12:50 that 'tuning fork' they changed is a Lance of Longinus from Evangelion, I'm guessing they changed it so they wouldn't get in legal trouble. They kept that spider enemy Mariel in though, whichappears to be a reference to the spider angel Matariel from Eva, (not to mention the pyramid being blue at first could possibly be another Eva reference) so who knows.

Tinfoil hat theory about the cactus replacement: the "fork" has striking resemblance with the lance of longinus from Neon Genesis Evangelion, maybe Gainax pressured HAL into changing it. Would also explain why the blue pyramid was turned black since the blue one looks very similar to Ramiel.

I honestly think he is a very underrated movie producer and director, and I feel personal offended whenever anyone jokes about him.

AMAZING, this was my first ever video game and ive been needing this.
I hope one day we'll get a Kirby 64 2 (likely by a different name lol) with all these playable characters and ability combining. The closest we got is Star Allies, I suppose.

16:26 I hope I don't come across as a know it all I just wanted to let you know that the animal characters are somewhere else in the game if you combine cut and stone you get a statue Kirby that starts off as a stone but then is carved into other shapes some of them are the animals from Kirby 3 with some abilities I thought it was a cool way to sneak them in the game I hope you think so too

Probably been told this a thousand times already (well, a hundred maybe), but the animal buddies are also referenced with the boomerang + rock power up. Also I think Ene test might refer to an engine test, with an empty level meant to test the physics of kirby falling and floating.
All and all was not disappointed to hear and see all this. Kirby 64 is my favorite of the series and I always love hearing about things that could have been.

The video is informative and interesting , as expected from you. However, i 'd have to admit I do miss a bit your old style in your videos. Well it's not like you've never made jokes b4 in your vids, adding humor is not a problem to me. But at last it felt less forced & jokes were less random and distracting... Well, of course that's just my opinion/ personal feeling and it doesn't matter if you enjoy making videos more with this style the most important thing is that you feel comfortable . Making videos is a chance to try out new things and be creative after all . Anyways, as always good luck with your channel and have a nice stay in Japan

I just noticed that on the left of the Early HUD, there are some icons that shows how many Crystal Shards you collected in the level, like the Star Coin Counter in New Super Mario Bros.
Shame they scrapped it, it would've been really helpful in the final game.

There are actually several HUD options in the final game if you go to settings, some of which look very similar if not identical to that "beta" HUD.

The animal statues ability could be another surviving piece of when the animal buddy's were in the game. It would of been the stone transformation for the animal buddy being used.

Aside from that, IT'S ABOUT DANG TIME you did Kirby 64! Seriously, I've been waiting for the day you upload a video discussing this game! Other than cut character selections, there was not much I knew about this game's cut features. But dang, there's quite a good chunk of the game that scrapped, mainly story sequence and a couple levels.
Every video of yours just gives me goosebumps. Knowing that a plethora of ideas are put into motion within a game by the dev. team only to get redone near the end is almost mystifying to me, yet exciting once you get the information about what was going to be. It's all fascinating!
