Good one mate, very clear, but you really sped it up around rebuilding the plunger, and does the plunger need to be set at certain height ( looks like it’s got adjustment )
Great. Thanks for replying- I have a 300SL 1988- the fuel mixture is very rich, keeps fouling the plugs with soot, tried adjusting the mixture screw but no good. Could the fuel distributor need overhauling? The had been sitting for a couple of years - any thoughts please. Thanks
@@donjohnson4368 my suggestion is firstly to check to make sure that the warm control pressure is correct after warm-up. If the control pressure is too low after warm-up the air/fuel mixture will be too rich the whole speed range and that can cause the spark plugs to be flooded with fuel.

So ive been browsing hoping to find someone who applies sealant to the halves. I cant seem to keep mine from leaking. Im doing mine on a benz but you and i donit exactly the same way and i also get my kits from missing.parts.

Seems to work fine so far. Little Porsche is idling rough for the first time in 10 years. Now sadly it looks like my stem seals/ valve shaft seals are leaking oil, thus my car sounds like a 1.9tdi and is leaking oil in exhaust pipe
From factory they don't come with any sealant... It's common practice to seal two halves with a thin film of sealant if taken apart. I tried to not use any, and once tested I can add it if necessary.
They didn't came with the kit, and they are metal mesh that can be cleaned. But I'm missing one so I'll put all new before I put the distributor back on.

Well, they do make rebuild kits so you can take it apart or send it to them for a rebuild. They advise to not use any sealant at first...if it leaks you can seal two surfaces with Loctite 518 or similar.
It has come to my attention that there shouldn't be a spring behind the plunger on these cars. So if your car doesn't have one, you're good.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm getting ready to do this job. I've ordered a rebuild kit from a place called Sierra Madre Collection.
I just noticed this comment now. I searched for over an hour around my workbench for a spring that wasn't there in the first place! 🙂
