On a quiet night in the bush in Africa, you can actually hear a Defender rust...lol. I had a Series 3 2.6 6cyl Safari 109. Never had a vehicle make me smile so much...or cry...😅
I own a 1966 88” Series 2A Land Rover, that was still in daily use on a cattle ranch here in Central California. It’s original chassis and bulkhead are rust free. It leaks, it is slow , it is very noisy, it is not comfortable, it is difficult to drive, It is perfect! I have owned many nice cars in my 65 years, but none get the attention or is as much fun as my old Landy.

I LOVE my P400 HSE. I'm 57, my Ranger Tremor was terrible for road trips. Like you mentioned, it's about your use case scenario. Jeep is more capable off road but I need to road trip several times a year 1300 miles over a weekend, and tow a 22' travel trailer. Jeep or Bronco wouldn't work. Defender is great off road here in the Blue Ridge Mountains, even with 20" wheels. No sharp rocks Tommy. Can't wait to see more Defender content.
Going through the carfax’s of the ones currently for sale. It’s crazy how many of them have 2-3 previous owners before 20k miles. Probably a combination of people realizing 2 doors aren’t for them, the payment isn’t for them, and the trips to the dealer for repairs isn’t for them. Looking at the reports, they seem to be chasing gremlins with most of them.

What do you expect from TFL when it comes to Land Rover? I watch them for entertainment but watch others for good honest reviews. A friend bought a defender 2 years ago even after the negativities from TFL and he was very satisfied with his purchase and was glad he didn't listen to them even until now
The expectation with the LC is that you will lift it & put larger tyres on. I have a 300 series (you dont get them in the US or the UK) & it was one of the first things I did with it.
@@jerryfrench2981 and Toyota will use that to void your warranty if you have driveline/suspension/chassis issues. Expecting more ground clearance than a Subaru for the stock vehicle is not asking much.
@@husshardan3511 You can go the 2 inch lift & 7% increase in tyre size & it wont void your warranty. Have your lift done by someone like ARB & you wont have any problems. I'm also insured with Toyota who had no problems with the mods done. They are listed on the policy.
@@JerryFrench-v2z Page 14 in the warranty manual specifically states the warranty does not cover any damage or failure as a result of vehicle alteration. You lift your LandCruiser - you have altered and modified it and Toyota can deny a warranty claim. This is why it is super lame that Toyota did not give it sufficient clearance from the start.
These are growing on me, I actually know of two in my neighborhood within a few blocks of each other, one is a mint green with the steelies, and another one is the blue of the 110 you guys had. Apparently the people with the blue one really like it, because they also have a white 110.
I just picked up a 2022 L663 that still had 2 years left on the warranty for less than half of what they want a new bronco sasquatch for. So far we had to replace the windshield due to a leak under warranty - but other than that its been flawless.
I put A/T tires on my GX460 and every time I took it to the car wash they would put tire shine on them. I kept telling them not to as it just attracts dirt when you drive it off road but they never listened so I just stopped requesting that. Love that green color on the Defender. I rented a 4 door Bronco Sasquatch with the soft top for a weekend and man the top on that thing is an engineering afterthought. You can't open it fully in the back and there is nothing to keep it open if you're trying to load or unload the back cargo area. Then along the sides it really isn't attached to the frame of the roof at all. In a cross wind I remember seeing huge gaps open up that you could stick your entire arm into (you can also do this when the vehicle is parked). I'm not a fan of top off/down driving because it is typically either too hot or too cold and then there is the risk of overexposure (sunburn, skin cancer etc). No thanks, I'd rather have a roof over my head, which brings me to the Bronco hard top and the reports of creaks and rattles, a common complaint I hear from Jeep owners as well. That would drive me nuts, constantly hearing strange noises while driving. I couldn't deal with that. So, the Bronco and Wrangler for me are a no-go. Ford should make a hard top version with a non-removable roof. I would be interested in that.
Yes ALL Defenders of any spec come with Low Range and Terrain Response. Super capable even in the most basic spec. The plating next to the bonnet is called checker-plating. The Bronco isn’t “really” a convertible. Yeah you can take roof panels out. But the whole roof doesn’t fold away. And who wants a convertible anyway - no one? I don’t think any of us make our buying decisions based on your reviews - but we love watching them.
I'm very happy you got this 90, I can't wait to see how it does off road. Bishop and Rook out of MN and the UK would be I am sure happy to sell you an old defender, they have a bunch. You guys should do some work with them too. Would love to see you compare it to an old 90 defender with a diesel 200 or 300 engine.
Even though they took some of the beastliness out of the new Defender in favor of modern convenience, I like the new Defender. It has a great look for sure. It's more off-road capable than 90% of other vehicles on the market. You can give it to your wife to drive and she's not mad. It's a well rounded, off-road capable vehicle.
I prefer the right hand drives, I'll put the money into a 90 and a110 project I have. We drive on the left side of the road in Dominica(not the DR) but besides that they were designed to be right hand drives with engine and transmission offset to the left. Better balance and more footwell space for the driver and middle front seat passenger

@@michaelhalstead64 Apparently yes. I haven't done it myself but have heard from other US owners that its possible - and not only that but it doesn't void the warranty.

@@michaelhalstead64 Yes, bought a GAP tool for my new 90, and it works great. I would not even in my dreams buy a new Land Rover Defender but I would love to own a land rover defender with 300tdi. This was very popular in Asia and put to lot of torture and come home with a smile on your face.
now i need you to put ashcroft atb's in the 110 and take it offroad and let us know your verdict... have a 110 galvanised chassis and galvanised bulkhead 1986 and going strong swapped the old n/a diesel now though for a td5 best choice so far the 200 and 300 tdi are magnificent and durable. the new discovery named defender is way to techy like the grenadier to much electonic dohikities.
I always wonder why the North American Spec (NAS) Land Rover Defenders from the 1990s are so valuable. I really don't think it's because of the left-hand drive because you can get plenty of cheap left-hand drive Defenders from Continental Europe and Africa, especially the ones produced by Santana in Spain, which are less than right-hand drive ones. I think it's mostly the V-8, but I'm different from other people because I would prefer a I-4 Diesel over the V-8 any day for fuel economy and lower maintenance costs.
Between salt lake and Denver did y'all catch the land rover caravan of test vehicles? Friends of mine were road tripping out that way and say a big convoy of them all camouflaged. They ended up running into them from Vegas all the way back to Denver and pikes peak.
Wow that price and no off-road goodies ... im still excited about the Defender 90 tho!! I've been wanting you guys to do a 90. Hey I still hope one day you'll get another white 110 and do that series. I was stoked about that and wish it had worked out like you guys ORIGINALLY planned as an overlander.
Unlike many modern Land Rovers, the older ones are almost bulletproof, very capable off-road, and reliable. Would love to loan it to you for a direct comparison video!
Something I find interesting, that has briefly been covered here, is the sad story of GM... They had a product for the sudo luxury/ off road market in Hummer, and they were about 10 years too early to the market. I would almost guarantee if they brought back the H2 (on the revised Tahoe platform) and the H3 (on the revised Colorado platform), they wouldn't be able to keep them on dealer lots. The H-ev is a flop because electric cars (as a whole) are a flop, not because the brand is entirely unloved.
Roman I like where you’re at mentally these days, you’re a chill easy going and fun perspective to watch- cool you’re enjoying the time with your son and acknowledging that. Very curious how your experience with this LR goes, your last experience threw me way off the defender path and years later I’m now in an R1S after a couple other less satisfying vehicles. You guys are the gold standard in this stuff, even when I disagree. Thanks for bringing us great content for so long!
You're blaming the 20" wheels that you spec'ed? That's not the fault of the tire. Your highway mileage is most likely affected by the fact that the Defender has the aerodynamics of a brick wall.
good for you man, I don't even have a car haha :/ and I've been working so hard to buy a car, but this overpricing from companies and dealerships are nuts. Enjoy the ride! pretty nice ones! So that old defender is a diesel one? how do you deal with that in US?
Can you stand in the back seat with the sunroof open? I tried that with the cloth top and there is plenty of room for doing that, but the cloth top was discontinued :(

Love the color
I am so jealous I would love one or both of those lol
would have been a way cooler rig, if options with the 6 seater config.
We all miss Toby. You should take it to him to see if he notices anything after the 10k miles.
Booyah 👊🏽 😁 👍🏽 🇺🇸
Between salt lake and Denver did y'all catch the land rover caravan of test vehicles? Friends of mine were road tripping out that way and say a big convoy of them all camouflaged. They ended up running into them from Vegas all the way back to Denver and pikes peak.
I’d like to hear the backstory on why it was traded in so soon at 10,000 miles.
That little guy is pretty cool
Wow that price and no off-road goodies ... im still excited about the Defender 90 tho!! I've been wanting you guys to do a 90. Hey I still hope one day you'll get another white 110 and do that series. I was stoked about that and wish it had worked out like you guys ORIGINALLY planned as an overlander.
Unlike many modern Land Rovers, the older ones are almost bulletproof, very capable off-road, and reliable. Would love to loan it to you for a direct comparison video!
Please contact us at info@tflcar.com
@@TFLcarI'd loan you my Grenadier for that comparison as well.
Great work lads, look forward to seeing more of this
LR3 4.4v8 Here, love it still every day.❤
Great vehicles
Needs a 2in lift
Where did the l405 go?
I am watching from Edinburgh actually 😀
The options are not even close. I love my 2021 Defender 90 X Dynamic SE. brilliant off-road. The others are rattly and cheap.
GX has alot of engine issues!!! and really you can't take that where a defender goes, plus the inside is so much better than a GX
Nearly perfect. Should have the front bench/jump seat and no sun roof, then it would be perfect. Just add a TAXA trailer and travel.
Roman says thanks for the kind comment!
The perfect car for TH-cam and TikTok influencers
This is what I really wanted for the longest time. I wasn't crazy about the new Bronco interior materials.
Your observations about the ride quality at 13:45 may be as much a factor of the LT tires (BFG vs. OEM Goodyears) as it is coil springs vs. air.
Glad you went back to trying. the Defender.
20:45 US road train?
That classic defender is one of the vehicles I have always wanted to own, the other being classic FJ.
I once went back out with female who tried to knife me. Some how this seems more self-destructive.
You're blaming the 20" wheels that you spec'ed? That's not the fault of the tire.
Your highway mileage is most likely affected by the fact that the Defender has the aerodynamics of a brick wall.
2 Dr. is the pick! Better job this time!
Nice defender! Love the 2 door
good for you man, I don't even have a car haha :/ and I've been working so hard to buy a car, but this overpricing from companies and dealerships are nuts. Enjoy the ride! pretty nice ones!
So that old defender is a diesel one? how do you deal with that in US?
Can you stand in the back seat with the sunroof open? I tried that with the cloth top and there is plenty of room for doing that, but the cloth top was discontinued :(
Is that a Ford Lightning logo tattooed on your leg?
27:55 no, but i have thought they would make a have decent kit car candidate.
Great that Edinburgh got a mention ❤❤❤🏴🏴🏴
Big shout out to Tommy for mentioning my home city and pronouncing it correctly ! , from a TFL fan for over 10 years !.

I have a 2006 10 seat 110 TD5 Station Wagon, I may sell.
May? See that means you don't really want to. I have a 2013 110, you will have to pry it out of my dying hands letting it go.
I do wish LR would offer some wheel and tyre options that make sence for the intended purpose.
