    I did some pear preserves this evening. A man in our church said he remembered his mother making them (he’s gotta be pushing 80 now, this man). That’s all I needed to hear. He didn’t have to ask me. If 6 jars of canned pears bring back memories of his mother for him, I’ll gladly bless him with jars of pear preserves. He doesn’t know I’m bringing them Wednesday to church. His wife knows though. 😇

    My daughter and myself have full access to our neighbors pear tree, and it's LOADED! We will be canning in about a week!

    Great timing!! A neighbor just gave us a bag of pears and my husband said he was going to maybe try canning some! Thanks for posting this at such a perfect time, hopefully ours will turn out as good as yours!!

    I canned pears and pear butter last week. I have about 18 small pears ripening in my spare room to can another batch

    I hope you made pear vinegar with the cores. So good.
    I like how you use your potato masher to hold your rings, mine are just thrown in a basket.

      I use the the potato masher to hang the rings to dry after washing them...it works great.

    Hi Toni - those are lovely pears and peppers that you bought. We used to have a pear tree in our yard - yellow pears - I really miss climbing trees to pick them - it was such a treat.

      nice. my neighbor us to have a cherry tree that overhung our property, so we were able to pick delicious cherries in season. they always taste better picked fresh...I miss that too!

    Beautiful pears Toni. We had a bumper crop of red and green peppers this year so we made up our stuffed peppers for over the winter. Thankfully the Extra Lean ground beef went back down in price. $3.99 lb. We purchased some yellow ones to include in our stir fry and shrimp bags for a glorious color mix. Finished my bushel of tomatoes and only 1 jar didn't seal after processing. Just waiting on our second bean crop, squash, and zucchini for autumn soup. Then, of course its the beets n carrots. I'm a little pooped so took a day off yesterday and did some baking for a change. Time to focus on a few quilt bindings
    and finish off a few Christmas gifts before I go at it again. Take care.

      Linda I would be pooped after all that too...ah, quilt bindings...a finished quilt!!!

    I canned some spiced pears yesterday. One jar did not pop. So I ate it with some ice cream. It was delicious! What do you mean by floaters?

    • @HerHomesteadSkills
      @HerHomesteadSkills  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      same as the peaches, when there is still air left in the fruit (or vegetable) and you can them they can float in the jar...peaches seem to be the worst culprit for that.

    Why are using peach sryup? Want that flavor?

    • @HerHomesteadSkills
      @HerHomesteadSkills  ปีที่แล้ว

      no, I'm using a "light syrup" for both the peaches and pears....made using sugar and water!

    Hi Tony great pears! Love how you stored your green bell peppers. How long can bell peppers last in the freezer?❤

    • @HerHomesteadSkills
      @HerHomesteadSkills  ปีที่แล้ว

      well we used the last of them from last year, so that's why I decided to freeze more!

  • @jalleman61

    What is a good recipe of simple syrup for at least 2 qts of product for peaches?😊

    • @HerHomesteadSkills
      @HerHomesteadSkills  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      for peaches a light syrup is recommended..that would be a 20% sugar to water ratio..you can also use less sugar if you want too!

    Im wondering why you like them unripened? Because theyre easier to peel? Do they still come out with good pear flavor? I just picked my pears and am trying to decide to ripen or not

    • @HerHomesteadSkills
      @HerHomesteadSkills  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      not unripened, but still firm..and definitely easier to work with, and yes they still have great flavor!

    • @HerHomesteadSkills
      @HerHomesteadSkills  ปีที่แล้ว

      nothing wrong, tastes just as good..it's just not as aesthetically pleasing.

    Would you believe me that I just can't find any pears near me! It is one thing I desperately wanted to can because my husband really enjoys pears through the winter and buying canned ones at the super market it's pricey now....I'm in Southwestern Ontario if anyone reads this and can spare some pears for selling at a fair price pls, let me know.😁

  • @nancy3853

    I love pears but they are so expensive here in United States fresh or canned doesn’t matter!
