  • I finally had to give up on my old transformer based Lincoln TIG 250 and step up to an inverter based machine. In this video i unbox an Everlast 250 EX and put it to the test welding a roll cage for the Rovan 450 XLT Frankentrac

Very nice Brian! I’m glad you got a machine you’re really happy with! Nothing beats nice tools. Definitely can be the difference between an enjoyable/good project or a miserable/abandoned project! Look forward to all of the new projects coming up with this!

Thanks Todd, i already started the CAD model of a welded aluminum Kraken battery/rcvr box. The wacky ideas are going to start flowing now! Thanks for checking it out

Great video. I've had my EX250 since 2012. Everlast has made very few changes to this model from then to now, mainly because the design is so good that not much has had to be changed. I had minor issues with the old HF starting, but Everlast updated that on the EX250 years ago with more robust solis state circuitry. Problem solved. Other than that early issue, I've been trouble-free through many projects and repairs, and still working awesome.

Sweet welder. Now we all expect more custom builds haha. That tool really adds to your abilities in your shop. Great looking setup. I have made roll cages out of steel transmission line. But i found it was not strong enough in the end. Hard nose dives caused it to bust apart. And it lookèd good due to using automotive base coat çlear coat. Ill be looking foreward to your next video. Great entertainment bro. Let that kraken rip. 😁😎

Hey Wally, how's the track build going? I'm guessing you've probably got a bit of snow up in your neck of the woods. Spring is coming...eventually.

@RCWalletVacuum yeah, we have been hammered with snow then cold. Now it's single digits every day.
      Spring will come some day..
Ps. I got new wheels. Spikes. Waiting on snail mail and had to get wheel extensions to fit the spike wheels on. Winter prep for eventual summer. No spring here. It's mud season, then breef summer.
Been fun chatting. Stay warm 💥💥🧑‍💻

Very nice welder. I know nothing about welding really. Working as an electrician I used to have to PM and repair some of the real old welders. Mostly cleaning and tightening connections. We had some stir welders that joined sections of Delta and Titan rocket skins together. They were very interesting to watch. We also had some welders that were in like a vacuum chamber and the operator put his arms into sleaves to weld. Kind of like you see with small sand blaster booths. I have no idea why really. I guess to remove the air. They probably use robots now, Who knows.

Thanks RC! It sounds like you got to work on some cool stuff. The vacuum chambers would have been for sure used to prevent atmospheric air contamination, especially O2 and nitrogen. Otherwise you have to shield the hell out of it with argon or helium. Thanks for checking it out buddy

Running a bit cold. Aluminum welds should be much flatter, unlike steel welds that protrude from the surface quite a bit. Better safe than sorry. Less chance of burn-through. With time they will get flatter and you will run it hotter. You should also clean the aluminum parts you are welding with organic solvent or a mild alkaline solution like a strong citrus degreaser and then rinse it. That is a cool-looking cage. I made a rock bouncer cage to fit a Taylor 4-cylinder RC engine and a 3-speed gearbox. The hours I put into it and the frustration from the mess-ups made me get a dog to keep me from going crazy alone in the shop. lol

Hey FPV, yeah i was keeping the amps down do to the gap and mis-matched material sizes. There is quite a bit of welding to do on this roll cage so i'll tune it in as i go, hopefully. Thanks for the info FPV

Awesome set up man! I got exactly the same package deal here in Ontario Canada.
I thought the same about the cart, for the X-mas sale price I had the go for it. I haven't set it up yet, waiting on fluid for the water cooler. It's a beast of a unit and more than I'll ever need. Down the road I'll upgrade to CK torch and different cup sizes.
    Have fun with it !
    👍
The extra blue and red lines and fittings aren't needed for are units correct??? I assume it's if you have a different set up
    🤔? What's your thoughts.

      @RCWalletVacuum  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks buddy! You'll love it. I use a Lincoln Aspect230 at work and i like this Everlast way more. The blue and red hoses are indeed for a different setup. Most new torches, Everlast and CK included use the dinse (i think that is what its called)connectors that snap straight in. Don't skimp (i'm sure you are not)on the coolant, its very important. Enjoy your new welder and thanks for checking out the video
