An outside perspective is refreshing. Been many times I'll listen to someone else's song and think of how I'd play it differently if I wrote it but then go to play something new for myself and just get stuck like writer's block.
Yo that Trimontium riff was fucking UNREAL. Super sick Suffering Hour type shit. They knew what they had and wanted to show it off🤣 Definitely gonna check em out now!
Trimontium has potential. A lot of dark progressions, it just needs to be broken up or allowed to breathe a bit. Maybe some syncopated gallops/trem picking in between to keep it interesting. The last riff in the video reminds me of something I would hear from Soul Embraced "Immune" album.
That trimontium riff reminds me of a band from Queensland Australia called portal who play that "avant guard" technical death metal and they fucking slam
That Trimontium riff just needs a little articulation work to get it sounding tight. It rings together so much that it's overwhelming. But the riff itself is really cool.
Yoooo that Trimontium went hard, love that stuff! Checked 'em out and they have a 4-track ep on bandcamp, sick. I think I may have to send something your way, this is a sweet idea for a running series.
for the first riff, the orpening riff of My Curse by Killswith Engage is a perfect example of this exact pacing from 02:53 , just sounds to be the perfect example (to me at least)
This is great perspective into riff composition. I know a lot of concepts but hardly ever tie them into each other like this, and my musician friends can't verbalize the thought process that takes a riff and modifies it through different drafts.
I love this idea. This series is gonna help my songwriting, I can see it now. I've been looking at Riffhard for a while now, and now that you're on board, I might have to pull the trigger. It's looking like just too much good information and knowledge to pass up at this point...
What an awesome idea for a series! This immediately inspired me to pick up my guitar and start writing and finishing old stuff I've never done anything with.
That look on your face at 8:31 is perfect. That reaction was the same as mine. I was thinking "Oh shit, we got a live one here!" at the same time hahaha.
I think the most important thing to takeaway from these videos is seeing how you fuck around with ideas and sounds. I know my biggest struggle is not having a sound in my head and certainly no idea how to find it on the fretboard.
Ok, this is my new favorite "series "!!!! I've been stuck with some riffs for a minute now. This totally helps me see options I just wasn't thinking about.
@@DariusFisback I tend to just play along to a drum track until I come up with an idea then run it. Thanks its good to get some recognition its so hard to get noticed on TH-cam or Instagram
Dean do you have a loop device of some sort? I ask because I think it would help to apply your ideas after establishing what the viewers riff in real time. You can record the riff and then while that's looping you can play over it and overlap your riffs on theirs'.
Hey Dean. I want to thank you and Archspire. You guys, along with Lorna Shore, quite handily got me into Deathcore. I do write my own music, but I don't use Guitar Pro. Never figured it out or was taught how to write on it properly. So I use TabIt. I can do a video recording of the music, if you think it would be good for this series. Been playing for over 15 years, but sadly I've yet to get beyond 0, 2 (1), 3 (4), 5, 7 ,8 notes on playing, and am stuck in a major rut with writing. I'm decent at it, but lack outside input atm. Let me know if interested. I write metal, edm, and core-ish songs. Lol.
Which riff was your favorite?
Vics was mean
definitely the one at 4:00
I liked Vics 5 minutes in
Crazy train
@11:20 was brilliant 👏
Don't let these tasty riffs distract you from the fact that there are now two episode 1's of Lamb's Chops
Man i cant wait for Archspires next avant garde black power metal album with vaguely familiar riffs.
I think this new series is highly valuable, because it gives us insight into how to take our ideas to the next level! You're awesome Dean!
An outside perspective is refreshing. Been many times I'll listen to someone else's song and think of how I'd play it differently if I wrote it but then go to play something new for myself and just get stuck like writer's block.
Hey! You said my last name correctly! Switching those bars to 7 was super cool. Thanks for checking it out and giving an old riff new life!
I loved your riff man. Very Children of Bodom sounding
@@awguitarroom8033
Thanks man!
I was going for an Angel's Don't Kill vibe. I just never got around to using it
@@Rain593 thats one of my favorite songs. No wonder I liked it so much. You got some skills man
Great job Brother!!! 👏
I heard Arrival era Hypocrisy
5:52 9mm parabellum bullet-inferno
That time signature change you did to the riff at 10:40 give it so much more of a Katatonia feel. This series is fun.
05:00 tbh this is probably what people hear when i show them archspire for the first time
This is actually a great format
Yo that Trimontium riff was fucking UNREAL. Super sick Suffering Hour type shit. They knew what they had and wanted to show it off🤣 Definitely gonna check em out now!
Reminded me a little bit of Haunted Shores
Ayy, cool series idea! The very first riff was surprising, because it sounded so simple at first, but there was more theory to it than I was expecting

Absolutely. That black/tech death combo works surprisingly well
That trimontium riff reminds me of a band from Queensland Australia called portal who play that "avant guard" technical death metal and they fucking slam
Well, I do listen to Portal but I never had in mind their sound when writing this riff. It was more of a fast Deathspell Omega inspired thing.
@@viki2133 Yeah not that you mentioned that I do hear that influence, it's super sick and I do hope that the project continues
@@sethmartin8038 it will, you have my word :)

watching you turn that first submission from 4 basic chords to some really flavorful stuff was inspiring. Would love more of these.

Glad you liked it. Stay tuned for the full length next year
@@viki2133 I am looking very forward to that, awesome. Cheers!
Check out Imperial Triumphant
@@fromthesky1050 I'm very familiar with them, but nice choice.
Yeah, listening to the EP now and it's pretty wild.

This week, dean learns the most complex music you've ever written in 2 mins! This is a really good series dean.
Dude Spackman's song was great. I love Power metal/melodeath, would love the hear the whole song or an album.
This is great perspective into riff composition. I know a lot of concepts but hardly ever tie them into each other like this, and my musician friends can't verbalize the thought process that takes a riff and modifies it through different drafts.

Spackman gave me Malmsteen vibes. Great series, looking forward to more.
After you modified that last riff, it sounds more dissonant to me, which is cool as hell! I got a Hypocrisy vibe from it too
That power metal song has Kalmah written all over it, and Im here for it. Would like to hear the full version.

It's such a pleasure to listen to musician, who knows what to say, what and where to use.

Wow thanks for the mention love your music I struggle to play alot of your riffs too haha
Trimontium's riff is geniunly good and fresh. Can't say the same for most youtube musician submissions
3:30 Shylmagoghnar, Emergence.
Another amazing format, cheers Dean, this will motivate so many people!
That second submission sounds fucking awesome
I get your name 💀
Love the concept, keep em coming!
That second riff was chaotic lol
Cool to see you take ideas and run with them rather than just learning 1:1. Helps people see how they can do the same.
This is an awesome idea! Really like the format. You're a wholesome man, Dean. Love listening to you talk about music while I have my morning coffee!
Ok, this is my new favorite "series "!!!! I've been stuck with some riffs for a minute now. This totally helps me see options I just wasn't thinking about.
That dude from Bulgaria had some really sick DSO/portal/ulcerate vibes. Love that kind of dissonant riffage
Dean can't get enough of adding in flat 6s and honestly same
It's just makes chords better!
Dude, I absolutely LOVE this style of video so much! You are quickly becoming my favorite music TH-camr
Dude that last tip was great. It was cool to hear the subtle shift after adding in the bars of 7/8
love and HONOR BLOOD AND GLORY
I wanna see more Lamb's Chops goddammit
Michael Spackman's riff was awesome.
Thanks it means alot

Super cool format Dean! Amazing to see how your musical mind works on someone else’s ideas...really cool!🤘
This is great! Thanks for sharing, happy to subscribe!
oh i love that format
This was great and I'm gonna look up that Spackman dude, that was great.
THanks
Lamb's chops is just a wonderful title. Great video as always!
I'm a drummer but I thought this is a great series. Do more Dean!
Super cool stuff, Dean!
Ooo I like this serious! So cool !
Super cool of you to do these bits. Really grateful for you and Claire's content and hope you guys are well/relaxing for the holidays

Awesome idea for a series and the execution is done perfectly as well! Cant wait for the next episode!
Amazes me a lot of stuff is deliberately outside the chords. Badass
This is awesome. Brad's riff was a time machine for at least me.
Hey man this is a solid series idea. Love it. Thanks and have a good day
That first intro gave me very Devin Townsend vibes, loved it.
dude you are fucking sick your riffs are brutal
Trimontium sounds dope. Sounds like Deathspell Omega with an almost archspire-y flavor!
Great series idea man. Thanks
I love this new series! Yay!
Awesome great music song playing guitar. So sound roll and rocking. 🤘🔥
I love this 🖤
Fantastic! I'm loving this series for both content and title
Great playing man .
1:44 Seeegaaaaa 😎 I know you can hear it now 😅
Hey Dean, really becoming serious about writing riffs lately and plan on sending you one soon. Great series, super helpful!
Awesome name choice for this series. Made me laugh out loud.
A beautiful title for this series!!!🤘👽🤘
Great idea for a video series! Keep up the good work!
Absolutely Love this idea.
6:00ish is excellent songwriting advice. Have to be able to hear the music like a non-musician and lead the listener
I hope you do a hundred more of these. Loving all the content. Will be submitting soon.
Damn that last riff is a cool combo of melody and CHUNK
2:31 sounds like an arpeggiated version of “pyramid song “ by Radiohead lol
This is such a great video idea
Great news series Dean! I'll be sending you some of my riffs.
Dean, you need to take a look to Deathspell Omega “kênóse” 😎
Ooh, going to need some mint sauce for these juicy Lamb's chops.
I think this series will be fabuloso.
Love this series already!
Sick new series! Adds a bit of variety to the usual content :)
Fuckin lost it at the reaction to the 2nd riff
bought tickets to see yall in april cant wait
Same here going to Michigan in may to see them can’t wait
12:17 stevie t moment here! do a solo over the riff!
