    I really appreciate you demonstrating with a student who it doesn’t come naturally to. It’s even more impressive and motivational

    I learned this myself and now i can da it almost perfectly, to start doing it on ice don’t start in a cirkel (facing out the cirkel). I starter with doing it in a statight line with bendes knees, after a time i could stretch my knees fully. Then it was time to do it in the cirkel realy slow and first with benden knees( keep pushing to the limit here) and then i had it, i started tacking more speed,... (this is how i learned it myself, maybe everyting i say is wrong , sorry for bad english)

    Such an interesting move, was not familiar with it yet. I love doing the inside spread eagle so I'm super excited to give this a try. I always love when coaches show their own struggle/warming up or just showing how not to do something because it teaches us so much more than just showing perfect examples.

    You say Sophie is not flexible, and yet she looks very very flexible. I cannot do any of those on ice foot positions, nowhere near, and I've been trying and stretching for a year or two. The best I can do is skate in a 2m wide circle. I think many if not most people are more like me than Sophie. How do I get that incredible flexibility?

    • @pinkaboocrafts4840
      @pinkaboocrafts4840 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes! Some people are naturally very flexible and can easily do a spread eagle. However I have been stretching and skating for years to finally get flexible enough to do a spread eagle. And even now, when I do too many, I start to get pain in my knees. It takes a lot of hard work, time, and listening to your body! Slow and steady wins the race! Never push your body too hard. You will eventually get there with these tips and stretches!

  • @smolsews3760
    @smolsews3760 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Do you have any tips for doing the stretch against the wall that isn't on the ice? My rink dips down around the edges because the ice isn't great (there's a huge lump in the middle of the ice so the ice has been completely drawn away from the side)

    • @harpieahouse6246

    Thanks for the video! My hips could turn out well enough off ice or by the board, but my knees and ankles need to turn out more. Any tips? Also, my legs could spread much wider by the board than they could off the board. What can I do to have the strength to spread them? Additionally, I’d like to learn the outside pivot you did at 4:49. Will you make a tutorial for that? Thanks in advance.

    • @TheLarryBrown
      @TheLarryBrown ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's easier on the board. On the ice things get slippery. If you have any tightness in your hips the board can overcome that but on the ice such tightness will show up and cause problems. You just need to keep stretching diligently until you get the needed flexibility. Flexibility is not something that comes quickly for most people, it takes consistent work.

    Hi Michelle ❄️ thank you so much for sharing your experience 💗 I’m a contortionist. I started artistic roller in October 2018 and now I’m trying to do everything I’ve been learning on wheels on ice. In a few hours I got to the same level I got on rollers, but I can’t do spread eagles even if I do over splits and middle splits with ease 😭 I just can’t keep my hips turned out on ice, no matter how I try 😢 Is it because I just need more practice on ice and this is too advanced for me? (I can do basic spins, all the three turns and brackets, the waltz jump, the toeloop, the salchow and I’m close to the Flip, both on ice and on rollers). Thanks again! Have a nICE skating day! 🥰🤗❄️💪🏻

    • @TheLarryBrown
      @TheLarryBrown ปีที่แล้ว

      You must have something wrong in your head on how to do it. If you're a contortionist then you must have all the flexibility you need, so you're doing something wrong. I video myself and I can usually see where I'm wrong easily. Otherwise, you should get some private instruction and a good instructor should get you going. It could be something like your skates aren't sharp, or they are sharpened incorrectly, or a blade is misaligned, or you haven't yet learned to use an outside edge and you should, or you're trying to skate from your toe when you should be skating from your heel, could be something easy. In a case like that a coach could be helpful.

      How's that spread eagle looking now? I used to be a ballet dancer as young but can't hold the open position on the ice. I'm guessing I need more strength?

    Where is your balance mostly at when doing this move? I really struggle with putting the other foot down when trying this move away from the wall.

    • @TheLarryBrown
      @TheLarryBrown ปีที่แล้ว

      It's similar to riding a bike. As long as the bike is moving forward, somehow you are able to balance easily on just those narrow tires. To practice, work on the wall and practice pulling your self on the wall and then gliding without holding on. If you can learn that way to glide five seconds, then you're getting better.

    You said u can teach your students in 2-3 days, may I know how many times a week ur student have classes im 18 and I just stared recently and I just have one 1 hour class per week, is that too little?

    • @ellieisnotonline
      @ellieisnotonline 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stephanie Halim how recently? I started skating in January (I turned 18 last month) and at first I only practised when I went to my classes once a week. I was unable to improve as fast as I do now when I skate 2-3 times a week. It really depends on how quickly you want to improve. Hope this helps

    • @TheLarryBrown
      @TheLarryBrown ปีที่แล้ว

      1 hour class per week is ok until you get to higher levels. More germane to the issue is practice time. If you skated four hours every week in addition to that one hour class, you would get better.

      When stretching, you need to point your toes out a FULL 180 DEGREES. Not 179, a FULL 180 DEGREES. Do that several minutes every day for several weeks and you will develop the flexibility needed.
