I can smell those pears, yum. Momma cooked down her famous pear preserves with the lid off, which required frequent stirring to prevent them sticking on the bottom of the pan. When cooled down the syrup would be so sticky it would pull loose teeth. I never understood how the pears held their firmness but they did. Never had any near as good since she left this earth. Many, many ppl who were privileged to receive a gift jar of her pear preserves have asked me for her recipe. I just laugh and say "there is no secret, just hours and hours of stirring". Recipe = pears, sugar, time...Not what today's busy homemakers want to hear.
Thanks for the memories, Lori. BTW: Your hair is beautiful today.

I used to do all this preserving but, I haven’t done any in about twenty years as I am by myself and my children are grown, gone, and eat McDonalds, lol but, watching some of the things you have canned I decided to start doing a little again so thanks for the urge again.

I’ve got 95 pounds so far and we have been canning maybe two more days I might put all my scraps in the freezer and make another batch of scrap jelly at another time I’m doing one now.🍐🍐🍐🍐🍐 I have canned years back, but I hadn’t done it in a while so I had to take a refresh course with y’all ladies

I am craving your pear preserves with some hot buttered buttermilk biscuits, Lori. We have a huge pear tree peeping over our garden as well as knarly old apple trees and a massive walnut tree that began growing in this garden in the late 1800's. We had just the prettiest plum tree as well until it was struck by lightning and split down the middle two years ago. It would be so heavy with plums each summer and I have really been missing it. This old medieval farm is over a 1,000 years old and is listed in the Domesday book by the same name it still bears today. Our house was two centuries old thatched roof cottages that were converted into one many years ago. I live with wonky floors and walls so thick that I can't even hear a heavy storm or a tractor going around to the barns. Open the window, though, and the noise is off the charts with the sound of sheep and cows, horses and geese and wildlife. I understand your love for where you are and for all things old and for things growing all around you...and the gentle tranquility it brings. We are blessed, aren't we?

I love pears. I remember my Mom used to make Mincemeat pies for Christmas or Thanksgiving. People thought there was real meat in them so some people wouldn’t eat it. LOL! I was pretty young then so I never learned how to make them. My Mom was always canning something, fruits and vegetables of all kinds. I wish she had taught me how to can. I’ve tried to learn to do it myself. Sometimes it worked and sometimes not. That’s why these videos you ladies put out are so great, and I’m older than you, but I was always working in the corp. world so my only hobby was painting and some sewing and raising my son. I did learn to cook and bake pretty well over the years, but canning was a mystery!

I’ve never heard of mincemeat cake and bread. We’ve just had mincemeat pie. One of Harvey’s favorites. Learn something new all the time! Thank you. I was anxious to see this video after watching the first part last night. 😃

I just found you guys this week and I'm so thankful I did. I have enjoyed yall so much. It reminds me of home and when I was still in the country. I love trees and country life but I had to leave and now I watch this and it brings it all back so beautifully. BTW, my momma used to make mincemeat pies but I was so young that I can't remember how she made them. Would love to see a video on them.Thank you two so much. God bless you both!

I made some today but I put them in my slow cooker on high. They made so much juice and it was just the pears and sugar that I had put on the refrigerator overnight. I had 16 cups of pears with 4 cups of sugar. Hopefully the juice will thicken up when they cool down. I ended up with 5 1/2 pints.

My pears are not going to set up, they are just to thin. After 40 years this is my first batch of jam/preserves that hasn't set......I am going to try the fix you suggested for Fred........I so hope it works. I feel like this is how my mother in law made preserves, as she tried to tell me one time. But not using pectin when I was just starting out and I was in my 20's was just to scary for me. Hopefully I can get these fixed.

I enjoy being in your home and watching you cook. I love to cook, been doing it for over 50 plus years. I like to think that I’m never too old to try new ways and methods. Thank you for sharing this way. I would love to watch you make the pear mincemeat. Also, you do Arkansas proud.

One of the reasons you stand apart from other preservers is you show how to use jarred items. I would love to see the recipes you make with the pear mincemeat. I made that for the first time this summer, and it's wonderful!

Where is the hubby to lick the giant jar? My poor pre-diabetic stomach wants sweet pears now. Great video. You look look like you are all feeling better. Blessings
