You have some of those capacitors on backwards. They are polarised, and the thick white stripe on the side of the capacitor needs to go on the same side as the white semicircle on the PCB.
Having them installed backwards means they won't work, and the ones that are installed the right way around will be under a lot more stress.

@@TheRealNZgeek lol thanks for info 😁😁 you know i actually did think about that when i removed old caps. I was thinking like “ is there a specific orientation these should be in” buuut just forgot about it 😁 I need to keep that in mind for future 👍🏻 thanks for watching !

Lol bud, you installed 2 out of 3 caps backwards, only 1 of them is actually functioning. The cap has a white stripe to mark the negative side of it, the PCB has either a plus sign to mark where the positive side goes or in this case it looks like the PCB has a band for the negative side. Either way the PCB has them all facing the same direction and yours are not. Other than that caps are easy, 350C-400C is fine but there's no need for flux on stuff like that, the solder has a bit of flux inside the core.

@@blazini thanks for the tips 👍🏻 yea I just figured I put them backwards hours ago lol 😁😁 I did think about orientation when I removed old caps but in the end thought it does not matter especially since it actually worked haha. Need to keep this in mind for future 👍🏻 thanks for watching!

@KimTe63 there are non-polarized caps like ceramics...electrolytic caps are polarized....which means 1 working cap got you going. You should redo that asap

    Broken OG Xbox?
2 main failures to check is the clock capacitor, and the copper lanes underneath the motherboard that goes to the socket for the power on button and eject button.
If it doesn't powers on, those lanes have usually corroded away due to the clock capacitor's leakage and needs to be bridged.
Have fixed my own Xbox and a friend of mine that had these two faults.

@@draxoronxztgs1212 thanks for the tips . I have had only this 1 and crystal Xbox fail so far and in my cases replacing caps like in this video fixed them 👍🏻 however I have had issues with discdrives in the past

At this point, do a full replacement of every cap, it gonna be costly but it gonna grant you many years without opening it again, or worse, dead pcb traces. BTW, nichicon is one of the best capacitors brands, microsoft did a great choice for consumers and for itself. If i have to replace capacitors, I try as much as i can to go with this brand or best well known brands (rubycon, elna, panasonic, ...). Samxon is ok, not the worst brand, it'll do the the job, but it's definitively not on the "buy it" list. Beside, thank you for this vidéo, i'll check mine and consider a full recap soon.

@@x689thanatos thanks for the tips ! I actually was looking to replace them with pretty much identical nichion caps but went with samxson only because those were readily available near me . Guess in the future I aim to go for those higher quality ones . Thanks for watching!

@KimTe63 Yea, it is a pain in the a** to get every capacitors from a specfic brand unless you are a professional and you often deal with profesional sellers. It can be difficult depend fromw here you live, but it might be interesting to look from professional electronic sellers. Here the best one is less friendly for non professional sellers, but they have literaly everything (i've 5 devices waiting for a full recap). I've never tooked a close eye about what microsoft had used for it's first xbox, but i'm gald they have not been cheap with what they've sold to the consumer. /thank you for you for sharing on this topic. The clock capacitor was well documented, but this is a new step to look about.

Also remove the clock cap! They tend to leak and destroy the board, but yours seems to not have leaked yet

@@colesyaj_tech yea I need to do that ! Thats one thing I already knew about but don’t know why I didn’t do it here lol 😁 thanks for watching
