Air Cooling! This was my very first PC, and I needed that reliability that would make it last for years ☺️ I paired a Deepcool Assassin 4S on my 7800x3d, and for a CPU that is supposed to run hot, I've never seen go above the 70°C on fairly heavy loads. Most of the time, we're speaking in the 60s here, barely above my GPU temps
He can! Or should I say, I can! That said, there’s probably 5 videos on the channel now with me talking. I don’t like to make a habit of it, but when the right video calls for knowledge and all… 🫦
The first Luiquid AIO I bought had a pump failure. After that I bought the Luiquid AIO again and after 3 months it leaked (luckily nothing burned). After all that, I switched to air cooling, which amazed me how well it cools my CPU. So I'm in the team Air Cooling. Btw Matt, great video!
AIOs are cheap watercooling options. They are made cheap and affordable, easy to install, but the components will be also lesser quality and more prone to failure. Custom loop is a whole different level, but it requires more technical skills and a lot more money. Air cooling is good enough for now, can't speak for furure though.
@@Hullbreachdetected with cpu elements getting smaller, so its their power consumption/heat generation. or to be exact, while they remains size and power consumption, their performance is gained (at least in theory). but sure , with 10-12 core+ (overclocked) monster working under full load (rendering etc) you can expect heat too.
Man, that's very unlucky. I was using aircooler before because they're cheaper. Now with AIO, it's still going strong after a year no prob. Prior to using AIO, I made sure I have the necessary knowledge like keeping pump speed constant, rad position, and pump orientation.
I just have to get this out there. Some of the systems you showed in this video are... pure works of art. I mean HOLY SHIT. I literally WOWed several times in this video. They aren`t custom loop or themed, but god damn are those some pure sexy looking OE PC`s. Hats off. The videomaking was also top notch.

I upgraded my pc recently from i7 3770k to R9 9750x. When I brought my old pc to upgrade, I decided to have liquid cooling for my as it has been my dream since 2013 but vendor suggested me to go for air cooling. He said that all workstations with R9 he has sold were equipped with air coolers and in commercial workspaces, people always choose air cooling over AIO. With heavy heart I went with Deepcool AK620 as per his suggestion and that cooler looked damn cool on my old Coolermaster Haf 912 cabinet with its industrial / tank like look. 4 months down, I am way more happy.
Tenho o AK620 Digital, um show a parte, saí de um LT520, Kraken x63, vou me manter no air cooler, estou visando o Assassin IV, quero pegar para testes.
I went back to air cooling earlier this year when I did a case swap, and I put in a Thermalright phantom spirit Evo. My temperatures are relatively the same, and I definitely like the easy installation and reliability of air cooling.
hey, I'm using air cooler also and I have a question to you. as explained in 6:36 do you have a fan before your air cooler or not? do you think is it effecting the cpu temperature?
@@mehmetilkerbuldu8497My case is a Fractal Design North, and I have two 120 fans at the top. I would say 90% of my top fans sit over and behind the air cooler, and I don't think it impacts anything. I put in a 9800x3d, and it basically doesn't go past 55° C.

Ohhhh the Assassin VC! That vapour chamber is very unique. I wanted to touch base on that in this video, but air coolers with a VC are not easy to come by (or largely known about) so perhaps I’ll make a specific video on those later. Either way, sounds like a great build which I’m sure you’re gonna love!
When I got a new custom built R9 7900X3D based system from my local computer shop, I got a Air Cooler for the CPU. I had asked about a AIO but was advised against it, for a few reasons one being if the pump fails then its back to the shop to get the whole AIO replaced. And so far the air cooler is handling my system very well.

So so so helpful, ive been trying to find this sort of video for ages, then boom! Mr Matt Lee comes in clutch again! Im going to be building my first PC soon, im an illustrator so photoshop is a priority so im going 9700x (was going to be 14700k but AMD has sunk that ship). Using a Dan A3 wood edition and Proart 4070S, i think im going with the NhD15 g2... Apparently it fits! Itll be overkill for the cpu but itll be reliable and quiet so fingers crossed it all goes well!
Well that sounds like a pretty awesome build if you ask me! Very excited for you. Also, stoked that the video hit the spot for information you needed, that’s great to hear! Enjoy your PC DIY adventures, take your time and indulge in the process ☕️
My rig started out with a Corsair H60 that eventually broke after rough transport of my rig. So I slapped in a NH-D15 and love everything about it. Beefy, no-nonsense cooler. I'm only interested in liquid cooling that doesn't involve fans.
I think one thing to consider with AIO leakage is that *if you don't abuse the tubing connections they probably won't leak*. This applies to pretty much anything that has tubing or cables. Don't put tension on cables at right angles, don't do it with pipes either, you'll probably be fine.
Absolutely loved this video Matt! Relaxing as fuck, as usual, but I loved the knowledge delivery here as well. Most of it I already knew but your videos are always such a joy to watch so I enjoyed hearing it nonetheless.
This comment is wholesome! Thanks so much. Appreciate you being here for the support and I’m stoked you enjoyed watching it, aside from the knowledge you already had. That’s awesome 🤜🤛
Currently use a Deepcool Ls720 360 all in one and had an NZXT 240 aio before that. Haven't had any type of failure or bad performance. Both have been superb.
I bought my first AIO (a 240mm from ID Cooling) a little over a year ago and the price, performance and installation was all lightyears ahead of my last attempt at water cooling, a short-lived custom loop back in the LGA 775 days. Still, I missed the simplicity and reliablity of an air cooler, so when I switched out of the A4-H2O I went with the Peerless Assassin 120 Mini. Pretty capable little guy.
🙌 I wish I could upload more than once a week (on a Monday) but they take an entire week to film and produce so it’s just not possible 😭 either way, I’m glad you’re here for every video!
I've long thought that an AIO was pretty necessary for high performing PCs. On my most recent PC, I decided to give a good Air cooler a shot. 13700KF/4070Ti w/ a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120SE. 2 fans in push-pull on the ac. I've been very impressed by how well it can cool that miniature space heater (13700K). I really only game on my PC, so it's more than enough for that. In a sustained 250W pull, it will throttle just a hair, but once the fans have ramped up, it will maintain very well. The price/performance of TR's products are unbeatable I believe.
I greatly prefer air, but on my most recent build it made more sense to go AIO, so I bought a Thermalright Frozen Notte 240. My Ryzen 5700x3D never clears 60C under full load, and the fans never have to spool up to keep up. That computer stays quieter than the background noise of the house at full speed because of my airflow/AIO optimisation I went for when building it, and I love it.
I went Team Project Zero this year and settled on Lian Li with their Hydroshift AIO. It looks and performs beyond my expectations plus it fits the near cableless design of my MSI tower.
Thank you double 0 Matt. You hit the target on this video. Very well explained. I have noticed how much you use Asus and Noctua products. I love both brands but especially with Asus's TUF series. I like air cooling over AIO's but that was the best explanation of AIO positioning.
I’m glad you took the time to absorb the radiator AIO positioning too. It’s one of the more important parts and shouldn’t be misconstrued by other, less direct information 🙂
@@Mr_Matt_Lee I am more team air cooling, especially Noctua rather than team AIO. I did purchase the Corsair H100 for my Z97 white Sabranco TUF motherboard of which I wanted to keep that mobo pristine due to it being a limited edition but like an idiot as I was installing the H100 it came crashing down onto the intel pins. So ended my days of the H100 and so the death of my Sabertooth
I rep both Team Air and Team Liquid. I use a Deep Cool LS520 AIO top mounted on my current gaming PC. It's got a Core i5 12600k cpu, 32 gigs of ram, and a RTX 4070. I use a Deep Cool AS500 Plus air tower cooler on my second PC. It's got a Ryzen 7 5800X cpu, 32 gigs of ram, and a RTX 3070. Both coolers do and excellent job at keeping the temps down. The aio did take more time to install. Besides that both are good options. It comes down to preference. Performance or aesthetics. I like a little of both in my builds, both of which are white builds with RGB.
I've been using air coolers all my life, for many many years, but this year i bought and upgraded from nhd15 to Icerberg Thermal IceFLOE OASIS 360mm AIO and honestly, im never looking back at air coolers. The performance for my 5950x is soo much better with my AIO, basically ~10c drop from the cpu and actually ~7c drop from the gpu because of my AIO top, exhaust orientation, which surprised me the most.
Many thanks for this video 😃 You confirm certain thoughts that I had, between the thermal exchanges and the dimensions of the radiators 😉. Can you recommend a tower, which would allow me to “only” mount large sets of radiators, in order to connect a PC??
Hello Matt, as always, fantastic video! I’m currently building a workstation for rendering and 3D modeling and would really value your advice. I’m considering pairing an AMD Ryzen 9950X with a Noctua NH-D15 Chromax and the Torrent Compact case, but I’m a bit concerned about thermal throttling. I’m now leaning toward an AIO cooler in a Meshify 2 Compact, possibly a 240mm, 280mm, or 360mm mounted on the front? with all Noctua fans. Alternatively, I’m considering a larger case like the Meshify 2 for better airflow? Could you share your thoughts on which setup (case/AIO) would be best for performance and efficiency? I’m a bit unsure which option would work best. I’d really appreciate any recommendations on the best mounting options for a clean, efficient 3D workstation. Thanks so much for your time and expertise!
Thanks dude. Always good to understand a little better. I love the convenience of air but I also like high performance chips which kinda bind me to liquid. I think the next one I build will be a sleeper. No windows. No RGB. Just a good performance machine that looks like a simple PC. Have you ever done a true sleeper? Like built a modern component PC inside and old 2000's shell or earlier PC Case?
I'm looking for a case like that, not old looking but you know no windows and functional case with space for big components, I'm thinking of the BeQuiet Silent Base 802, comes in a solid side panel version
Thank you, great video again! Q: Is there a video with airflow in an air cooled with no front fans? I wondering if you should you have the rear fan as intake (towards the CPU aircooler) and then exhaust through top case fans? Probably just have two top fans in front of the cpu cooler?
Are you team Air Cooling, or Liquid AIO? What’s your current CPU cooler? 👀

Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB. In a CM MasterCase H500 with two 200mm intake fans. Incredible air cooling.
Im glad you made a video on this Matt,
When I got a new custom built R9 7900X3D based system from my local computer shop, I got a Air Cooler for the CPU. I had asked about a AIO but was advised against it, for a few reasons one being if the pump fails then its back to the shop to get the whole AIO replaced.
And so far the air cooler is handling my system very well.
custom 😉
Perfect videos for a pc enthusiast to go with morning coffee
As always, beautifully done. Your dedication and passion as an artisan is inspiring. I humbly request that you continue to produce content that empowers your audience to be informed and competent consumers. Thank you for considering my suggestion.
this is not what i was expecting today, and i love it. thanks for taking the time on all fronts
Love your videos and production that you put into them. Keep up the good work!
This is massive 👏 unbelievably a good watch.
You made it enjoyable to watch. Also, im 50 % in and had to write something as it's a massive, interesting blog i know its not your niche to talk in your blogs, and to be honest, i love your style as it is.
But a motherboard like this would be amazing.
Thanks Darren! Appreciate you pausing to drop a comment. I know talking isn’t my usual form of content, but as I’m sure you will agree - it’s appropriate from time to time. It’s almost selfish to store so much knowledge and not share it with you guys. Either way, appreciate you stopping by and hope you enjoyed it 😄
So so so helpful, ive been trying to find this sort of video for ages, then boom!
B e a utiful PCs showcased here! Your commentary and vizzes are excellent and make things really clear. Thank you
Superbly useful video. Thanks for this.
i feel like i should be paying to watch this content. Cinematic masterpiece
My rig started out with a Corsair H60 that eventually broke after rough transport of my rig. So I slapped in a NH-D15 and love everything about it. Beefy, no-nonsense cooler. I'm only interested in liquid cooling that doesn't involve fans.
all of your videos feel like watching a movie
great editing skills and direction
i hope to see more and more content sir
That camera angle through the Fuma 3 was absolutely wild! Great Video Matt.
Thanks so much FanaPants! 👌 that shot took a few hours, just for a few seconds of footage. Planning and positioning wasn’t easy, but great fun! 😄
great content man, subscribed
the presentation is top notch glad to be alive
My Vote is for Air Cooler. Cause Liquids can dry up and cause a lot of problems down the line. Air Coolers have No liquids so 100% no leakage.
Damn these cinematic shots ❤
First video I see in this channel and already subbed. Where'd you get those slick wallpapers? They look clean af.
Great video again Matt. Your music is for me also great! Enjoy your day and your coffee
Thank you 🙂 The music plays a huge role in the videos as you probably know. It’s always reassuring to know you guys enjoy it too! 🙌
Lovely guide for beginners!
Thank you!
That was an utterly fantastic video, Mr. Lee!
Thanks so much 🤜🤛
Currently use a Deepcool Ls720 360 all in one and had an NZXT 240 aio before that. Haven't had any type of failure or bad performance. Both have been superb.
Noctua and Bequiet are my favorite fans. Great video!
We all have our personal preferences, but I’d agree that Noctua and Be Quiet! Certainly produce some of the industries best 🙂
Thanks for this content I already decide what cooler I will buy this week.
Awesome Information Bro! Keep it going and Keep it Classy Always!👌☕
Very informative Matt...thanks👌
i love your videos! been waiting for an upload almost everyday
🙌 I wish I could upload more than once a week (on a Monday) but they take an entire week to film and produce so it’s just not possible 😭 either way, I’m glad you’re here for every video!
Great Video with stellar editing!
I personally love air coolers I have a Deepcool AK620 and it keeps my CPU cooled during 6-8 hours of gaming. 1 year in and still going strong.
Noctua is just top-notch on another level...
They always know how to make a product to stand the test of time!
I love your Videos Matt !
Great Work Again
Thank you 🤓 Have an awesome Monday!
Excellent said, excellent explained 👌🏻👏🏻💚
your best video ever! BRAVO
I went Team Project Zero this year and settled on Lian Li with their Hydroshift AIO. It looks and performs beyond my expectations plus it fits the near cableless design of my MSI tower.
Epic work on the video 🔥🔥🔥
Fantastic information !
Loving your images and pacing. Did you use the Loawa 24mm? Well done!
The Loawa 24mm has been used a few times for sure! Well spotted 🫦
Many thanks for this video 😃
You confirm certain thoughts that I had, between the thermal exchanges and the dimensions of the radiators 😉.
Can you recommend a tower, which would allow me to “only” mount large sets of radiators, in order to connect a PC??
Quality Content at its peak ❤❤❤
I'd do a 360 aio on the meshify 2
Both! Air cooled ITX workstation and liquid cooled ITX gaming rig
Thanks for the video , i got the asus tuf gt502 case and id like to steal some ideas out of your builds , id appreciate more builds using this case !
This is top tier content!
Great Video.Thank you Matt!
You’re welcome. Pleased you enjoyed it 🙌
Thank you, great video again!
Q: Is there a video with airflow in an air cooled with no front fans? I wondering if you should you have the rear fan as intake (towards the CPU aircooler) and then exhaust through top case fans? Probably just have two top fans in front of the cpu cooler?
