I think the vmax is the most iconic motorcycle ever made

Why didn't you ride back home from Atlanta? I purchased my bike in Long Island, NY and took a couple of days to ride back to Florida.
I guess you got yours from NY Honda Yamaha? I got mine used @300 miles from them. Great experience and great deal. Best of it, Great bike. Rode to Connecticut in chilly October weather.
Totally agree with you. I would never change the exhaust on my 2016 . It is one of the defining features of the bike. I bought mine new in SC and have over 13 k miles on it now. I love this bike. Its fun to ride, handles great unlike the Gen 1 and best of all its reliable. 1st major service is not until 41,000 miles.
Just a point - if you get low enough on the twisties it will scrape the exhaust tip. You can switch tips from one side to the next to hide it on the inside.
Yeah but aftermarket pipes make the bike sound like it’s supposed to.

Thanks for sharing the experience Jeff. Sad to see the VMAX discontinued. I always get asked what am I riding. Love the torque, gotta watch out for those tail spins sometimes ;)

I'm in the same situation you were in before buying. My last bike was a zx14. Didnt ride in 8yrs but the vmax has been in the back of my mind for a while. A unique bike. Such great bike, low maint shaft drive, fuel injection. The only bad thing about that bike is the range. Small fuel tank for the engine size.

Tom, how does it compare to the MT.? I think the MT10 may be the basis for a new VMAX.

Unfortunately, the VMAX is no longer listed on the Yamaha website. I have an upcoming video on that topic. However, if you are interested in the dealer inventory for other Yamaha bikes, go to the page for a specific bike (V STAR 250 for example). Jeff, there are advantages/disadvantages to the stock muffler. It's good that you purchased a vmax with the stock muffler. Later if you want to modify it you can. The biggest benefit to going with an aftermarket system is that you loose about ~60-lbs in weight as the stock muffler weighs a lot! Plus you gain almost 5hp in weight savings going with an aftermarket system. They are a lot louder, but worth it. The Y.E.S service plan is a double edge sword. Your dealership may go out of business, or the servicer of Y.E.S. In your area may not be around for the life of the warranty. A lot of motorcycle shops are falling by the waste side these days as a sign of the times. I bought my Vmax at a local dealership and 3 years later it went out of business. A lot of mom and pop shops are going under as the motorcycle industry has been declining in sales for the past decade. All bikes over 1000cc's are getting the shaft and being hit with emissions standards similar to cars which is the reason why yamaha decided to discontinue the vmax! The AMA put up a good fight for us the past ~20 years. But unfortunately California emission standards is the reason for the big heavy catalytic converter in the first place...

@@JeffMarcum Motorcycle technology lags behind cars roughly ~20 years. The biggest issue with the full electric bikes is the range. I prefer a ~150-200mile range. That is why I went with a larger gas tank. And I also want to get a 2018+ Goldwing DCT once the price drops. Please join our facebook group "vmax club" and "Max Motorvation".
The exhaust is like it is for emissions it literally sounds like a 200horsepower scooter. When I get my vmax if it’s stock I’m ripping the pipe off and throwing it away.
I have 4 Vmaxs: 2010, 11, 12 and 13. The 10, 12 and 13 have almost no miles on them

It’s okay for short distances. I have had a couple people back there. There isn’t much support and nothing to hold on to other than the driver. I wouldn’t want to be back there for very long.
My wife loves it, used to have a VTX 1300 and she feels way safer on the MAX, ironically. I do have the passenger back rest tho.
Are windshields available for these?
Yes, several companies, including Yamaha, make windscreens for this bike.

I’m buying a 1985 V MAX with 11K original miles. Maroon color with black. An older gentleman who collects muscle cars is selling it because he can’t ride bikes anymore however he did just buy a Dodge Demon to go with his garage full of toys!!
A 1985 with only 11K is quite a find. I hope all goes well with getting it.

@@Kevinlivinloud MOM's in Foxboro MA has one for 16,999 on CL. I just bought a 2019 with 2600 miles for 12K from a private party. Not a scratch on it and it came with aftermarket 4-1 exhaust installed. Owner gave me the stock exhaust too. I'm the 3rd owner.. Bike is scary fast...Must be why the previous owners didn't keep. I also have a 2018 Goldwing Base Model. It's a great bike.

Awesome bike except that tack is totally ugly wouldn’t buy that bike just because of the tack other than that awesome bike
So, because the bike is so FN fast, you need a tach like that just to see and not constantly red line. It’s like being on warp speed in Star Trek. One of the things on the bike that is more function than form.
That tach is awesome! It’s so Vmax.
