  • Learn the methods I use to clean and restick my ScanNCut mats. Easy and inexpensive!
    PLEASE NOTE: Using a restuck mat using the method shown in your machine MAY void your warranty. If you've owned your machine for less than a year, you may want to wait to try this until after your one year warranty has expired. Also, I share these techniques to hopefully help you but you try them at your own risk. Thanks!

    Cleaning and resticking a regular tack ScanNCut mat is actually pretty easy. All you need is a sink, warm water, some mild liquid soap and a sponge to gently scrub the mat clean. If it’s too old and used to have its stick recharged with just a cleaning and air dry, you can restick it with a Zig 2 Way Glue pen. Use low tack tape to protect the non-sticky areas of the mat and then use the glue pen to cover the would-be sticky areas with a thin coat of glue. Let air dry, remove the tape and you can use the mat over and over again! Just repeat the process whenever the mat loses its stick.
    STEPS TO CLEAN AND RESTICK A SCAN N CUT MAT:
    1. Remove the protective sheet from the mat. Take it to a sink and rinse with warm water.
    2. Put some mild dish or hand soap on a regular household sponge and gently scrub the surface of the mat.
    3. When all of the gunk you can remove has been removed (sometimes stuff can’t be completely removed), rinse the mat clean with warm water.
    4. Let the mat air dry.
    5. A newer/less used mat may have its stick recharged with just a cleaning. Older, more used mats will probably need to be restuck.
    6. To restick a ScanNCut mat, use low tack tape to cover the non-sticky edges of the mat.
    7. Take a Zig 2 Way Glue Pen with a broad tip and draw lines of glue across the whole would-be sticky area of the mat. Overlap the lines slightly to avoid missing any spots. Let air dry.
    8. If after drying the mat isn’t sticky enough, add another coat of glue and let air dry again. If the mat is too sticky, press a lint free cloth lightly onto the surface and remove to pull of some of the stick.
    9. Enjoy!
    Please refer to the video tutorial or my blog post for more detailed explanations of the above steps. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for showing the two different techniques of cleaning the mat and reglueing the mat.
    So often, people ask how to make their mat sticky again and they are told to strip off all the sticky and restick, when all they actually need to do is either give it a wipe with a baby wipe or give it a quick wash to refresh the sticky. 💜

      Very true. Sometimes just a good clean will do the job. But it's also nice to know the more in-depth method to re-stick a mat too. 8-)

    Aileen's Tack it Over and Over also works on your mats. Use water mixed with the glue and let it dry. This is what was used on the Cricut mats years ago when I first bought one.

      I'm not sure this re-stick method will work on the fabric mat since that mat is super, super sticky. Worth trying, but I'm not sure the Zig Two Way glue is sticky enough to restore that particular mat. If you try it and it works, let me know. Good luck!

      I'm glad you found it useful. Those glue pens will help you get a lot more use out of the mats. Just make sure they aren't too sticky after they're dry (happens to me a lot). You can press them to a cotton shirt or lint-free towel to take some of the stick off if you need to. 😉

    I have a new machine and did a no no on my fabric mat, I used heat and bond ultra and it relly messed up my brand new mat Any thoughts or sugestions for me?

    • @BlackSheep303Crafts
      @BlackSheep303Crafts  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a pretty big problem and I'm not sure there is a way to get that off, to be honest. It's supposed to be a permanent bond with fabric so not sure about the plastic of the mat. You could try using a chemical de-sticker to attempt to remove it like Undu. Pour some on there, let it sit for a bit and then use a scraper to try and get it off. That's the only thing I can think of that might work. Good luck!

    Do you have to clean the tip of the gluestick?
    So it wont get hard?

    • @BlackSheep303Crafts

      I never have. I wipe off any excess glue on it but that's it. Just make sure you put the cap back on and then it won't dry out.

    About how long did you wait for the glue to dry?
    One hour? Or longer?
    Thank You!

    • @BlackSheep303Crafts

      Well, I live in very arid Colorado so I waited about 20 - 30 minutes. In a more humid location it may take longer.

    I have the DX125 wat mat do I need pls help

    • @BlackSheep303Crafts
      @BlackSheep303Crafts  ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need the mats that work with DX models (obviously - lol), but those always start with CADXMAT and then have the stickiness and size in the model name. So, the Standard stickiness 12 x 12 mat is CADXMATSTD12. I’m not sure why Brother gives their mats these complicated designations but it can be tricky to figure out. Also, you can make sure any pictures of the packaging say “ScanNCut DX” on the white label. Hope that helps!

  • @AG-do13
    @AG-do13 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've done this before watching your video, but I'm not happy with it. The standard mat is way too sticky now😓
    I've a second mat where I left some water on the surface, this became a little better.

    • @BlackSheep303Crafts
      @BlackSheep303Crafts  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can also press the mat to a cotton t shirt or towel to remove some of the stickiness, as long as it's a tight knit so it won't leave too much residue on the mat.

    • @AG-do13
      @AG-do13 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BlackSheep303Crafts I've tried it and it doesn't really work for the paper cut lightbox I'm working on now.😓

      I'm sorry to hear that. It's not a perfect solution but works for me most of the time. Another viewer commented that they use Aileen's Tack It Over and Over mixed with water instead of the Zig pen. Maybe that would be better for you? Could be worth a try. Good luck!
