    That’s the proper way to do it, a lot of roof leak with time because they only use caulking to keep water away but u need to keep in mind that caulking shrinks

    You should have added a scrap piece in that row above that exhaust pipe and then ran a full shingle to cover that pipe flash. There should never be a seam on top of that flashing for that exhaust pipe,that seam should have been moved to one side or the other of that exhaust flange 💯💯

      how is it wrong to have a keyway above a flashing? what if you have a 4 foot boot? You gonna make special shingles so you dont have a keyway above it? lol your trolling bro If you think that you have not done much roofing because there are so many situations you do not have a choice. large chimneys rubber roof tie ins etc

    Thanks for the video I am doing this for the first time today on my own roof. This answers a lot of questions I had on how to attack these exhaust vents. I like the ice and water shield idea I’m also going to do that on mine.

    Instead of leaving that seam there I would of ran the other side of those steps up until before that shingle that had a seam and then used a smaller shingle on that top course and then a full shingle next so then there is no seam . 👍🏽

    It won’t hurt adding that weather watch but honestly must leaks come from those galvanized pipes rusting on collar or boot . Those shingles covering around are just as good since the shingles seal themselves . Hopefully you got the dumpsters business to provide disposal of the old shingles .

      I do not think it is completely necessary and is time consuming but it could stop a leak from a shitty job

    10:08 he says "not to go through then metal" (vent flashing) . He nails into the flashing. No big deal if you put roofing cement on the nail heads(?)..

    What I do if the shingle edge falls so close to the edge of the flashing is cut a short one about 18" and then run a full one just so a seem doesn't line up so close to the edge of the flashing.

    • @Lifes_Apprentice
      @Lifes_Apprentice  ปีที่แล้ว

      add a shingle about 12 inches and then a full one but be careful with your nail spacing so you dont have nails in keyway. or just caulk the edge or seam of shingle

    Hey, great videos, but I wanted to caution that most codes will require a minimum of 1" clearance from combustibles. It looks like you shoved the flue into the roof sheathing.

  • @joerobijr

    Great content man! Is there a reason for putting the ice and water shield on last?

    • @Lifes_Apprentice
      @Lifes_Apprentice  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The reason we put it on last is just for water flow. If water was to get in it would run over water shield and onto metal or lower courses of shingles

  • @Brandon-no3vc

    No tar underneath the metal?

  • @awac4577
    @awac4577 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm just curious but is that underlayment or weather shield directly beneath the pipe flange (prior to the shingles)? How was that applied? Looks like one, continuous piece in the video. In any case, thank you for the video. Very helpful as I need to do the same thing on my roof around a chimney pipe (except the roof is on already).

    • @Lifes_Apprentice
      @Lifes_Apprentice  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      we installed 2 continuous rows of ice and water at bottom of roof. that is why. it is not neccessary to have ice and water under or over
