I've been dreaming of a 48 with a larger fuel tank, drag bars and,...well...basically EXACTLY how you've set yours up. Very smart upgrades and mods. Very tasteful and well thought out. I'm going to build one very similar to this. Thanks for the great demo on your bike.
I just bought a 48 & a 4.5 gal tank. I put "Hollywood" bars on mine. Iam using Vance & Hines Long Shots without the baffles. It is my dream bike......I love the look, I love the power, the sound and now that I have the rear suspension "dailed" in...the ride is great. Thanks Frank....Your 48 inspired my build. Everyone who looks at it falls in love with it. The big tank and Hollywood bar combo completely change the look and many people dont recognize that it is a sportster.
Hey Frank, probably one of the best looking 48's ive seen, and you put a lot of effort in your video telling us about the mods etc even took it for a short ride, that's commitment mate, good work again, beautiful bike!
Finally someone who knows how to go over a bike. You explained everything you did to the bike and what the part was called, as well as started the bike up for a decent amount of time, and drove it so we can hear the exhaust. Great video
One of the 1st videos I reviewed when deciding I wanted to ride again. Looked at 48’s, 1200 customs, nightsters as well as Adv bikes and settled on a modified and lowered 14’ XL1200C. A lot of my decision was influenced by your bike. It’s beautiful.
not sure if you realize but Vance and Hines should pay you an appreciation for the popularity of their short shots. This video, no doubt, made them millions.
Hey Frank just wanted to say thanks for posting this video. Because of your vid, I bought this tank for my 48 and I love it. J&P should be giving you a % of the sales. For anyone interested; with the 2.1 Peanut tank the low fuel light came on after about 60-70 miles. Now (depending on how I ride) it's about 130-150 miles. It was on back order for a while so I got on the email list and as soon as it was available I bought it and I've never regretted it. It looks amazing. Thx again Frank.
Edgar Olivo I'm not sure if that tank is still available. You may be able to get it from HD. No mods were needed. It did have to be prepped and painted though.
With the stock bars the mirrors will hit the tank so you have two options. 1) Put the mirrors on top 2) Angle the bars forward and rotate the hand controls so the mirrors can be useful. I angled the bars forward and it actually improved the view with the mirrors. However you are forced to lean forward. I'm planning on getting RSD Short stack bars to eliminate the lean.
gordon geary The ones in this video are drag bars and I'm not sure where he got them but I think he did mention that they hit the tank. There are risers available for the Forty eight and they may eliminate the problem. There is also a triple tree from Roland Sands for the forty Eight that give you the option to mount regular risers. I was thinking of trying them out as well.
+CyclopsRevolution Thanks for the info. I'm getting one next month and looking to do the same. However HD UK want to put this tank on for me: accessories.harley-davidson.eu/product/62999-07/sportster-large-tank-installation-kit-not-shown, as opposed to the JP cycles www.jpcycles.com/product/721-159 one. I really like the look of yours and @alanbarbs one, are you able to give me the measurements for comparative purposes? I like the shallow and fat muscular look of yours and Alan's, but can't not sure how this HD tank will look that they are proposing! Strange request, but thanks in advance if you can help!
Man, that bike's smooth! The mostly black single seat look is great. Those pipes sound fantastic and the darker lenses work much better with the black look. I think your best mod was the 4 5 gallon tank. I've never liked the typical small Harley gas tank.
@@1Serpico What mirrors did you use to be able to undermount them without them hitting the tank on a full turn?? I have the same setup and I am looking for the right mirrors! (i need chrome ones)

I ride a Low Rider and have been wanting to get a 48 ( absolutely love the 48's) to run thru town and the mountain's. That has to be one of the best looking 48 I have ever seen.
This is a really nice looking bike, I love all of the mods you've done to it. Also love the 4.5 gallon tank mod, that sounds like it would help out on long trips so much
From a guy here in Ireland I'm about to take delivery of a 48 and the tank and bars are the first to go. Alan your bike looks fantastic pal..a job well done. I like the bars... could you possibly tell me the diameter and length please. Thanks....
i've been looking at the sportster for a while but kept thinking it was too skinny, and the softail was too big, i currently ride an R6. Your customisation is absolutely amazing and has convinced me that the sportster is the right bike for me, providing i make it just like yours!
The problem I had with my 48 was mileage range. I had a stage 3 kit and could only go 50 miles per tank. The tank mod you did was great! I should have done that to mine. I'm now riding a Street Glide. You have a great looking bike!
hi. I think you've done a great job with your bike. I'm planning to upgrade my 48 tank soon. did you need to make additional mods to accommodate this fuel tank available at jpcycles?
Hey @Alan Barbs , my dad (who isn't very tech savey) has done some what of a tribute video to you and your bike. he really liked what you did with yours, and i just wanted to share his video with you. if you and anyone else who would like to check it out could comment and tell him what you thought of his build, you would make his year. That bike is absolutely gorgeous! I'm about to go buy a 48 next weekend. And I've been looking at bigger gas tanks as well. The one you have is pretty damn sleek.
Thank you for starting the bike up. I hate when videos don't do that. Obviously it's their bike and they can do what they want, but that's what people want to hear, and why wouldn't you want to show off the bike's sound, you know?
man that bike looks sick man. Most people i know leave the peanut tank on them because thats what the "fortyeight" stands for. I love the Drag Bar look too i think thats going to be my next uprgade.
its a really really nice job youve done Frank. It looks just great. I will copy this mod if you dont mind. Im living in Indonesia, its imposible to pay a visit to you and chat about that beast. Its just awesome. Safe riding bud!
Nice bike, it sounds AMAZING!!! I would have gone w the stock light and put a very slight yellow film on it for that classic nostalgic look... sweet ride man!!
If you ever want to change the front end go with the wide glide triple trees ,the stock forks will fit exactly in them.by doing that you change your front wheel size to a 16" front rim to fit the same size tire as the rear.where did you get the rear led light under the rear tin kit?
Great job on the forty eight frank, i went with the same v&h full staggered short shots, v&h fuelpak fp3 with autotune and joker machine hi flow intake on my '17 Xl1200X. Thanks for posting this video this tank is the business. Nice bars as well
