My husband is an electrical engineer.
When he gets wiring contract from ndi obodo oyibo whose project is being managed by a sibling/relative, he'd say to me, 'chai, if only the man in diaspora knew what his brother is doing with his money.'
Some relatives are just major scammers/extorters.
This video is very educative for ndi obodo oyibo.

A recommended Civil engineer or an Architect who has built a lot of buildings in the area will also be good. As for Land registration, a recommended lawyer who is based in the state will help. LOL, I've learnt not to expect too much so it's best to even supervise your supervisor. There are great family members and really terrible ones, to avoid sentiments don't use them

Thanks for sharing this informations, I am a victim myself for trusting someone I cared for, but I was wrong and by the time I realized what was happening, it was too late, lesson learned from my past experiences and I put a stop on my house project.
Also in your video you showed the stages of building a house but you didn’t include electrical and plumbing work. Can you please give some information on cost of electrification and plumbing.
    Thanks for the information.

I had same experience of being ripped off by my brothers. It was so bad, I couldn't believe what I saw, a very big shock to my system. I watch various videos to familiarize myself to different stages of building before proceeding with a particular section. Now I source for workers through TH-cam, get different quotations and paying whoever I chose directly.

Dear brothers and sisters back home, please stop scamming your relatives that live abroad. This is not just a Nigerian problem. This problem is very common all over the continent and even in the Caribbean. From Ghana to Uganda, Botswana to Liberia, Kenya to Zimbabwe, South Africa, Rwanda, Malawi etc even Jamaica and Haiti. Relatives and friends are scamming and conning their own relatives. Please understand life outside our home countries is very difficult that is why most people who have been living abroad for years start building their own houses back home.
My advice to anyone in Diaspora building back home is to take a 3 month unpaid leave and be there yourself to supervise everything. After 3 months you fly back abroad and ask your wife to go home to supervise it for 2 or 3 months. In five months your entire house is finished or 90% done. If you are a single woman or man use your brother or take a 6 month FMLA leave if you live in the US. We must build Africa on our own sweat and there's no room for greedy relatives to steal or scam us. Sending you all love from 🇺🇸and 🇰🇪.

Chai! But why is it so expensive in Benin? He should enquire from so many places o because there's no way the cement trucks will pass Benin and come to the east yet it's cheaper in the East.
Cement was N4,500 last December but that was due to the aftermath of the lockdown. But the price has dropped now. He should ask again.

Is it really advisable to build a house in Nigeria, while you’re leaving and staying in abroad with your family?
