Loving these compilations! These are great to have running in the background during the day. Plus, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE hearing the intro music. All The Nostagia Feels!
probably the best intro music on youtube. i'll be working doing my think not interacting with anyone, and suddenly this tune will come to my head and i'll just smile and remember my nerd bros are out here making money on videos about nerd stuff. life was kinda hard growing up as one of the nerdy boys, but now some guys who seem just like my friends from back in the day are able to harness what we loved at the time and turn it into a career. that makes me so happy
I really like using music cassette cases for my Gameboy games. It's easy to print an insert that gives you a front and side cover and they stack & store really well. Plus you can put them into old-school multi cassette holders for display. The only issue is adding a foam insert in each so that the cartridge doesn't slide around.
the sad thing about the Saturn Analogue and the Dreamcast controller is that they are the ONLY first party controller with a "no drift" analogue stick due to them being based on Hall Effect Sensors. No wear and tear here - everything else I know works with 150 year old tech -> the good old Potentiometer that WILL fail and die when used.
If there's ever a TH-cam gaming channel Hall Of Fame (and I hope there will be), you guys should be its 1st inductee. You are true icons for the gaming community.
Sansui made a controller for the NES that is almost identical to the Famicom's controller. It also features a slider switch for the A and B button that allow you to set how fast you want auto fire. It also has a headphone jack at the bottom of the controller for some weird mono output that changes ears depending on which direction your pressing. Overall it is my favorite controller for the NES.
pretty cool man i'll have to look into this. while i don't want any controller that has anything to do with autofire, having those other features seems pretty neat. switching a and b omg lol
Great video, I grew up with gaming with my first game pad was an Atari 2600. We have really come a long way since then, one only complaint about these series is I want to get these consoles again but what sucks about getting older is having the money to buy them but no time to play them lol. Thanks for these series I always love having these videos playing why I'm at work or when I have my kids around.
i would say man as someone who sounds like we have similar history, is don't consider it a loss if you cannot get the things you remember back. this is how most memories work anyway and if you really needed it you would already have it. so much about gaming as an adult is about time and if you are anything like me, you don't have enough time to play what you can afford to

I'm a NES controller fan, NES Advantage fan, NES Max fan, NES dogbone controller fan, SNES controller fan, N64 controller, PS controller, and the Nintendo GameCube controller fan. Love them all!
I seriously bought the SEGA joystick JUST for the included Rapid Fire adapter. I would then connect a regular joypad to it. Oddly, I mostly used the rapid fire because I loved playing Monopoly and holding the rapid fire sped up the computer's turns. Also, it was MORE comfortable to play with it in your hands like the Atari joystick and actually move the stick from the bottom instead of the top grip.
Anyone who doesn’t like the NES Max doesn’t understand WHY it was made that way. Yeah, it’s smaller and can be a bit less comfortable but if you doubt that sliding disc thing, play Marble Madness with it. You’ll understand after that.
Yes! I am not a fan of the dogbone either! I think the angle should be the other way and, as you said, the buttons should be closer. It’s so close to be the best NES pad, but just falls short.

The Megadrive 6 button pad is my favourite digital pad with the only thing missing being shoulder buttons, the Saturn pad almost nailed it but the retro bit version did it perfect.
For the NES Max controller, you are supposed to press on the ring, you don't use the thumb placement for pressing buttons, that is just for thumb stabilization and positioning.
Better off buying new contact pads for old controllers. Cheaper and just as effective even if you need to replace them more often than original pads. What's great about 2D gen console controllers is there really aren't any "mechanical" points of failure to be had like you have with new gens with triggers and sticks etc. They really can last forever with occasional pad changes to keep them fresh.
I've found that Gamerz Tek clone-consoles have so-far always worked with Everdrives. Mainly because they are pure hardware clones; no software emulation at all. You can also usually choose between original outputs or modern outputs. I've seen other clone-consoles that boast HDMI, but they often mangle the color pallet. Like, why is Mario now wearing fuchsia overalls..? Ew. Somehow, Gamerz Tek clones don't have this problem. I'm not sure what they're doing differently, but it works! Oh and, NO ADDED LAG. They play exactly like the originals do. It's also a nice bonus too that they don't cost too much. xD
I remember the dual shock ps1 controller. Never got it because there really wasn't any good games that required it. I guess you can play crash bandicoot on it, but those games work just fine with dpad since they are basically 2D games with polygons . You're locked in either a horizontal platform stage or vertical runner stage. Maybe you could use it on Blasto. LOL
Great vids. You should update the controllers with other consoles bit. Currently using my xboxS/X controller on switch with 8bitdo usb dongle but looking to use 8bitdo on xboxS for fighting games, haven’t found a one yet but hear may flash makes one. Love your channel.
I think at the time, it was more common for people in japan to have their consoles out in the living room on the table or even on the floor. The controller wires were short, however the other console cables were much longer.
Careful with those retrobit products. They look and feel very similar to their original controllers but are built with some cheap internal parts. I bought two of the retrobit Saturn controllers last year and the d-pads broke within a few hours of gameplay on both controllers. the actuator cross in the d-pad was made with a very fragile plastic. It seems like the best modern 3rd party controllers are made by 8bitdo, they have a great Saturn/genesis 6 button style controller alternative.
Yup, I bought a Saturn one from Amazon and I live in South Africa so I can't return it. It has massive lag and the c button seems to choose when it wants to work. But not only that, because I could have just gotten a bad unit..To me they feel cheap, I have an 8bitdo Genesis controller and its no contest. You cant even compare the quality, I can't believe they get such good reviews.
@@tremaineunderwood7322 there's a firmware update to fix that, haven't had any issues using it with my WEGA CRT. I've beaten Burning Rangers and Sakura Wars nbd with this contoroller.
The SNES controller (or SNES classic mini) is my favourite controller ever. Also for fighting games on other systems like Neo Geo (I don't like floating d-pads, they aren't sturdy at all). If the buttons start to fail of feel mushy, I simply change out the contacts.
I have a PC Engine Duo with most of the great fighting titles, 2-six button stock controllers, 2-six button fighter controllers, and one stock NEC controller. I have the multi-tap too.
Just fyi, if a controller/product is officially licensed but not made by the owner, then it's a second party controller, you can always tell the difference between 2nd and 3rd party because 2nd party controllers have the owners name on the controller like the first party controllers, like the retro bit sega controllers which are 2nd party, if doesn't have the logo/owner name on it, then it's 3rd party
Saturn pad might be the ultimate controller for the 2D Capcom fighting games but I think the original PlayStation controller is the best one ever made. Yes, it works very well for those Capcom fighters as well. Also, the Dual Analog (not DualShock) is the most comfortable and best controller with dual analog sticks ever made. PlayStation's d-pad was weird at first but I think it's the best d-pad ever made, it's so comfortable to use but still very precise. Unlike Nintendo's d-pad that can't do diagonals very well or Sega's d-pad that isn't that precise.
Very good insight. I myself always prefer the original NES controllers overall as well. So many years of using that basic rectangle block controller that nothing feels the same. Same goes for the PlayStation controller. My brain just feels at ease when I’m using a PS controller vs Switch/Xbox. Don’t get me wrong I do love the Xbox controller especially their trigger layout but nothing has a feel like the PS controller and same goes from that Original NES pad
Nintendo build quality in '80s to mid '90s was like military-grade equipment lol. An original Gameboy literally survived a bombing run during the Gulf War. Somehow, Nintendo could defy the laws of thermodynamics and made plastic as hard as titanium.
@@foreignuser_ Yep. They don't even break through extensive use they are just broken straight out the factory. Then when you happen to get an alright pair another issue rolls up like a noisy spring.
Am i the only one who loved the duke controller? I didnt have a issues with it.....I guess if u were around to pick the Xbox up back in the day you were just happy to own it
Here's the thing about the Dreamcast controller and the wire being attached at the wrong end which no one ever seems to pick up on: The controller has a little groove/clip on the underside of the controller that you can attach the wire to so that it holds to the back of the controller again. Why would Sega do this in the first place? Well, I can't even tell you the number of controllers I've had in my life where the wire has worn out and I've had to buy a new one, because the wire bends and over time wears out, ultimately exposing the inner wires and sometimes even snapping off completely, as happened with an Xbox 360 controller charging wire I had not too long ago. When the wire is attached to the back of a controller it is just a physical law of the Universe. Given enough time, and enough use, massive bending and eventual damage, possibly even completely breaking, will happen. Sega, god love them, saw this and figured out how to beat that tendency with 2 very simple innovations and, disappointingly, EVERYONE missed it. Everyone except me, that is. That little groove/clip for the wire to be seated inside prevents so much movement and lessens the bending significantly enough in the wire that, if not completely preventing the wearing out of the wire over time as the bending gets worse, it certainly prolongs the expected life of the controller significantly. Do have a look at your Dreamcast controller and make use of what Sega gave you in order to keep it working as intended for longer. Disclaimer: I am from the UK, and as such I had a UK model. It's possible the North American Dreamcast controllers didn't have this innovation, though I can't imagine Sega not including it.
[Try4ce] It's there on North American controllers, and I actually agree, to some extent. While I've never had issues with controller wires wearing down on any controllers for any systems, I get what Sega was doing with the bottom wire, and personally it never bothered me. Seems to weird out most folks though.
am i the only one who likes pressures sensitive buttons for D-pad steering in driving games??? everyone always mentions the mgs example, but soooo many games that involve driving take advantage of D-pad pressure sensitivity for steering.
Am I the only person that put the Wii remote inside of a Mario Kart steering wheel 4 games where you have to hold but controller horizontally. I have big hands but it made it completely comfortable and anyone I showed it to back-in-the-day for Super Mario Wii or punch out absolutely loved it and used it every time.
The solution to the NES squareness on the controller was to put a piece of electrical tape on each top corner just to make it softer on the finger lol, than just add more lairs to make it rounder to your custom thickness. Didnt really need to buy anything. Same with SMS. I MUST SAY! Since you mentioned ROMDUMPS that are BAD, CAN SOMEONE PLEASE REDUMP SOULBLADE FOR PS1 THE CURRENT DUMP WONT RUN STORY MODE/Edgemaster mode PROPERLY OR SPECIAL WEAPONS PROPERLY AT ALL ON ANY EMULATOR!!!!!!! Both available dumps are broken in this sense ive tried forever to get it to run. If you can find a dump that can actually fully complete the game without glitching and freezing, ive never found it. If you boot it up and try arcade it will seem to work but the weapon mode doesnt.
The master system arcade stick is arranged normally as near every joystick is right handed even if joypads and modern arcade sticks are still left handed. I was always led to believe that the only reason the stick on the left and the buttons on the right is a thing is because early arcade manufacturers wanted to make games more difficult to play compared to right to move as is more natural. I know these days that controllers seem more natural being left to control, but think of things like flight sticks, they are right handed with throttle on the left. Mouse and keyboard as well for that matter unless you are left handed I guess.
For the 8bit, 16bit and even 32bit and above generations ... despite possibly having original hardware, i choose emulation. Helps me avoid some of the costs associated with trying to get original hardware working in the way i want it to with the controller i want it to.
25:50 I had that SEGA arcade power stick! I'd gotten it from a good friend! I got it for Phantasy Star 2. If u did a search (press the A button) as you were walking... it would reset the walk so you'd avoid monster fights! (The turbo button was KEY!) I made it through the WHOLE GAME!! get to the final boss!!! Get hit once and killed!!! Not building my levels up through playing the game... was about a year or more just wasted!! Finally beat the game like 20 years later when I dL'd it on XBOX360. Took the time to grind hard and build my characters up! I'd finally see that same friend while he was working at GAMESTOP and I was "Bro!!!... I finally beat Phantasy Star 2!" He just laughed and said "well that took a while!" And I'd told him about the trick he showed me to avoid fights ended up totally backfiring on me! LMADO!
The NES Max is not for every game. Try it with Marble Madness and you’ll get it. It’s great for games where you’re frantically pushing in different directions.
You seem to have forgotten that putting the Joy Stick™ on the left side was to screw with people in the arcades, since most are right-handed. So, "30 years of muscle memory" is really 30 years of forcing people to become left-handed when gaming.
Completely and utterly wrong. It made much more sense to have the buttons on the right side, and this ridiculous myth about some arcade owner switch things around is nonsense. I was there. I played Space Invaders and Galaxian and all the other games and they did NOT originally have the buttons on the left. You can go and look at pictures of the first machines and find out for yourself. Games like Pac-Man had the controller in the middle, because you didn't need buttons, and you would use your right hand for that, which makes sense because you are obviously going to use your dominant hand for a one handed activity. However when you start to get to games with multiple buttons, it makes much more sense to have them on the right, because people are right handed, and it requires more dexterity to be selecting and pressing different buttons than it does to just be moving. I mean ... do you seriously think Nintendo put the D-Pad on the left hand side because some unscrupulous arcade owner in America had switched the buttons around? Before you answer, you might want to be aware that there was no video game crash in Japan (or anywhere other than North America actually), and the NES was out in Japan, with the D-Pad on the left hand side, before it went to America...
I actually love the N64 controller for Gameboy games on Switch. I don’t have an NES pad, so it’s the only controller I own where B is up and to the left of A. I could just use A and X on other controllers but…it’s just not the same, lol.

Unlike Nintendo's d-pad that can't do diagonals very well or Sega's d-pad that isn't that precise.
fell asleep and DIDNT wake up to this
Very good insight.
This is the 4th time I wake up and this plays...
Nintendo build quality in '80s to mid '90s was like military-grade equipment lol. An original Gameboy literally survived a bombing run during the Gulf War. Somehow, Nintendo could defy the laws of thermodynamics and made plastic as hard as titanium.
and now they make joycons that break through everyday use, don't address the issue, and keep on keeping on
@@foreignuser_ Yep. They don't even break through extensive use they are just broken straight out the factory. Then when you happen to get an alright pair another issue rolls up like a noisy spring.
The Dreamcast joystick was awesome.
Am i the only one who loved the duke controller? I didnt have a issues with it.....I guess if u were around to pick the Xbox up back in the day you were just happy to own it
The Duke is the ultimate Pad for fighting games. Fighting games suck with the Controller S. (I guess it stands for "Sucks")
@@jackofallgamesTV Agreed
I'm 40 yrs old and have been gaming since the sega master system and just now learned that gamecube trigger has extra button click at bottom lol
"It's not gonna be magically possible to play Rondo of Blood off of an SD card."
Well, not yet anyway.
AWESOME ALEX IN MIRACLE WORLD SHIRT.👍
Incredible vidéo
Here's the thing about the Dreamcast controller and the wire being attached at the wrong end which no one ever seems to pick up on:
The controller has a little groove/clip on the underside of the controller that you can attach the wire to so that it holds to the back of the controller again.
Of course i knew about it!! The last time i replayed Metroid Fusion, i played it entirely in tv mode via gba player using my gba as controller 😏
Nail polish display is genius for gameboy games
Understandable, have a nice day.
Dude you killed it on this video. Sucks that you havent done more like the flydigi vader 3 or the turtle beach steatlh ultra.
That Sega Master Music takes me back to ‘87😢
Now what about propane and propane accessories?
A 4 hours vídeo? I'm in XD. Cheers from Chile
am i the only one who likes pressures sensitive buttons for D-pad steering in driving games??? everyone always mentions the mgs example, but soooo many games that involve driving take advantage of D-pad pressure sensitivity for steering.
Television Amico best controller ever made
The solution to the NES squareness on the controller was to put a piece of electrical tape on each top corner just to make it softer on the finger lol, than just add more lairs to make it rounder to your custom thickness.
The best channels do not beg for likes. Glad you do not. You guys are solid. Keep it that way.
Nintendo invented the D-Pad, that is not up for debate
Wow. Great video
Awesome video man
Oh yes! Gonna love this
Wow what a great job.
I love this channel
For the 8bit, 16bit and even 32bit and above generations ... despite possibly having original hardware, i choose emulation. Helps me avoid some of the costs associated with trying to get original hardware working in the way i want it to with the controller i want it to.
To continue on how Analogue consoles slightly slow (or speed) games to play nice with HDMI, do MiSTer cores do the same?
RIP. Byuu/Near :(
Just found your channel! nice!
I finally beat Phantasy Star 2!"
He just laughed and said "well that took a while!" And I'd told him about the trick he showed me to avoid fights ended up totally backfiring on me! LMADO!
The NES Max is not for every game. Try it with Marble Madness and you’ll get it. It’s great for games where you’re frantically pushing in different directions.
Have you seen the Retropads on ebay!!?? LOL!! Controller of your dreams for other 8 bits available!!
