  • Heartstopper you've seen as one of the cast ,you've seen me react to every episode of heartstopper. Now hear why i think Heartstopper is the best bisexual representation ever put to screen , this is why i think Hearstopper is Bisexual perfection.
    We compare Hearstopper to the queer shows that came before it Skam, Druck , Young Royals and love victor and we reflect on how queer representation can have a positive and negative effect depending on how its depicted, I also talk about my bias being in the show and how the cultural relevance give a nuance that I will appreciate more then others.

    So... as a cis gay man, I must say that the representation of our entire community is wonderful. From Elle to Charlie, Isaac to Nick, even Ben to Tara and Darcy, it is all so beautifully done. What has always bothered me about past bisexual "representation" in the media was, first what you said about promiscuity, but, second, that bisexual men will "dabble" with a dude but wind up with a woman. That is completely sad and misrepresents what I have seen locally with my own experience. (Granted, hearts do, indeed, get broken, but that is a human thing NOT a sexual orientation thing and sweeps across the spectrum) I'm almost 60 and truly wish I had this when I was Nick and Charlie's age. So proud it's out here for this generation.

      Yeah I know 2 other bi guys and like myself their all in long term relationships one with a guy the other with a girl, but I like how this shows a positivity to sexuality and focuses on the emotional connection before the physical, making it so much more accessible for all ages.

    I think you hit the nail on the head. Nick's presentation was perfect for bi rep. I'm bi/pan and its SO frustrating to see bisexuality always in the context of cheating, or completely ignored, even by the bi character. But this was just, perfect. His realisation that he also likes guys was perfect. Not having to use people to test the waters and see if he likes this or that was so refreshing.
    Heartstopper has done what so many queer stories fail to do, and its told the story in a way that's pretty flawless.

    100%. I've watched the show... probably more than 20 times in the past couple of weeks since discovering it, and it took a good while for me to realize what was hitting me SO hard about it. Heartstopper kicked off some serious identity reckoning for me, in that I've known I'm bisexual for a long time, but never quite felt like that was really actually an okay, valid thing that is legitimately part of the queer community. Intellectually, sure, but emotionally? Nah.The narrative's portrayal of Nick's journey is just so profound and so different from anything else on that point, and it's truly groundbreaking. I'm in my mid thirties, and my only wish is that this show could have been made a couple of decades ago.

    I agree with you. I’ve seen bisexual characters on Helluva Boss, and The Owl House (which I recommend watching if you haven’t seen them, and do reaction videos of them if you’d like. They’re a lot of fun.) but they weren’t exactly characters that I related to, and most of them were female characters. Nick Nelson was a character that I related to the most because I’ve been where’s he at. I was him. Heck, I even watched Pirates Of The Caribbean many times when I was in Middle School like he did, which might’ve been my bisexual awakening. Either that or Tomb Raider, or Casino Royale, or Troy. There’s were a lot of moments that hinted towards my sexuality when I was a kid. Anyway, like Charlie Spring, I too felt really connected to Nick. And I’m really glad that Nick/Kit is someone that I really look up to. He gave me a lot of courage to face some feelings that I repressed when I was a teenager, and he helped heal my 17/18 year old self. Although I still have a long way to go to find happiness again, this was a great start.

      @@Courtney-Jai I love Owl House and Amphibia. They’re my favorite Disney channel shows that came out the last few years. I’ve been an anime fan throughout my life, and these two shows really pleased my anime nerd self. I highly recommend watching Hazbin Hotel, and Helluva Boss if you haven’t seen them yet. They’re both a lot of fun. Hazbin Hotel is like an R-Rated Nightmare Before Christmas while Helluva Boss is like an R-Rated Beetlejuice. @@Courtney-Jai I still don’t think that Julie was trying to say that bisexual people are incapable of commitment. And there is every indication that the relationship between Isak and Even ends up being a lasting one. (The straight folks in the show aren’t all that great at commitment, either.) Still, I certainly get your point. Even certainly could’ve handled things better. If he had broken up with his girlfriend before getting together with Isak, his actions would have been less problematic.

    It is absolutely despicable that people will assume being bisexual equates to being untrustworthy. Love is love, people!! You can't help who you like or love, it's not a choice! And when people say that if you're bisexual you could go the "easy route" and date people of the opposite sex just so they can fit you into their heteronormative world gets me just as irate, for the very same reasons. Why can't people just let each other live their lives? How does it affect you what someone else is doing??? Never understood this, and never will.

    This sounds ridiculous, but Heartstopper was actually my bi awakening at 46 yrs old. I’m a cis female who had crushes on boys all through school until one day I developed a massage crush on a girl when I was 18. Since then, I’ve been attracted to or had crushes on both men and women over the years, though I’ve only been in relationships with men. There was no bisexual representation or acceptance in my circles 20 yrs ago. It was either “we’re all a little gay aren’t we?” or it was just “experimenting.” My ignorance led me to not even take myself seriously, and I thought I was just promiscuous. So sad. Nick’s bisexual journey in Heartstopper is what made me realize the truth about myself all these years later, and more importantly, to understand and accept myself without shame or negative stereotypes. The show and channels like this are changing lives without a doubt. So grateful to you!

    Even in Skam is actually Pan, but since a lot of people don't know what that is, they might assume he's Bi. I really love how they don't seem to make any big deal about the fact that he was dating a girl, and now he likes a boy. Literally not one person in the show ever comments on it or asks him about it. It just is what it is. And I think this is a great representation of Love is Love. :)

    Good video, but I have to add that gay and trans people are often questioned about why they are who they are. Happens all the time. I'm a gay man, and in the last few years--as trans people have become more visible--quite a few straight people have felt it necessary to ask me why trans people are the way they are. Or they just simply say, "I don't understand it," to which I have replied, "It's not up to you to understand it. Just mind your business and let people be." And I have a number of trans friends who are constantly questioned by their own friends, family, acquaintances and even strangers. People are curious, but they can also be rude. When I came out and talked about relationships, I can't tell you how many people I knew who would say things like, "Well, who's the man and who's the woman? How do you figure that out?" I usually just said, "That's not how it works."

    • @Courtney-Jai
      @Courtney-Jai  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it was poor wording what I was meant to say was being questioned within the lgbtq+ being bisexual /pansexual gets constantly questioned as its almost the black sheep in the group. Biearsure is a big problem.

      @@Courtney-Jai Whaaaaaat? 🤯
      The movie was TRASH. They only made one and then they quit, THAT’S how bad it was. The acting was terrible across the board, and Magnus was barely in it!
      The show is a MILLION times better. If you think it only had “teen drama”, you must not have made it very far into the series at all. What a shame..

    • @Courtney-Jai
      @Courtney-Jai  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DoubleBlack2.0 just because I didn't like it doesn't mean its bad I just didnt enjoy it my sister likes it , I tend to find that with alot of shows reminded me of vampire diaries and teen wolf. I didn't make it that far through it because it just didn't connect with me. I prefer shows like that to be alot more adult true blood was a good one.
