We have a very “English” Christmas, church on Christmas Eve, then on the day, presents in the morning, followed by a roast turkey dinner and Christmas pudding with all the family. After which we try to stay awake long enough to watch the Queens speech, but don’t always manage it! Thank You so much for your channel and wishing you a very happy Christmas.

I just celebrated a very American Christmas. I went to bed early on Christmas Eve after much Brandy and eggnog. I woke up Christmas morning, received cash money as my present from mom, and then we all watched my dog open his gifts from "Santa" (two new squeaky toys). After that, we feasted on fried chicken and collard greens. A little more eggnog and Brandy later, then once again it's lights out.

Thank you so much! This is again very interesting video! Here in Finland we get presents in Christmas Eve. Father Christmas visits those families who have small children. Before gifts we eat rosolli salad, baked potatoes, peas and lax. Then the main course with ham, rutabaga-, potatoe-, liver- and carrot casseroles. For dessert we have riceporridge and plumpudding, separately. Then in the evening, after getting gifts we drink coffee with buns and tarts. Christmas tree, a spruce, has been decorated in the morning. On Christmas day we go to church at 7 o'clock. Then coffee at home. Then we eat a lot again on lunch time. 🎄🎁🎅

honestly, it depends on the family basically but in Argentina, it's summer so we tend to eat outside with family or relatives, we eat "Asado" or also called Barbeque. We can also add empanadas, vitel toné, and various kinds of salad like Russian Salad (with potato,peas, eggs and mayonnaise), some prepare Waldorf salad (apple and Celery) which I'm not personally fond of. We also enjoy fruit salads with apples, oranges, bananas, grapes and sometimes we add grapefruit and watermelons. Usually, as it is very hot, I used to like to celebrate in the pool but now I just put on some Light clothes and enjoy with music and laugh. Those who live near the sea celebrate there with parties and beer and pizza, then after the big meal we eat ice cream, Raisins, nuts, and all kinds of Dry fruits, even though some are really expensive. Some have what it's known as "Christmas bread" or in Spanish, "Pan dulce" but I don't really like it because it's too sweet for me. Of course Champagne or Cider might br served as well. As I said, it changes depending on families and tradition. But I guess more or less we all agree

Our meal is usually standing beef rib roast with varying sides. We used to go to church on Christmas Eve, but now just watch Christmas movies in front of a fire

I celebrate Yule on Dec 21st with a midwinter feast and a gift exchange at my home with friends. Then I keep Christmas with my family at my parent's home with a traditional (for us) ham and cold side dish buffet and gift exchange. I'm in the Midwest of the US. If we have snow at Christmas we hitch the pony to an old sleigh and ride around. If there's no snow, we do the same thing only we use the pony cart instead, but there are still jingle bells either way. On Christmas Eve we are having the Feast of the Seven Fishes which isn't a local custom, but one I adopted when I lived in New Jersey. We have a big breakfast on Christmas morning after we open presents.

When I was younger, I attended Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, but now I go to Mass during the day. Some years I'd prepare crown roast of lamb with wild rice, mushroom and artichoke stuffing. This year I've yet to set my menu, but it most likely will feature prime rib. Joyeux Noël.

I am an atheist Canadian male in his 60's and I loathe Christmas - the rampant commercialism of it in North America. I try to pretend it is not happening. And I've always found Christmas food a bit revolting - turkey especially. I have worked and lived around the world and I liked working in the former Soviet Union years ago where Christmas doesn't exist in our way. However, once in Kiev I had a somewhat major operation scheduled in a private clinic for... December 25th! I checked in the afternoon of the 24th and because the nurses knew I was 'Western' they had made a pretty little 'tree' out of small bits of pine bough and put it on the credenza in my my room and I was truly touched. That, to me, was the most 'Christian' thing I had ever witnessed.
I get your point. We don't really spend a lot of money on presents. I think I spend maximum 100 Eurs each year. No more. It's not about gifts after all. I do enjoy the world slowing down a bit, and spending some extra time with my parents and siblings... I won't wish you a merry Christmas seeing how you're an atheist, but please do allow me to wish you the best , good health and happiness for 2022 !!

Merry Christmas! I too give golden snuffboxes to my relations on Christmas Day lol. Our church always has main services only Sundays, and so the 19th will be Christmas Sunday for us, but Christmas day for us mainly involves family gift opening, the queen's Christmas speech (even here in the USA), Christmas dinner, and "It's a Wonderful Life" our family Christmas movie. Thanks for all the content this year. Looking forward to 2022!

Plan is I'm suprising my mum tomorrow by coming home for Christmas early from uni and Christmas Eve we'll have a nice meal and we have a tradition of giving a Christmas Eve gift every year so we'll do that, go to midnight mass and then go again Chrismas morning, open presents while Christmas dinner is being cooked and then open some more and then probably play with the cat for the rest of it 🎄🎄🎄 hope everyone in this comment section has a wonderful Christmas! My family usually goes to Mass on Christmas Eve, although we normally opt for the earlier vigil and not midnight Mass.
As a cradle Episcopalian I grew up having an Americanized version of an English Christmas: church on Christmas Eve and then, if we could, go over to the Italian cousins when they returned home from Midnight Mass for a large homemade meal of lasagna, spaghetti w/red gravy, and canoli. If we didn't do that then we would come home, exchange gifts and go to bed. The following morning the rest of the gifts were opened, Santa had come, and it was off to Granny Plumb's for a family dinner of a roast, or turkey, or more likely ham with all of the trimmings.
Now that I am widowed and my children grown, I may go to my son-in-law's parents house for chili and tamales either before ore after attending service on Christmas Eve.
The Christmasses of our youth are extra special. Happy Holidays to you and your family Mary !

This was very interesting! I have studied the history of the French and British monarchs for most of my life since my teenage years, so I knew that the Christmas tree was a German tradition that was not popular elsewhere until Queen Victoria and Prince Albert brought it to their court. But I never gave a thought to what Christmas was like in the courts of Louis XIV - XVI. Thank you, and a very Joyeux Noël to you!

My husband and I wish everyone a peaceful holiday & a happy Christmas to those who celebrate. My family were not very religious, maybe because it was a mixed Catholic & Protestant union. We opened our gifts from family Christmas eve with the eldest male having that responsibility. All were welcome to visit then. Christmas day was for Santa, adults & children who said they believed received small gifts 🎁 in their stocking. We are Christians now & love going to midnight mass & morning service.

"Christmas at Versailles" confirms something I've long suspected but never wanted to admit: that Advent really is/was a season of fasting. In fact, for the first time this year I've made some token sacrifices to acknowledge the penitential character of the season. Maybe next year I will do more. I mean, if it is good enough for the les rois de France ...
I agree with those who like the Midnight Mass and with those who lament the commercialization of the season.

Couldn’t agree more. I’m a atheist but, raised a Catholic, I wonder how all this fits with the story of Christ driving away the merchants from the temple. I’m not against making business but it has now override the initial meaning, which is to gather and take care of others, especially less fortunate ones.

I am a Hindu so I don't celebrate Christmas in the religious sense but I do observe gift exchanging and feasting with my family on Christmas Day. Christmas is also a public holiday in my country, Malaysia, so we also take the opportunity to spend time as a family.

This video is very interesting. I'm a evangelical brazilian, and Christmas can be diferent from the catolic families one, but we usually have the dinner in the Christmas eve, wich we only eat after midnight in the Christmas Day. And then in the morning we usually open the presents. We don't go to church frequently in Christmas because sometimes it's not sunday or the other days that have church. Merry Christmas to all!

swedes adore porkdishes, meatballs, aldadaubes, steak, sausages -all with pork. For 50 years ago also a big pigshead with appel in the mouth was popular. Today Sweden contains of 20% muslims whih means more international food as turkey, fish are popular. Sweden also have a lot of pickled fish, smoked fish, and other forms of fish that has got some more or less curious ingredients. Since most of my friends are from other countries i do get a rather mixed christmasfood. Many of swedish dishes on christmas table has been the same as 16th century,

Hello:-) Iced chestnut is a literal translation of “marron glacé” (glacé=iced) but it is not ice-cream at all. Glacer (noun=glaçage) is a cooking technique to make a fruit or vegetable glowing and making it look like it’s covered in a thin layer of ice. It’s basically to candy a fruit or vegetable with a syrup of sugar and water. Chestnuts do very well with this process but a few others can be used as well. Personally I often slightly ice a few Pearl onions when cooking a boeuf bourguignon, for taste and visual purpose;-)
PS: glaçage is also used to describe a pottery making technique to put a thin, glowing layer of protection on your pot.

I make a Christmas dinner for my family. Normally a roast with all the fixings. When all the family shows up we open gifts, followed by dinner. Then get drunk and play games. We are not religious so no church.

Hi, I'm a historian & particularly interested in food. I looked through about six recipe books but found nothing much, but I think the "iced" means that the dish was served with icing sugar decoration, rather than as in "ice cream". Did find a great recipe for chestnut puree pie with sugar topping.
