    Hope to see you make more videos, this brings back memories of the last time I had to fix one of these loaders by myself. just me and a Bobcat 863. When pulling out the clutch assembly I had to use wood wedges to get it out.

    A chain hoist off the rops really helps when taking out the clutches you call pull up while still watch and pry when needed. Thinking that loose up the brake bands all the way helps when taking the main cover off too. Good job though its a tough deal esp for someone whos never been in one

    My late father taught allot of this stuff as a tafe,trade school teacher,trust me you've saved your money just give the assembly to cat , let them rebuild it properly, probably only 2hours labor because it looks to me that a home mechanic cut corners with cheap parts etc and this is why it's cooked off and shattered

      That is what i did. They still hit me up for $1500 just for that, cant imagine what they would have charged to do the whole thing

    I use chain comalongs to a boom or bucket or forks , so I can lift the part out before using the hydraulics of a loader and I use them to gently lower part back in

    Carefully touch the disc, they are like Knives!!!, and ver carefully wen open the clutch..... Always un a press, the springs canción hurt you.... Good Luck!!!

    What happened next ? Please please tell us, where is part 5 ? This is the best youtube I've watched in ages. Thanks for going to all the trouble of filming it all, must be frustrating enough just doing the job on your own without any help. If you haven't got the time or inclination to make part 5 please just tell us what you did and how it worked out. I'd love to see the thing working too.

      thanks! sorry i havent been very motivated to put together another vid. Actually i lost a bunch of footage in a harddrive crash. I got some stuff to put up though, just have not gotten around to it, honestly not as good, just wanted to get the machine back together fast. People been bugging me about it so maybe i will get something up soon. thanks again

    You done well to work that out.
    Try using a winch next time be easier.
    I have never done that job before.
    Looks like a big job to get back in.
    Definetely a job for caterpillar mobile service.
    There was no video after that one, the head gash must of got him bad or left it there after price of parts was seen.😁

    Think the Crown Wheel and Pinion were fouling hence lift with a pop !- did it do any damage to either ??

    955H I have.
    Yoda I am not.
    I think it's a bit older.
    My issue is #3 piston is separated. Fuel injector failure from old fuel?
    I have to get the bottom plate off that covers the whole bottom. It's not the oil pan. That's off already. But this 14 gauge? plate runs all the way to thew rear of the engine where it almost rests on a cross member. So I can't access the last row of bolts.
    How did you come across the service manual you have? would you recommend a source for the manual?
    Hope your work is well worth it. Looks like you've tracked it down like a blood hound

    Are you going to make any more videos on the 955L? I got three 955's two C's and an E series (57, 58, 60) and am in the process of tearing down a D315 engine on one C series D4, 1957 12A3563. I got them at the beginning of winter and can't get them home until spring. The1960, E series 12A8263 has a D6 undercarriage.
    Old Magnet: Heavy Equipment Forums
    "C" to "E" model change included a change from D4 size undercarriage to D6 undercarriage at s/n 12A5793
    Nige: Heavy Equipment Forums
    Generally different models had different Serial Number prefixes.
    Not all letters were used. A certainly wasn't. It would just have been a 955.
    The ones I know are as follows. I don't guarantee that the list is complete and my Serial Number reference book isn't within reach at the moment.
    955C - 12A
    955F - 45A
    955H - 60A, 72A, 77A, 93A
    955K - 31J, 48H, 53H, 57J, 61H, 64J, 71J, 85J.
    955L - 08Y, 13D, 13X, 57M.
    64J changed from K to L from S/N 3994 onwards
    85J changed from K to L from S/N 4672 onwards

      i did but my hard drive crashed and i lost the footage. Machine is running great and im digging a lake with it right now.

      @@anndivine9989 the hub that the nut screwed onto was broke. I replaced the worn clutch plates while i had it apart

    We completely rebuilt the undercarriage of a 955k. We changed all the oils and now we can't get the tractor to steer. Step on the brake and it just stops. We adjusted the pedals. All new filters. 95/130 gear oil in the bevel gear/clutch. any suggestions?

      dont see how doing the undercarriage would have changed the steering... if all you did to the steering system is change the oil then maybe you got the wrong oil??? Mine took 30 weight if i remember correct.

      @@codygillespie The oil was wrong, so we changed it to tranny oil and now we can't get the pump to push up any oil to the filter. Any tips on how to prime the pump. Or where do we put a gauge to check for oil pressures.

      @@kellyscorvettecorral4038 there is a plug on top of pump to open up pour some heavy oil in if that does,nt work install grease zerk pump about twent strokes grease in pump that should do it should be plug on top of filter hsg to run press ck

      @@charlietanner6211 Thanks we did that but no luck. We ended up taking the steering pump off. Found the seal between the two pumps was shot. Man that puppy was hard to remove with the filters in the way and not taking off the tanks.

      Well actually i did hire a mechanic for the parts i didnt have a big enough press for, they screwed it up and cost me a bunch of money, not saying i would have done better though. Besides that i got it all back together on my own and it works great.

    Question for ya: If a tracked 955L is moving at 10 mph across a field how fast are the pads moving that are on the ground?
    Answer: 0 mph they are planted on the ground and the 955 rolls over the top of them; however, once the pads are lifted off the ground they move across the field at the same speed as the 955 but roll over the undercarriage twice as fast.

      I suppose that unless you are spinning the tracks, the pads actually don't move at all with relation to the ground. They are pulled around the rear sprocket and the rest of the undercarriage rollers, and move across the field at 10mph with the rest of the machine. The pads on the ground are pushed directionally at a rate of 10mph, and as long as the track retains traction, the machine alone moves at 10mph in whatever direction resulting in zero actual pad movement. But of course the pad remains connected to the chain which gets pulled around the undercarriage sprocket, idlers, rollers, etc to repeat said process when put into contact with the ground over and over.

      Good information on the forums! I just got through reading it. I really think I have the same problem here. Best I can tell my loader is a 1978 955L. I can't find a single number on it. I have to replace the turbo and fix the turning problem. Everything else looks workable. Got it from my wife's uncle for scrap. Maybe I can get it fixed without to much money.

      @@stephenlee1519 Sounds like you got a great deal! It would be hard to say for sure what your clutch problem is until you dig into it, lots of things along the chain that could cause the problem. The number on my machine and others ive seen is located behind where the rops attach to the machine on the front passenger side. You will need that number to get parts unless you can find the part number off the things your pulling off.

    Go buy yourself a Dewalt Impact Gun and a set of Impact (Black) Sockets- which dont shatter hence safe with an impact gun. Save ya loads o time and heart ache
