    thanks for doing the long version, I have a 67 bug and it used to short out when I turned the wheel hard to I think the left. Now nothing.
    I took it to a shop and he said he fixed it, so now I have to do it my self. Took it to another shop and the guy just whined about how hard it was to do it.

    Love the older steering wheel like this one I have a 78'SB Vert and hate that bulky wheel is there a way to install an older wheel like this one to my Bug? Or is there a similar looking after market wheel avail.

      We offer a number of different steering wheels but none of the early model stock wheels will fit the 1978.

    It's two different steering wheels so it didn't show what needed

    Hey can you do a tutorial on how to install a radio. It would be nice to do that because I recently purchased my first vw bug but it doesnt have a radio.

    My horn wire is stuck somewhere in the shaft. How am I going to get it out to connect to the steering wheel

    • @Sam_Mebane
      @Sam_Mebane 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pull it out from the bottom and run a new wire up.

    I just got a '66 & need to fix the horn...the ground wire coming up through the center is missing. Any chance you can tell me where it should go so I can find it or replace it & how to snake it back through the column? I'm assuming it doesn't go the same place as the turn signal wires since it comes up through the middle instead.

      Our most recent video should have all the answers you are looking for (th-cam.com/video/rJW0cTaEFj0/w-d-xo.html). There are time stamps withing the video description that will help you navigate to the horn rewiring sections. In short, the ground wire is located within the steering column and the horn harness itself goes along with the drivers side of the trunk.

    Thank you for the video tutorial, I am having the same issue with my horn, I have a 65 and I believe it was converted to 12 volt, I ordered a 12 volt horn but received a 6 Volt, I hooked the horn up to a battery and the horn sounded, I hooked everything up on my car and the horn makes a metallic clicking noise but no sound, I know the horn works but don't know if I should return the 6 volt and get the 12 volt as this might not necessarily be the reason the horn doesn't work. I followed the steps and sanded down the steering column and the wiring makes contact and sparks making a clanking noise in the speaker, I also cleaned the horn connection tab on the column as well as tracing all the wires to see if they were not connected properly and still having the same issue. Do you think its the 6volt vs the 12 volt? regardless it should still sound right? Thanks for your time

      A 6 volt horn will not work on a 12 volt system for long. It will burn out which sounds like what may have happened to yours. If you ordered a 12 volt horn from us and received a 6 volt unit, our apologies! Give us a call at 1-800-231-1784 and we will have a 12 volt unit sent out to you.

    I have a air horn & doesn't work it's hard to follow the wires it's a bounty hunter buggy & stuff is tight how would I test it to find out were the problem is

    • @JBugsVWParts
      @JBugsVWParts  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A buggy can be wired any number of ways. You can start at the button (check for power or ground depending on how it is wired) and work your way to the horn from there. Air horns commonly fail because the air pump itself locks up so you might check for power and ground at the pump with a test light.

    what do u have to do to run the wire thru the steering column? i want to hook up my horn its got a push button now hate it

      We start underneath the gas tank with the left front wheel off. A wire can be fed up through the slot in the steering column up to the steering wheel. It’s a fairly simple job, the wire plugs into the steering box bolt at the bottom and to the horn ring at the top. Keep in mind that is only a part of the horn button wiring though. We have the horn wiring layouts for the Beetle’s listed here: www.jbugs.com/VW-Tech-Article-Steering-Wheel-Horn-Diagrams.html.

    No videos show how to remove the horn. You just skip to a scene where the horn is gone and there’s a different steering wheel there. I need to know how to takeoff the horn which looks exactly like the first one in this video

    • @Sam_Mebane
      @Sam_Mebane 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Removal depends on what style of horn button you have, original wheels like the one we first show, have a snap on button, so it just pries up, it's fairly simple.
