    I prefer the Village being the last since it fits the tourism theme best. After going to all the tourist spots, you end chilling in the village where they have a festival

    • @NintenDeen
      @NintenDeen  วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I feel like the village itself is a tourist spot though lol. They have a spa, dancing piantas in the center like it's night time at a resort...idk. Ricco harbor feels industrial for example and feels way less like a tourist spot

    The village being last makes sense in a “peeking behind the curtain” way. You’ve explored the tourist traps. Now you see the reality of the island.

    • @NintenDeen
      @NintenDeen  วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      That's a fun perspective. But I also think the village is more of a fun resort location than something like Ricco harbor lol. They have a spa

    I feel like the seven stages were arranged in order of time of day they seem to represent.
    Bianco Hills seems like its happening in the morning so it can stay first.
    Gelato Beach and Rico Harbor seem like just before noon or just before the height of the day. (Best times to go to the beach or on an industry tour)
    Pinna park (to me) seems like it happens at noon or whatever time the sun is at its highest, which would be a good time to try and run to a water park to cool off.
    Noki Bay is a daytime stage but the sun is less harsh, suggesting those hours that are still considered "midday " or "afternoon" but not quite "sunset" yet.
    Serena Beach is the obvious sunset stage. (Great time for a restaurant date or a return to your hotel after a day of fun in the sun.)
    Pianta village reminds me more of a festival or party at night that wasn't on your planned itinerary, but is just interesting enough to lure you back out of the hotel for a bit.
    If taken in this light... the stages are arranged (close to) perfectly.

    The fact this stage lacks a proper boss fight really keeps it from feeling like the "final level." It has the right amount of challenge. Otherwise, I feel

    Goopy Inferno has a few cheese straits. The water in the middle is one, but if you go around the entire village you can climb a tree and use the leaves to drop down to the mayor.
    And yeah the intended was is to go along the edge talking to the villagers, one at the back is next to a hole and tells you the mayor is through there.

    • @NintenDeen

    This being the first or second stage would be too early, kids would not know what to do with the hot chomps, and if they did how in the world are they going to be be able to clear the lava flood of episode 3, the chomp bath is quite frustrating, and the chuckster so early would be insane. This would be better as level 5 where Sirena would be level 6 and Noki would be level 7.

    my favorite level, I love this game, and I love your videos!!! I started playing Sunshine again because of your videos. I disagree with the consensus that this game is too hard, I was 13 in 2002, and I say this game is perfect.

    • @NintenDeen
      @NintenDeen  วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's not THAT hard when you get used to it! I think too many people shrugged it off as difficult early on and it never recovered from that mentality. Maybe it's bad game design since a game shouldn't require so many hours to get comfortable, but overall I agree that it's really not that hard. Especially if you're not doing blue coins

    to me pianta village always felt like you're seeing the hidden side of the island only the rich tourists get to visit.
    like, for most of the game, you can see the other stages from the ones you're playing at, and the ones who are distinctly more natural (pianta village and noki bay) are hidden out of sight from these levels

    Pianta Village is OK. Two notes, the Goopy Inferno (or the Goofy Inperno as I liked to call it as a kid) is a very creative mission, and I love how many different ways it can be approached, some intended, and some (probably) not so much, but that's the beauty of it. Second, the tree that bears all the different fruits is just hilarious.

  • @RainingMetal
    @RainingMetal วันที่ผ่านมา

    * Watching the opening scenes of Delfino Plaza, the perspective made me think that the pipe to Pianta Village was on the mountain rather than the Shine Gate.
    * As mentioned many times in your retrospective, I wasn't one for talking with NPCs when I first played the game, so I had no idea one could actually pull the tails of the chain chomplets, let alone figure out that you had to dip them into the village river to cool them off permanently. Attempting and failing to douse them all at once was what I constantly tried to do, so I couldn't make any progress in Pianta Village without a guide.
    * After reading a magazine guide, I had basically spoiled myself for the rest of the stage, so I never beat the Goopy Inferno blind. I had attempted one shortcut by hopping over the mushrooms under the village for my first attempts on that stage, but that always failed, so I defaulted to the "official" route of going around the village back and climbing underneath the entire subterranean jungle gym.

      @NintenDeen  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Honestly I still get surprised when ppl say they speak to NPCs lol. Like if it's an RPG, sure. But in a platformer I've never considered it lol

    I will say regarding Pianta Village as a final level, I do think that the eighth shine of Pianta is the most climactic set piece in the seven main stages.

    The last three stages of the game are very good for being surreal and unique. It’s most evident with this and Noki bay because they’re the more normalised domains of the island’s natives where you can’t see many other locations in the distance. The massive pit under the village is odd though, and I’ve got to wonder what’s down there.

    @Dman25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    I feel like the main thing that makes this level not quite fitting for a first stage is the pit. The platforming under the stage is actually a bit tricky. It feels a bit like a more punishing version of Ricco Harbor to me. I don’t disagree that it’s not the hardest stage exactly, but I think it feels like a midgame stage at least.

    • @NintenDeen
      @NintenDeen  วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, I probably should have mentioned that. The area beneath the stage being a bottomless pit will make it too difficult at the start, so in my hypothetical scenario of this stage being first or second would be if it was on an island of water for example

  • @queenofdiamonds3002
    @queenofdiamonds3002 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I find it very fascinating what a different difficulty curve you encountered than I did when I first played as a kid. I went around and did mission 1 of every stage, then mission 2 and so on. I mean actually I was like 8 so I'd play an area until I got stuck or frustrated and then bounce to doing something else, and that was usually a mission or two
    Not that there's any wrong way to play, it's just interesting seeing how different your experience has been.

    Maybe now is a good time to mention some of the cut content for this game... You say that Pianta Village being the last level is a bit underwhelming, which (besides the bottomless pit that really reminds me of Tick Tock Clock, Rainbow Ride and even worse, Tiny-Huge Island) definitely makes sense when you see some of the other level names they had.
    These were only found in a list of train stations, for an unused train line mechanic apparently, which could've been how yoy got around the island before the paint portals. I think all a these were reimagined and included in Super Mario Eclipse actually.
    We've got Erto Rock, which would be onnthe cliffsides of Corona Mountain I think, and Lacrima Hotel, different from Delfino Hotel, they do make the distinction in the list, which apparently used to not be on Sirena Beach. Then, for "temprary stations", we have Battleship Island, based on an abandoned, heavily industrialized island at the shores of Japan (good final level before the boss material I'd say), Fire Temple (also good final level material, some folks say it's the temple leading into Corona Mountain) and Lighthouse Island.

    • @NintenDeen
      @NintenDeen  12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      I'm doing my best to avoid all the Eclipse stuff until I finish this series because I don't want it to sway my discussion lol. I did recently watch some videos about the cut content though, it sounded like it was going to be similar to wind waker

      @NintenDeen yeah, apparently so! Which y'know, I think it fits the more linear but still explorative progression of Sunshine anyways.

    I agree that the chuckster stage isn't nearly as bad as everyone says (especially considering you oughta know how the game controls if you've made it this far), though I feel like it does make sense that the rest of the challenges are in the last part of the game since I found them way harder to do than anything in Bianco Hills as a kid. Nowadays it's kind of a wash I guess.

    • @NintenDeen
      @NintenDeen  วันที่ผ่านมา

      I feel like the chain chomp stuff was pretty easy too as well as il piantissimo This stage actually didn't have a crazy amount of platforming through the first 7 shines lol

  • @GhabulousGhoti
    @GhabulousGhoti วันที่ผ่านมา

    I've always had trouble lining up the last Chuckster Pianta to talk to him properly. I will blame that on the somewhat hypersensitive control of this game, it's not the end of the world but I do think that last bit is a little janky feeling. Overall I agree that this is an underwhelming final stage.

    • @NintenDeen
      @NintenDeen  วันที่ผ่านมา

      When I came back to do the red coin secret shine I struggled more with the chuckster that threw me upwards for some reason. It's not that it's not janky, it's more that the whole throwing mechanic bothered me less than the other secret challenge areas

  • @libertyjones3799
    @libertyjones3799 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I would disagree with Pianta Village being first strictly because of the goopy inferno. That stage would turn off a lot of players early on. Also all the goop in Pianta Village is fire goop, which harms you and kills quickly. Gelato Beach would be a good first or second stage so long as sand bird gets moved from episode 4 to episode 6.

    • @NintenDeen
      @NintenDeen  20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      The thing is, I don't know that the goopy inferno and the sand bird are drastically worse than the secret challenge areas in Bianco hills

    • @libertyjones3799
      @libertyjones3799 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @ I would agree that the secret of the dirty lake was far too challenging for the first level, but the secret of the hillside cave was not difficult at all. It helps that dirty lake is episode 6 and not earlier, so hopefully most players would have time not just in Bianco Hills but in other levels learning controls.
      Goopy Inferno is infuriating and the intended path with grates on the underside is too much of a puzzle for early game, especially since the player won’t have practice with the safer climbing grates in Rico Harbor and Pinna Park.
      Sandbird is just frustrating if you haven’t gotten used to standing on twisting surfaces yet, so by pushing it further back in Gelato Beach, you can hopefully get players in a better position to take on the challenge in the early game and make Gelato the first level.
