i can do it off ice right all seems well yesterday i tried doing it ice lol nope when i landed i belly flopped on the ice and now i have a huge bruise on my hip good times good times
@@thithanhphuongnguyen6539 ofcourse it works but only if you put hard efford in your practice. And you have to keep in mind that figure skates are athletes so if you are not fit and properly stretched and warmed up before stepping on the ice you may not be able to land a single axel.
Would be super helpful to make a basics series but instead of just a tutorial, like, Why You're Not Getting Your Backward Crossovers Right, and you and your students demonstrate some common mistakes in that basic move that beginners wouldn't easily realize they're doing wrong. Because I think there are plenty of tutorials on how to do this-and-that basic, but really what they need is to know what to look out for. The feeling is always like, why am I getting this wrong. Plus points if you end up having like a third skater who's just in her alphas or betas and she learns along with the rest of us. Ooh, and maybe your viewers can send you in their progress videos and you can include them in the next video for like a community building aspect.
Exactly. How the jump is supposed to be done is the easiest thing, but what you're doing wrong and why you can't do it is much more difficult to figure out

Wow, you have really added some new angles on how to land that daunting jump! I am 61 yrs old, starting skating a 26, first lesson at 30, did some axels on the ice (mostly two foot landings). I can do them all day long of the ice, because I can push off the ball of my foot. I will try some of your techniques! I’ve been able to land my axel off ice for a while now and my coach has finally put my in the harness! I have all the basic steps I.e: steps of jump, waltz loop, waltz backspin loop.
Hi Michelle. Thank you. I had my axel years ago but without a coach I'm scared to do it. I've been trying to conquer that fear and have been doing the set-up work for it. I keep cheating and landing on my left foot though, but I'm happy to see that that is called a 1 foot axel, and it is still a bit of progress. Thanks for these exercises !
I'm looong way away from Axel, but working slowly towards it, I would like to highlight the way you explain and teach the jump. I love the simpliest singlest parts where the skater should start from. Absolutely perfect explanation! Thank you Michelle ❤️
Great video Michelle 😍 the basic positions at the start are super important, be patient skaters this ones so different to the other jumps but it’s sooooo worth it! be patient and keep trying it will come 🙂
Omg this was a better tutorial than I ever got when getting private coaching! I mastered double lutz, loop, salcow, and toe before I even made my axel look decent!
I dont really like Sports, never have BUT after watching yuri on ice ive been wanting to try figure skating. Every time i try to jump i twist my ankles, so i went to youtube and to be honest... TH-cam helped alot.
i learned to do an axel when i was 8 and i’m now 14 still unable to skate because of medical issues. i’m trying to relearn all that i could do before so this is very helpful, ty!!
My coach has me doing a waltz-loop-backspin drill to prepare for axel. It's so tricky and awkward! I'm ok doing the waltz-loop, but landing and going right into a backspin is very tricky. It's easier doing just the waltz-backspin. I had trouble doing a clean Axel as a kid, now I'm 31 so it's definitely not any easier haha! I hope I get it get it within the next 6 months or so. Thanks for all the tips, many of these are new for me so I will try them!
I have a good off ice exercise I did and pretty much after I did that and perfect it I managed to do an axel off and and gone after a few tries on ice as well Basically you do a full rotation on the foot you take off on and then do a half rotation onto the foot you’re landing on But make sure you do it fast
