I had to place rubber cement to the ends of the springs just to keep them in the holes in the wheel while trying to line up the screws. I wonder if those screws make contact with anything?
The plastic inserts that go in the cupped washer/ring and the horn ring keep things insulated so it doesn’t ground out and power the horn. Have to have all of those inserts. I was missing a couple. That’s why I bought the kit with the new springs, inserts etc.
@@carguytroy I bought the kit from Wolfsburg west. I put it together and the horn does not make contact with the brass cup facing up or down. But I have power and can touch the wire to the screws and get a honk. It should be so simple.
Been trying unsuccessfully to confirm the size socket needed to remove the steering wheel nut on my 64. The the steering shaft on the early vw's was smaller and takes a different size than newer cars. Haven't had two people yet give me the same answer. Any feedback much appreciated!
I'm sorry I don't know the size of the steering wheel nut. I actually used a large adjustable wrench to get the one off the Karmann Ghia. I didn't have much large metric stuff at the time and just used what I had handy.
so many videos have that brass cup facing up or down. I have a 67 bug and I've tried it both ways. Is the ridge on the brass cup supposed to touch the copper ring inside the wheel? It's not honking. Or it horns when I turn the wheel. depending if the cup is up or down.
I did mine in the video with the “cupped” side toward the steering wheel, flat side facing the horn ring. That’s the way it was when I took it apart. And if I remember right the service manual also said to put it together that way. Id have to double check the manual.

Do the three screws go all the way down orj just partially way down?

no they don't , you need to back them off in order to push on the horn ring.

Can't say as I blame you. I don't mind a few ads here and there but sometimes it can be a bit much.
