I worked on the crew that kept the litter, fallen rock , etc picked up on the BlueRidge Parkway, one summer back in late 1960's. We had a giant vacuum on a truck, with a hand guided hose down on the ground. It didn't pick up much dirt and sand because in never came that close the ground. It would pick up glass bottles, paper, dead grass and weeds, anything. It would pick up hay, I'm sure. I enjoyed watching your build.

As far as picking up hay, be sure you don't suck up a lot of dirt and dust. That is not good for cow or horses. Maybe you could find a way to rake it into the vacuum shoot.

Collecting hay? Sounds like you're going to be building a combine in your near future. Lol
