259 is still expensive for a motherboard these days. However, it always seems like ASRock are the ones to have the best value motherboards in comparison to all the other manufacturers. Amazing how far they've come, I still remember when people used to say avoid ASRock motherboards.

Steel Legend was always good. They made it even better. I am still rocking my Asrock B450M Steel Legend from 2021 and a Ryzen 5 5500 with 4x8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16. I kept the infinity fabric on 1600MHz.

You have to remember with cheaper boards other than taichi. They lack external bclk chip so if you are doing base clock overclocking example on x3d cpu and wanna keep system stable you NEED external bclk chip. And yes Nova doesn't have external bclk chip either. Only taichi line up has it on x870. Just to note this one for all those Nova lovers.

@@6XCcustom It helps with overclocking by separating overclocked parts like CPU baseclock from other components baseclock speeds. Basically helps you get more stable clocks with higher overclocks. When you dont have separate bclk you are forced to stick with same baseclock speed for everyone component. (pcie,sata,m.2 etc uses the same baseclock to sync their speeds etc). The steel legend model doesn't have separate bclk chip. The board works ofc with 9900x3d when ever it comes out. But you will not probably get best out of it. Also you are tied to 100 mhz bclk that is shared between the components. If you stick with default clocks etc its not an issue. If you wanna get more out of the cpu/memory you probably wanna get better board. It's sometimes hard to figure out if the motherboard has it or not. For asrock they put the info on motherboard user manual. Under specifications section there should be something like: Supports ASRock Hyper BCLK Engine But this is just with ASrock. Example Asustek doesn't inform you of the support in their manual etc. And not just that. Sometimes the support level can vary too what parts of the motherboard you can put under separate bclk on what settings. So that said. In the end you most of the times need to find the info from some review site or forum. Or buy the pcb and see on bios or look at the motherboard itself for such chip and how it works with the board.
In terms of look/color, i personally think Asrock stepped up with the this x870 steel legend, compared to previous, i much prefer this new and more cleaner white/silver look over the military pattern look.
I really like that this steel legend isn't some kind of digital camo paint. Its the best looking steel legend so far, and really hard to beat for $230. I love how the Taichi looks. I have used ASRock almost exclusively for the last few years, but they let me down big time when my Z790 board died. They sent me a bad replacement and now won't respond to my emails or tickets. I'll be going back to MSI or Gigabyte next time, Asus burned me years ago with a $1000 dual-socket workstation board and they could release something made of solid unobtainium that would predict the winning lottery numbers and I'd hesitate to buy it.
Awesome video thank you. I have been eyeing up the Asrock x870E Tachi Lite for my next board upgrade. It is one of the few boards that has 6 Sata ports which is important to me because I have a lot of sata drives with a mix of HDD and SSD for my storage needs. Most boards only have 4 sata ports which will not work for me and I do not want to have to resort to a PCI-e card for extra sata ports as that can cause problems sometimes or lower than expected performance.
What you mean only board that do 6400 1:1 ?? Im running on b650m hdv/m.2 its $120 board . And i have seen loads of peeps running it on various b650 mobos . You dont need expensive board right , it all comes down to the cpu's memory controller whatever the mobo is , unless its not a crappy one

My 2 motherboards from gigabyte, the x670e aorus master and the Aorus pro X, can use 6400 MTs ram in 1:1 ratio using 2133 , I am not sure what you mean when you say no other x670 or x670e motherboard offered this🧐
I too have found my X870 Aorus BIOS laggy - but note how I've spent approximately 28 seconds navigating and enabling EXPO in the BIOS, and updated firmware to patch against SinkClose hack, and have then never had to use it again.
I just picked up two X670E Steel Legend boards (Open Box) for 105 each USD. Correction. 155 Ea. that's a lot more than I recalled but still a smoking' deal. Woot Woot!

I find the MSI Tomahawk is the best midrange board. It has 2xM.2 if you choose to abandon the USB4, it has a post code LED and 4 sata ports (which not all X870 have). HWUB also had the best performacne with that board.

Is my understanding correct that the x870e Nova is one of the best x870 chipset boards in terms of value, as it has no line sharing? Are there any other boards with similar value-for-money characteristics?
Does USB4 work during boot? That is, if you connect a USB4 or Thunderbolt 3 dock to it, does the monitor work at boot, and do USB devices such as a keyboard and mouse work at boot? My last experience with Asrock and Thunderbolt was a disaster: the X570 ITX/TB3, where the BIOS doesn't even bother reserving resources to allow any Thunderbolt devices to actually work even once the OS booted. So I'm wary that these boards might be similarly useless at it.

Hey Bryan, consider creating new X58 content, perhaps a modern update with NVME, Wi-Fi 7, and an optimal GPU such as an RTX 2070 or RTX 3060, as the prices for this hardware are now more affordable. With the release of Windows 24H2, I've found that performance is better than ever. Also, highlight any pros and cons.
The ignorance for X870E Nova Wifi is truly astounding...... Edit: I also agree with you on Gigabyte laggy bios and not only specifically with new x870/E boards. Once you are running in full UEFI mode with no legacy options enabled like on my Aorus B550 Pro V2...soon replaced by X870E Nova Wifi, and 9800X3D :) ......it just gets really unresponsive. You click with your mouse and it just stays there with lag. Otherwise it is a great board from a longterm using over 2 years.
The Taichi boards are documented as E-ATX boards, but I cannot find from the boards' documentation the actual width of the boards. I'm trying to find out if the boards would fit in a particular case that indicates it supports E-ATX but under 280mm. Can you please tell me the width of the Taichi Lite board?

hardware unboxed just reviewed 21 x870 motherboards. the 210$ asrock x870 pro rs wifi has lower pcb temps and higher cinebench score than the steel legend. can u do a review on that?
my B550 Steel Legend has a 7-Segment Display for Error Codes. ASRock should keep these on their Enthusiast boards. why did they remove it and only have it on the Taichi now?

I need a ASRock mobo for my 9950x, can someone help? I will use 2 NVME (1 gen 5, 1 gen 4), one soundbar and one GPU. I don't care about SATA, 1 port is okay. The board color need to be silver/white.
I still use x1 and x4 pcie slots and ASROCK are worst mainboards in that regard. I don't need shared pcie with x16 slot or that x2 slot. I used in the past ASROCK mainboards but last 2 generations have no use to me in any way. I could use risers but I don't really enjoy having wires hanging all over inside the case. ASROCK should ask people before building the boards and I think they will have bigger sales.

Oh Bryan ! *I just LOVE ASRock ! They are my Nr.1 . I build some 50 systems a year, and they ALL have ASRock motherboards ! They just ROCK !* And their costumer service is TOP-Notch ! ( Well, in Holland at least ! don't know about other country's ) Also ASRock GPU's are great, so 90% of all my builds are AMD/Radeon systems ! No Intel or Nvidia for me !!!
X870 and B840 are such examples of scummy naming scheme, looks like their excuse is probably OEMs wanting em to bigger number better, unless ofc, B840 boards got beefier VRMs by default, instead of some weaker ones in A620.

I'm seeing $250-300 X870s with WORSE PCIE connectivity (X16 + X4 vs X16+X1+X1) than my 4 year old B550 M-atx board. It's so stupid, I just want to be able to run up to two GPUs (X16 PCIE 5/4+ X4 PCIE4), one NVME and 4 SATA, and still have one spare X4 set lanes but they're throwing them at more useless M.2 slots oh my god

6400 1:1 infinity fabric 2133. I find it only works on the better boards (if you have a good cpu). Due to the implementation of the traces.
The “taichi Carrara” is also a beautiful board. X670E board.
The Asrock boards not having 3 PCI-E slots miffs me!
The ALC4082 isn't a new codec, my 2 years old X670E Hero uses the same chip (though with an ESS ES9218 Quad-DAC added to it)

Anyone knows what happened to Asrock in Australia? Series like Steel Legend seem to be completely absent from all retailers.
IMO the OG x870e Taichi looks completely different and ALOT better.
If you are a student you can get the x870 Steel Legend for around 200$ right now. Easily the best deal on next gen motherboard

My last experience with Asrock and Thunderbolt was a disaster: the X570 ITX/TB3, where the BIOS doesn't even bother reserving resources to allow any Thunderbolt devices to actually work even once the OS booted. So I'm wary that these boards might be similarly useless at it.

Hey Bryan, consider creating new X58 content, perhaps a modern update with NVME, Wi-Fi 7, and an optimal GPU such as an RTX 2070 or RTX 3060, as the prices for this hardware are now more affordable. With the release of Windows 24H2, I've found that performance is better than ever. Also, highlight any pros and cons.

What about shorting protection?under/over voltage/surge, static current protrection... my latest 2 gigabytes died 2 month ago due to shorting

Edit: I also agree with you on Gigabyte laggy bios and not only specifically with new x870/E boards. Once you are running in full UEFI mode with no legacy options enabled like on my Aorus B550 Pro V2...soon replaced by X870E Nova Wifi, and 9800X3D :) ......it just gets really unresponsive. You click with your mouse and it just stays there with lag. Otherwise it is a great board from a longterm using over 2 years.
Mortar b550 has 5g 2.5g ? but it should have both because some cameras only allow 2.5g and phones and some other things maybe a fridge .
The Taichi boards are documented as E-ATX boards, but I cannot find from the boards' documentation the actual width of the boards. I'm trying to find out if the boards would fit in a particular case that indicates it supports E-ATX but under 280mm. Can you please tell me the width of the Taichi Lite board?

hardware unboxed just reviewed 21 x870 motherboards. the 210$ asrock x870 pro rs wifi has lower pcb temps and higher cinebench score than the steel legend. can u do a review on that?
can check it out, but cinebench scores are going to vary and can even be over a thousand points on 7950x/9950x on the same board.

my B550 Steel Legend has a 7-Segment Display for Error Codes. ASRock should keep these on their Enthusiast boards.
why did they remove it and only have it on the Taichi now?
its also on their top flagship phantam gaming series, x870e nova wifi on AMD & Z790 nova wifi for intel

Interesting, I've never spent more than 200 on a board.
I still use x1 and x4 pcie slots and ASROCK are worst mainboards in that regard. I don't need shared pcie with x16 slot or that x2 slot. I used in the past ASROCK mainboards but last 2 generations have no use to me in any way. I could use risers but I don't really enjoy having wires hanging all over inside the case. ASROCK should ask people before building the boards and I think they will have bigger sales.
The asrock nova seems like THE board, but already got a steel legend x670e so no need for me.

support as can use, but stable or not depends on the 800 series brand & how they tune it. Its the same as before on x670 series release, 6000 ram also can use, but not all stable until later bios version update
@@arthur_pd Indeed in fact hardware unboxed has a video were they test more than 20 X870s motherboards and many of them can reach 8000 MHz out of the box, so for this two to reach 6400 must be a most!

X870 and B840 are such examples of scummy naming scheme, looks like their excuse is probably OEMs wanting em to bigger number better, unless ofc, B840 boards got beefier VRMs by default, instead of some weaker ones in A620.

No, here this board price is 300 EU. But you can get X870 Pro Rs non wifi with 255 EU. An all benchmark show x870 PRO RS beats the Steel Legend.

Why pay much if the other same brand better or same performance. Steel Legend 300 EU, Pr RS 260EU ( 280EU). Also if you can find B650 Steel Legend Wifi, tht board is the best b650 board.

I'm seeing $250-300 X870s with WORSE PCIE connectivity (X16 + X4 vs X16+X1+X1) than my 4 year old B550 M-atx board. It's so stupid, I just want to be able to run up to two GPUs (X16 PCIE 5/4+ X4 PCIE4), one NVME and 4 SATA, and still have one spare X4 set lanes but they're throwing them at more useless M.2 slots oh my god
