Jesse that may be your best video. Most fisherman will not tell nobody nothing. Nice to see people working together. Sometime when you are fishing around Cedar point or Swansboro I don’t live but a couple of hours from there and actually had a camper at Hammocks beach for years.
As an avid outdoorsman I’ve always wanted to get into kayak fishing. I decided to purchase and setup a PA 12 recently and I appreciate that your so willing to pass down your knowledge. Your videos are not only top notch, but what’s really cool is seeing that your willing to reach back and pull people up. That’s imo what makes a true outdoorsman. Maybe someday we will cross paths so I can shake your hand.
@@SouthernReelsFishing hey bud, I have a couple of questions for you. FYI, I did subscribe to you. 1. What's the name of the marina or boat ramp you launched from? 2. I have a Hobie outback with a torqueedo too. So how long it did take to get to the CBT on 1hp? 3. I've fished the stone ships before, a while back, caught a mess of grey trouts. Can you catch flounder there too, and where are the speckies in the area. 4. I'm up in the Springfield NoVA area and dragging my kayak on a trailer. Is there one motel that can accommodate parking for me? Thanks.
Nice work! My uncle usually takes us out to the cbbt to catch some. Haven't gone yet, gonna have to give him a call lol. Watched my mom reel in a 27 inch doormat sucker weighed 8lbs.
Congrats buddy that my friend is an amazing day...I went over there for memorial day and caught some shorts that was about it....great time on cranking it once off the bottom I lost 2 rigs yesterday kinda dragging them.
Great video once again! One tip is to see if you can find a power handle for your reel. Love the low profile reels but a power handle makes a huge difference. My next reel is a Daiwa Lexa WN 300.
Thanks man! I'm not sure if I would like it, I love the fight on the low profile reel and the bigger handle would be almost awkward I think. Maybe not... I do know where to get one just don't really need it yet. Maybe when i find those elusive 10 lbers
Southern Reels Fishing Next time you’re at Oceans East or another shop check out the Daiwa Lexa 300 WN. Basically the same low profile style reel with a power handle. And even John Skinner, the fluke master, has switched over to power handles on his low profile reels. LOL
Ok I will check it out for sure. And yes I have seen that John likes the power handles, and obviously I have seen all his videos and practice his techniques. Although it did take some time to get them working the way he does lol!
Not to sound dumb what do you store your fish in when on the yak I have a cooler butbits just to big and do bleed your fish thank you for all your info.and please stay safe.
@@SouthernReelsFishing ty so much if u don't mind where did u get the bag and the name of it thanks again for all your help. Just moved to FL in Dec and I'm trying to learn as much as I can thanks.
I'll usually jig each at least twice, and you'll be moving with the current while jigging. As the current carries you just keep it close to the bottom and as straight down as you can keep it
How do you like the Hobie PA ? I picked up a used PA12 in the winter with a Bixby. I'm still getting use to it. I doesn't maneuver like my Old town prowler but the pedaling is nice. i'm finding the PA12 isn't as fast. Just wondering whats your opinion on it. Love the video by the way.
Hows the 3D StructureScan treating you? Did it help you find that trough along the rock jetty? Also, You KILLED it. I'll have to try going this weekend!
Southern Reels Fishing picked up my metal lipper there just now I will be fishing St Simons sound in October haven’t fished in a long time No boat so will be working docks and marsh shore lines near bridges-I will need some luck. Thanks for videos and feedback George from GA
I watched your videos and see you use a pro angler and what looks like an outback? For jetty fishing like oregon inlet how would the pro angler perform? Would it be too big?
Not too big once it is in the water, Getting it there was the problem for me and why I changed to the Outback. Dragging a PA14 several hundred yards through the dunes or down a beach was not much fun lol
It was nice at first, but soon I realized that the added complexity of it and the worry of damaging it was a constant stress point. I fish around too much structure to have something so expensive constantly in harms way.
Jessie , thanks for kind offer but can I get rain check on this one ? I really want to catch Sheepshead tomorrow . If weather seems bad , I may join you guys . Thanks and good luck .
my bad i read to fast it was jun not january haha alright buddy great video im going to little river jettys today catch bull red drum caught a 30inch yesterfay
Thank for the opinion but as good as this rig works I won't be changing anything. Plus the hairs in the bucktail are great for holding pro-cure gel which makes the rig even more effective. You catch the larger Flounder on the Bucktail, and smaller ones on the teaser.
Good video but at one point you said “keeper number 7” sure hope your not keeping more than your limit. We all got a part to play In conserving out fish and wildlife populations.
Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

Always glad to help
Thanks Jon! Greatly appreciate your thoughts on catching fish! I hope to see you out there some day. We are mostly down around San Luis. Regards, Mike
Great day fishing! And those were some nice flatties. I’m boatless so I pretty much only fish from the beaches here in the VB/ Norfolk area.

Just found your site. Really enjoy your vids. You've got those flounder dialed in. I know they can pile in in the wash holes on the pilings. Thanks
I’m going on a fluke charter off Neptune NJ next week!
Great video as always man! Thanks for the jigging tips. Looking forward to going for flounder later this season. Thank you!
Thanks mans maybe I'll see you out there
Great job bud! We'll see you out there.
It was a pleasure to be out there and meet and fish with you sir! ill be back no doubt. (bob in the red jackson)
Heck yeah man nice to meet ya too! Sorry I didn't have much footage of ya out there... Anytime you want to fish just let me know
Killer trip out there Jessie! Flounder for days!
Thanks it was a really fun day!
That corner along those rocks was our secret spot during the early to mid seventies always good for a dozen keepers to top off the cooler
It is still producing!
First one...great place to fish I’m gonna have to try out this kayak fishing... that’s some nice door mats y’all caught
Once you go yak, you'll never go back Lol!

I have tried out there once before, caught citation toads lol! Not sure where to go for FLounder out there, there is so much bridge to fish
I’ve recently come across your channel and have thoroughly loved watching your content. Keep it up!
Thank you! Will do!

Hello!
Thanks for the tips i like that rig alot. Subbed
Thanks for the sub!
@@SouthernReelsFishing your welcome keep up on the good videos
That is a awesome video brother
Fathers day I'll be there dark and early. Need to repair a scupper this weekend
Heck yeah man hit it up!
Nice job catching them! So the trick is not to shake rod and reel in but just to keep it at the bottom and wiggle rod without reeling it in?
Pretty much yes
out of control!! what a GREAT day!!
Saying the flounder great video they are Finally showing up here in Florida
Thanks man!
AWE HAW somebody got that technique down. Good job
It's a work in progress lol! Learn something new each time I go out
Where can I get the chair your using???
Awesome video man great tips!!
Thanks!
Dope video i needed some salt water tips
Great job. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome and thanks for watching!
What power rod should I use for bucktail fishing ?
I like rods rated for 3/4 to 3 oz lures. Fast action... That is a good setup for most inshore jigging setups
Not to sound dumb what do you store your fish in when on the yak I have a cooler butbits just to big and do bleed your fish thank you for all your info.and please stay safe.
A cooler soft bag with ice packs. I bleed the fish using a large hoop and a stringer

Thanks!

Very informative. When you are fishing piling eddys how long do you try each piling and do you just jig it in place?
I'll usually jig each at least twice, and you'll be moving with the current while jigging. As the current carries you just keep it close to the bottom and as straight down as you can keep it
Hell yea thats a great day for sure
Yes sir thank you!
Damn! I’m new to salt water fishing. Flounder Really intrigue me. I ride a 12’ 6” Lightning Strike HD. Any tips on getting started?
FInd a bridge with clear water and start jigging
👍🌅 from Shasta lake & Sacramento River.. 👍🦀🤗

It was my first kayak and I loved it. But ended up selling it for an Outback. Lighter and just as able
What brand& model is your bait caster reel?
thats a great fluke spot
Just found your channel and I'm excited to see a good local fishing channel! Are the puppy drum biting in lynnhaven and rudee inlet?
Yes sir they are!
Were you next to the bay bridge tunnel?
North end of the bridge
I thought so... I grew up in va bch and fished the south end when i was younger
Hows the 3D StructureScan treating you? Did it help you find that trough along the rock jetty?
Also, You KILLED it. I'll have to try going this weekend!
It was a help for sure, that unique view is amazing! I already know that spot pretty well but it shed a new light on it! Thanks and hit it up bud!
Loved it.
Thanks!
What is the metal holder you loaned and friend used instead of plastic on the big flounder he caught
Just some lippers that I got at walmart...

picked up my metal lipper there just now
I will be fishing St Simons sound in October haven’t fished in a long time
No boat so will be working docks and marsh shore lines near bridges-I will need some luck.
Thanks for videos and feedback
George from GA
good luck out there!
Backwater Predator Grubs are the best flounder lures out there
Will look into that
What reels u using bo
Do those kayaks have live wells?
Is it possible to ride the outgoing tide to the bridge then the incoming tide back to the boat ramp?
Yes it is, there is a cross current you will hit as you exit the creek canal, but it is manageable...
I watched your videos and see you use a pro angler and what looks like an outback? For jetty fishing like oregon inlet how would the pro angler perform? Would it be too big?

@@SouthernReelsFishing thanks! Thinking about the outback since I figured dragging the pa would be a pain also
Does a Fish Finder help for Fluke(Flounder)?
Helps locate structure and depth changes yes. Cant see the flounder though
That's a real nice Kayak, what type Hobbie is that?
A Pro Angler 14
That was a great trip and video!! How's the Torqueedo working out? You think it's worth the investment?
THanks! And honestly I don't even use it anymore, probably will be selling it
@@SouthernReelsFishing thank you sir! I appreciate the feedback. I've been looking at them but having a hard time justifying the cost.

What action is your rod?
Jessie, are you going to getting out this weekend ?
Yes heading to Lynnhaven tomorrow morning early
Ok, good luck tomorrow . I'm debating between Kiptopeke , Wise , Rudee and Lynnhaven . I want to stock the freezer too .
Come on out and fish with us, we're launching around 6
Jessie , thanks for kind offer but can I get rain check on this one ? I really want to catch Sheepshead tomorrow . If weather seems bad , I may join you guys . Thanks and good luck .
Good luck and if you are going out to CBBT be careful, those tides are strong this week
How deep is it over there by the bridge? And how many did jay catch? I’m just curious bc I’m also a regular paddler
It ranges from 10 to 35 ft. Jay did great he caught 5 total, 4 keepers
+Southern Reels Fishing awesome!
What kind of kayak are you fishing on and dose it have a motor ?
This was an older Hobie Pro Angler 14. I had an electric motor on the back,
Wow, where were you?
Eastern Shore of VA, Fishermans Island
Did yall catch any big ones
A 24 incher is pretty big in that area, so yes
What Costas are those?
Which tsunami rod is that, the MH version?
Great question, and I honestly don't know. I will have to check and let you know
You should show how you clean them
Maybe soon
How much for the boat ?
What brand&model is your rod?
Quantum accurist. And I;m not sure about this rod, I think it was Star Rods
What line do you use
Berkley Power Pro 20lb braid green
Why can you only keep four over 16 and half inches?
Virginia Regulations
What kind of boat is that
Older model Hobie Pro Angler kayak
was these caught in January
No, not gonna get them in January
my bad i read to fast it was jun not january haha alright buddy great video im going to little river jettys today catch bull red drum caught a 30inch yesterfay

I want to know the secret..... ☹ Just got back from VA didn't catch anything
Timing and technique, Also clear water
seems nice virginIA
Is July a good month. Cause I was at Kiptopeke and didn’t get any flounder out there. That was middle of June
It can vary, kiptopeke seems better a little later in the season

0riginal Lee I disagree. The bucktail gives a larger presentation and I always catch the larger one on my bucktail.
