Nice face zoom at word "Djent"
Dmitriy Chebotaryov hahaaa🤣I was laughing too...
I LMAO'd so much. That disgust in his face 😂😂😂😂
_REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE_
When?
@@krinkedsurface between 4:00 and 5:00
It's pretty nice to hear a djent guy essentially go "it doesnt matter if it's simple, as long as it sounds cool"
bruh djent is literally a genre defined by single note chug breakdowns lol
@@RyanReeves-ic4rx tell me you've never listened to djent without saying it
This is such a great video to explain how to write this kind of music. I realise now some of the things I’ve been doing subconsciously
6:06 guys... so good
Great job explaining that in a way that's easy to understand, and for we guitarists watching to relate to the way we already view playing! Made perfect sense.
Yeah, I just do the thing and this godly riff appears, it's simple really
Damn
the editing at 4:33 was phenomenal
also great informative video from one of the masters of the art!
All they did was zoom in bruh
@@anson2457 I think you should find a dictionary and look up the word joke.
@@anson2457it was phenomenal bro
Great lesson! IMO odd note-groupings and the rhytmic manipulation stand out the most in this riff, keeps it fresh.
Please keep providing us mortals these lessons!
"It sounds like guitar hero looks" OH SHIT That makes total fucking sense. The whole band seems like real down to earth dudes, I heard you were playing live in London last month on the 9th. I was at Toska's gig next door but you are now on my list to see.
I actually never thought to just play out the chords first and then go from there that really helped, thanks!
"just find something to pull off to, it's something I do a lot." I laughed a little to hard at this
does anyone know if anything became of the "Instagram riff"? I think it's one of the dopest riffs ive every heard.
Came looking for the same bub lol
Probably either gonna be on moray Pringles next release, or Olly's elusive solo ep
He actually teaches it on his newest Masterclass on Riffs from JTC Guitar. Except instead of a 7 string he’s on a 6 string in Drop D
He looks like Greg Howe's son.
duuuude thanks its been bothering me
Billy Nord Oh. My. God.
WTH you talkin about? i know Gregs son and he doesnt look anything like this guy!
This is either a very poor and stupid troll or you're not the brightest...

4:33 LOL
We need this guy to be the permanent host of this channel.
I bought the same iron label 7 string about 6 years ago and just so happened to quit playing music by the time I got it. I am finally getting around to playing it and I am not mad that I got it! I kept it in a nice case and clean all this time. I love the guitar
Djent made Greg Howe young again.
As soon as he started casually playing that sick fucking riff like nothing.... **** eyes widen***
This is precious! So many simple and effective ideas condensed in 9min. Amazing!
You really should have guitar classes cuz you explain things so well plus you seem so chill
'' because , DJENT '' , I DIED hahahaha
I saw them 4 weeks ago live in Mexico City and this guy is freaking amazing, he plays awesome and had some "kinda-dancing moves" that keeps you entertained while watching them. All of them are really great, Monuments is such an underrated band.
idk if I just saved this video or this video just saved me
This is super useful and I keep coming back to it
Considering how much i've studied, and how much i don't really know what he is saying ... man i just wanna start to cry

An instrumental EP would be sickkk👍🙄
This kind of music always confuses me, but you broke it down to something that is easy understood. I'm definitely gonna try something in my new songs
Monuments have pretty underrated guitarists and while I love the band, it doesn't show their true potential. At least I think so. Will see how Phronesis turns out. Super cool video!
It sounds like how guitar hero looks 🤣
David Munn its funny because i know exactly what he means by that 😂😂😂
:jasonparadise enters the chat
That’s really cool Olli!! 🤘🏻😎 Like the popping open strings!!😉👌🏼
Some really smart ideas here, thanks!
I love that guitar!
Haha "sounds like guitar hero looks" was the best description.
I'm going to go and find something to pull off to. Brb
keep practicing hope i can play like this someday.
"Find something you can pull off too, I do that alot"
Love this dude. Good shit!! Thanks.
Whoa cool guitar man! I got one of those myself. I love it!
Good god, I learned so much from this! Thanks for this :D
That's a dope ass riff dude
*zooms in
"Because djent..."
Thank you so much!!!
holy cow.... this is exactly how I write some of my riffs!!!
Love the video and the riff! Struggling to figure out the tuning. Not used to 8 string drop tuning. Can you please tell us what tuning you're using. Going to check your band out! Sounding dope.
Olly's a cool lad
Omg I finally get it finally understand prog-metal, your explanation is awesome
Great video, I must check out monuments
wow crazy!! ^^ very good i use for my channel thx!
any tips on getting that amount of power and tonality from clean tapping riffs? i always find myself hitting my tubescreamer to help get the notes out. Do I just have pussy hands?
Amazing, dude
olly's been a big influence on my writting style for a while now. just has some sick melodic ideas man
2:04 'Find something to pull off to. That's something I do alot.' ...
Way to go Olly, love it
I like the way this guy thinks. Cool video
"... because Djent" .. that said it all, no need to explain.
Bounced on my boys pull-offs to this for 9 minutes.
Ladies and Djentlemen, shred time!🤙🏻
What's the name of the song? The video is amazing.
damn good craftsmanship!
As a new player, this was frickin useful
Great video!
"Find something you can pull off to."
Awesome!
Some Aaron Marshall type stuff
What tuning is this??
Monuments usually tune in 7-string drop A#.
The lowest string is an Ab, and he plays fifth power chords by barring one finger over the low strings, so i would assume it is regular drop Ab.
G# would be the lowest
Amazing lesson, 10q 🤘🖤
Bruh check the captions when he says 'Gear Gods' the beginning
Great job 👍🏽
I lost it at because "djent"
Sweet-ass video, always interesting to hear about the process behind "weird" riffs. Just seems impossible to write sometimes.
Im always finding new things to pull off to...
Is the tuning for this similar to Celeste? or is this drop G#?
awesome guys
what guitar tuning used in this video
What key and scale/mode is this riff based on? When it comes to improvising stuff on the guitar all I know is the major and natural minor scales.
You are good man
How has no one mentioned his Spite shirt?? Fucking loooooooove Spite 💀💀
CRazy riffage. 👍🎸
Golden nuggets
What is the tuning that he is using?
Mind sharing your helix preset ? Sounds sooo tight !
Has he made a full song of this
Awesome 💯👍👍💙
SPITE CULT nice shirt
I'm calling it, a track entitled The 'Jorts' Song or an equivalent.
Olleye steyeellee
❤
Could this be tabbed out? It sounds really cool & would love to study this technique more in depth.
challenge yourself to learn it without the tabs! it's a great way to improve
Taylor The Warlock very great way to improve, very strenuous and tedious, but it definitely opens your mind up and gives you new ideas
tuning?
What tuning does he use? Is it used throughout Phronesis?
what kind of that Ibanez is that it looks so cool
Nevermind I found it if anyone was wondering it's called the RGDIX6MPB iron label
As a vocalist who has to write all of his own music and isnt amazing at guitar, this helps build riffs better
What is the guitar tunning? 🙏🏿
i think you do it good👍
I want you as a teacher!!!!!!
Can anyone describe the sound he is getting? It’s such a nice slappy yet a bit dirty but also clean. Seems like a bit of reverb but what sort of head / cab combo? I’ve got a Marshall code if that helps
The fundamental thing for this type of sound is a single coil pickup, or a humbucker in split position.
You probably want some amp model in a crunch type of setting. Try setting the gain at a level where it's almost breaking up, but not quite. Set it so that it breaks up when you hit the strings hard, and then pick accordingly.
Hope that helps!
"because djent... " lol
which scales do i have to learn for this?
WhT song is this
