It makes the Empire seem large, cold, and impersonal. Which it most certainly is. And gives the viewer a look into all different kinds of life in the galaxy. From the wealthy, the poorer which seems like the majority, and even the lives of lower ranking regional Imperials.
I absolutely love how Major Partagaz pits his supervisors against one another to see whose talents will stand out amongst them. Phenomenal storytelling!
I love this type of Star Wars, I wish everyone would give it a chance and just watch it for what it is. They would know how good it is and how this connecting more of the star wars universe
This has been my absolute favourite Star Wars series so far. Obviously we all love the nostalgia and familiarity of the Skywalkers and the mysticism of the Force, but keeping the universe tightly wrapped around Luke and his family, as well as other Force users, makes the universe feel small. There is so much galaxy and so many more people who lived through this history who we need to meet, and who we will relate to as the poor and oppressed who fight to survive.
I actually kind of love when it feels small for those specific reasons. I’ve also loved the Rogue One-esque approach because it really shows the Empire and the Rebellion for everyone else. Vader as an unstoppable force of nature, not Dad. The Empire as the immovable object and dictator of reality - oppressive as it may be.
Speak for yourself...Not all of us love the "nostalgia and familiarity" of the Skywalkers. For that very reason, however, I have to agree with you that it is very refreshing to have Andor provide an alternative kind of Star Wars storytelling.
Have to say it: this was the Star Wars Prequels I wanted to see. The adult story. The story that shows how the galaxy devolved into a totalitarian state.
Yularen! Absolutely love the way they've nailed the vicious mystique of the ISB, what they say they are versus what they do. And Anton Lesser is devouring the dialogue
How about the irony of Syril's mom calling out his high collar as saying he was looking to stand out and be noticed only to end the episode on the shot of him being lost in a sea of uniformity.
This shows it fantastic. Shot with such cinematic flair that it feels like a proper movie. This also seems the most grounded in reality than any other StarWars production. The production is so we’ll done that you can actually feel the tension and oppression depicted on screen. This is a master piece in my opinion.
That scene of Andor getting arrested and charged gave me bad dreams...not nightmares exactly but I found myself replaying the scene in my sleep trying to figure out a way he could have phrased his words differently so he'd be let off...reminiscent of a few experiences I've had with bad-natured/corrupt police who had such a hard-on to find a criminal that they would turn you into one(whether you were innocent or not) just to meet their quota and "get their fix"...
The first time we saw the offices, it reminded me of the TVA in Loki. Probably a common inspiration. But I love the "not quite" jacket and tie look of their uniform, really unique.
You made a really good point regarding the mining site being filled with water and covered up by the empire. We did see those hexagonal structures in the water surrounded by green landscapes in one of the trailers that can be deduced to be the prison we later see andor in during the same trailer (due to the waterfalls in the background of the prison catwalk). It could be possible that the Kenari was refitted as a prison world for the empire.
The "ornament" hanging in Mavva's house is now sporting a brake disc from a motorcycle. The swirls and holes are for brake dust removal and heat dissipation.
I'm glad someone else caught that. With how incredibly reclusive the Chiss Ascendency is, they probably aren't sending an agent to essentially the Bureau of Weights and Measures.
I know so many Star Wars fans that won’t watch anything by Disney Star Wars due to the last three movie but I’ve begged them to give it a go because it’s SOOOO GOOODDD. Watch it with my dad who’s 67 and we both enjoy it immensely.
I Find Andor a product of rebel and imp reval , it is nice how they were able to bling bling up, get 6 years, and be a pain in the back-side throughout the years.
I think that Andor is quite possibly one of the best productions 'Star Wars' has done so far, apart from the Original trilogy. Have been watching your videos for a little while now and I really love your attention to detail and energy. Have subscribed for sure.
The action figures on his shelf at 0:28 look like Phase 1 Clone Troopers. You can see them using the DC-15 heavy blaster that the clones use, and the one closest to the camera looks like it has the fun of Phase 1 Clones.
I got AOTC the Clone training room vibes from that Bureau of Standards floor. Also, not sure it was intentional, but the skiff that Senta rides reminded me of the skiff accessory for Luke way back in 1995 with the POTF toy line. What if Clea is Cassian's lost sister????
The action figures, i think those are clonetroopers, probably phase 1, cause not only do they have like a lil pointy thingy at the tip of their heads, but also it will make more sense for Baby Syril Karn to have republic soldiers than stormies
Didn't realise they shot scenes in the McLaren technology centre, that's pretty cool. Imagine if Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris had cameos in the background.
00:05 For those outside the USA, the country is ruled by the car industry. It is a car-dominated society where all public and pedestrian modes of transport have been diminished.
So many good scenes in this episode! The one that impressed me the most was the meeting between Vel and Kleya. Both women were almost unrecognizable compared to the original impression we had of them. It's incredible how these rebels can hide in plain sight.
Those "Imperial actions figures" in Syril's room are Phase 1 *Republic* Clone Troopers. They have helmet fins, and are holding DC-15s. Pro-tip: Stormtroopers do not use long rifles. Scout Troopers use E-11s, which look nothing like DC-15s.
Non-cannon now, but Ord Mantell had it own adventure in the 1983 radio drama “Rebel Mission to Ord Mantell” Funny thing is, it was a mission on funding the rebellion. Non-cannon now, but the radio dramas were good covering before and after ANH.
6:27 Most likely a Pantoran, not a Chiss. Pantorans are way more in the Imperial community. The Chiss are very disconnected from the Empire, they're basically China to the Empire's Rome. Thrawn is an extreme exception, according to the books.
I got some Hunger Games vibes more this episode, but here and there in other episodes. Or maybe that author took inspiration from other SW content. Not sure the timing. I don't think Andor/SW is inspired by HG, but just there are similar themes, especially the rich people in fancy clothes with fancy food and lives vs. people struggling in the rest of the world.
The knock is actually drawn directly from Mexican folklore. It is used both as an insult as it is for taunting. Lets just say it might be something you knock on your car horn angrily at another driver for doing something stupid. But also for taunting someone, or telling them to f* off.
I doubt that the one blue alien is Chiss. The Thrawn books make it fairly clear he is the only one that the Empire is involved with, with the rest of the species almost being considered a mythical story
And none has pointed out that the bureau of standards, which closely resembles the "Dept. of weights and measures" in some states, resembles The Central Bureaucracy from Futurama? Worker bees at their best.
Yeah I thought so at first, then at a certain point I was like - yeah, pretty sure I walked in that exact spot :D. I went to london years ago and got to visit someone living in the barbican. It's a fascinating complex.
I was thinking they look like the ID model seeker droids. So far we've seen an ID9 and ID10 in things like Battlefront II, Rebels, Obi-wan, etc. The viper model probe droids are the ones we see on Hoth in ESB and in Solo (the 11-3K). Though it could the Separatist probe droid from The Clone Wars, though it doesn't look round enough for that tbh.
Fun fact. Ord Mantell is also shown in Star Wars The Old Republic MMO. The game is not canon I know, but the planet is, so what we see there takes place somewhere on Ord Mantell, but it's not stated where on the planet this takes place afaik.
Yup. Almost looked like an old school ray gun of some sort, and that certainly appeared to be a lightsaber underneath it. Maybe the kyber crystal he gave Andor powers it?
Perfection this series is. booooooom looking for this! K2so hype 😂 even though it’s not k2so. The acting of the emperial admiral (can’t remember the name sorry) is amazing
coming back to watch these bcause andor is amazing. I dont think they messed up the aurebesh charges on the prison sentences. I just think the empire doesnt care and they were making stuff up
The absolute best thing about this is they managed to make the empire intimidating and scary as hell again.
No mum jokes in sight
It makes the Empire seem large, cold, and impersonal. Which it most certainly is. And gives the viewer a look into all different kinds of life in the galaxy. From the wealthy, the poorer which seems like the majority, and even the lives of lower ranking regional Imperials.

The actor played him very well
Every actor is nailing everything. This is better than what a lot of the premier networks make these days.

There's an alien guard at the imperial court room place which is rare to see alien guards under imperial rule which usually consist of humans.

Chiss aren't common in the known galaxy so it would be interesting if it was. He could be a Pantoran though from Pantora
I'm glad someone else caught that. With how incredibly reclusive the Chiss Ascendency is, they probably aren't sending an agent to essentially the Bureau of Weights and Measures.
Duros, too, like Cad Bane, could be an option. But definitely NOT Chiss.
Wulf’s character was also the opening narrator of every Clone Wars episode.
