find the find to make this please
The files are in a drop box link under the video
Brilliant idea!! Thank you so much for sharing this diy for us. I have one question , you taped your image on the mat. It does not shift while cutting. How did the paper stick one the mat and did not move while cutting??
Normal cutting mats are tacky. You can do the same thing with either Pinflair stencil glue, Zig two way markers (there is a chunky one) or various dilutions (depends how sticky you want it) of Tack it Over and Over. I've not watched this video again but if I used tape it was because the mat wasn't sticky, I must have taped it well!
Fabulous video. Thank you but where can I find the files to make the markings for the mat?
In the info box here under the video!
@@nancybotes5808 no problem!
How do you cut out your triangles and squares so precise. I don't see anyway that you can trace them and then have the tiny squares and triangles matching the mat so you can make your own mat. I have watched this video several times and can't seem to figure it out. Thank you.
You don't need to do the hard work, the file is linked below ,the video I did all the work already!
Hi just found your video , great idea thank you. I can't quite catch what you said that the plastic you use for the mat.
It is a cheap for sale sign, sold all over the place here in Spain. The same sort of plastic that the original mats are made from.
Thank you very much . Will look for it when shops open. One more please the cut files for the top and bottom parts . Can I find any link from your video. Thank you very much.
thank you for the tips! Could you advise what thickness is best for a mat please? -Subbed
You need the same thickness as the Brother mats.
Thank you, kindly! 💝
You're welcome!
Thanks, great video, am going to try to save my new cm mats and cover the codes with over with Vinyl and see if that works 👍
Good luck!
Will this work with the new auto blade?
If you use the DX mat pattern, yes.....as long as your mat is made of a plastic of the same type. You can't put a thick mat in, the machine won't accept it.
@@createinspain Thanks
Thank you
How did you make the stencil?
I cut it on my cutter.
You’re amazing
Not really, I just don't like being ripped off!
Sorry for the ignorance but will this work with any scan and cut? I just got the sdx125
I did files for the SDX so as long as you choose the correct one, yes.
Will this work on my sdx 1200 as I am having problem with loading the original mats I have a cm900 which the mats load but machine won't recognise
th-cam.com/video/T7xnKmfoRos/w-d-xo.html This video has the DX mats
thank you. I just purchased 2 mats "on sale" from Amazon at just over $13.00 each.
Sorry! I would have put it up earlier but I decided to work on the file a bit more to get it just right!
@@createinspain ... I bought them a while back. But now knowing your "technique", I will remember in the future.

@@createinspain thank you, I have put in my favorites folder on YT
I have the CM-350 and my mats don't have those markings. Do you know how to make mats for that model?
I made files for both the DX AND CM models and another video on how to make them. th-cam.com/video/T7xnKmfoRos/w-d-xo.html
Hi Sandra, do you know if the 24" mat from your dropbox fit with CM900? Thank you for your tips!
I don't know what reg marks the cm 24 inch mat has but I doubt they are the same.
That is awesome! They have discontinued the model I have so I can’t find mats anywhere!!!!
Question- what do you use for your adhesive?
Thank-you!
@@Katerina-vm2ok I really like the SDX1200, and considering I have used much bigger and more expensive machines, that is quite a recommendation!
createinspain Thank-you for your help!
@@Katerina-vm2ok You're welcome
Maybe this is answered somewhere Else but what are you using for your mat material? Are you just getting plastic from somewhere and cutting it into a square? That doesn’t seem to be addressed
It is addressed, you obviously skipped through the video.
@@createinspain yup I sure did! Yard sale sign! Brilliant!
Thank you for this!! I have not been able to get the template to open. Any ideas on how to do that so I can print it out?
Download the templates and either import or open.
Do you have a template for 24x12 inch standard may for cm series.. I think the graphics on these is different. In NZ these are really expensive.
Sorry, I never bothered when I had the CM and now I only have the DX
Hi Chris. Did you find a good source of plastic to use for this? Being in Australia, I’m having trouble finding something, perhaps something in NZ would be available in aus?
I may be having a senior moment, but where do I find the fle for this hack? Thanks in advance.
Should be still in the info box...I have not taken it out :) It is a drop box link.
@@createinspain thank you.
Hi great news... I asked a quested 3 months ago and now am back at trying to use the 60cm mat... does the template work for the 30 x 60 ordinary standard mat?? trying to do a large cut out...
thanks so much for this. I was about to go buy a new 30cm x 60cm as the the one I purchased with my machine years ago doesn’t “read” properly. It is the first time I’m using this long one and it says it can’t read it. Any suggestions would be be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your lovely vid!
Don't mind in the slightest! The plastic may be a fraction heavier than the original but not much in it!

I don't actually own a scan/cut mat as my CM600 came without a mat. Can you tell me what thickness that 'for sale' sign is please? Are they easy to obtain in the UK?
0.3m'd suggest maybe the sort of stores that sell cheap things, maybe old fashioned DIY stores, the Range? On line will be dear because of postage. A local sign maker may sell you some if you know of one.
