  • We take some of the shot shells we reloaded in and earlier segment out to the range for testing. One load turns out to be a WINNER.

    Wow that's great. I need to remember that, 15 pieces of 7.5 shot at 15 feet. Thank you for taking the time to do all that work! That was a very nice pattern and should provide excellent performance against rats around here. I'm thinking that no. 7.5 may provide a little more penetration too, since it's just a touch heavier than no. 9 shot.

    Update here: I had a bunch of no. 8 shot here at the house and started using that. I'm getting basically the same grouping you're getting with 15 pellets of no. 7.5, but I'm using 17 pellets of no. 8. It works much better than the factory loads, and at snake distance (about 12 feet), it's delivering a very nice 3" spread, fairly dense and definitely going to do the job!

      That’s good to know. The factory shells are number 9 shot but I feel that’s a little light.

    I have exchanged barrels from my Gamo Express shotguns, to my whisper fusion pro & my Gamo Big Cat 1400... As I suspected... The bigger, mush stronger 33mm powerplant of the Gamo whisper fusion pro & B.C.1400 produced an average of 967- 980 fps across my chronograph from the little Gamo shotshells...& a HUGE increase in effective shot range.(20 yards).. a tighter pattern at longer distances with noticeable better penetration....

      you're welcome.
      There are 2 things that really effect the performance when the barrel is switched.
      1. The cheap plastic wad smears & piles up on the inside of the barrel from the higher air power so a metal cleaning brush is a must to keep up performance.
      2.The breach seal is thinner on the bigger power plants so the breach must be closed with the barrel aimed downward so the back of the shot shell doesn't fall out & rip the breach seal.
      HAPPY SHOOTING.

      The big cat 1400 is a 20 fpe gun,, a gas ram conversion would get the viper to 20+ fpe too

      As I remember, I was unhappy with the patterns those loads were giving. The patterns were inconsistent & the pellets tended to cluster leaving large voids. I’m hoping to get an updated reload video out soon illustrating what I’ve learned through additional trial & error.

    We have an invasion of Red Headed Agama, Curly Tails and other lizards here in Florida. I have been looking for an effective and safe way to get them in a very tight urban environment (RV Park). I am going to check your segment on reloading the shells for sure. I will need small, maybe 3 inch pattern at 15 to 20 feet.

    This will be interesting to try in the chicken coop at night 10 to 14 feet is my distance. A red laser on my Marauder pistol is great fun but the pellets tend to ricochet a bit depending on what it hits. The biggest rats are dead instantly with a 14.3 gr pelllet going 660 fps.
    Your reloads only work in break barrel guns right? Because of the length. Ill have to measure a 22 lr case to see if i can drill the base out to let air thru then run the cleaner pellet wad trick. .

  • @johntanner611
    @johntanner611 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Love your videos Al, I just ordered a viper express and I was thinking about reloding the shells as well. I was thinking about using #12 shot that is used in .22l lr rat shot. What is your thoughts on that? Do you think that would preform better because it would be more shot for the same weight and maybe will pattern better and boost velocity? Could you try re loading some with different shot sizes, especially un conventional sizes? I appreciate it! Also, are you going to upgrade your viper express with a gas piston?

    I found myself reloading with cardboard or small wrapped tissue on each end and using 4 steel bb's...noticed it's not as accurate...is there's sometg8ng I'm doing wrong????

    • @AlsAirguns
      @AlsAirguns  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm not sure. You might try adding a buffer like corn meal but at 4 steel bbs you already have a pretty heavy load. I'm assuming the 4 bbs lean you at approximately 20 grains which is heavier than the standard 17gr of factory ammo.

      @@AlsAirguns please do explain what you mean by adding a buffer by using cornmeal?.. thanks......excuse the response earlier...after watching this vid and using 7.5 leadshots, I was not seeing the results because I was stuffing to the top instead of using the 15 or 16 leadshots in the shell.... I shot from 10 feet. And got GREAT RESULTS.....also, used small tissue at bottom of shell and punched out cardboard at the top ......the BEST RESULTS using #7.5 leadshots, about 16 total bb's, and tissue on bottom and cardboard on top!!!) From 10-12 feet this is the best results for small game!!!

      @@lamardaniels6625 im pretty sure he means pouring in cornmeal to fill any gaps between and around the bbs. If you look up buffered buckshot it will show you the concept

    • @AlsAirguns
      @AlsAirguns  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, Peter is correct. I was suggesting using a small amount of corn meal to fill the spaces between the pellets. Modern firearm shot shells offer employ synthetic media in the same way. This prevents deformation and pellets sticking together, plus tends to tighten patterns.
