I enjoy your content so much. You genuinely seem to enjoy cinema and I could listen to you muse about your favorites for a long time. To me sequels entail the rest of the lineup and not just the direct “part 2” for example the Harry Potter series got progressively better as the movies made progressively more money and received more funding. I think the key value for sequels would be finding a purpose to revisit your favorite characters in new scenarios that make sense and require even more growth from them to succeed. This in my opinion does not mean bigger or louder because as you pointed out a lot of the greatness of spiderman 2 was Peters inner turmoil to be in too many places at once. This is incredibly relatable to anyone juggling a job a family and possibly schoolwork. You named a lot of my favorite sequels so I’ll comment something unique an example of a movie sequel working against the mastery of the first film would be the Matrix series. That self contained spectacle has stood the test of time with deep philosophical thought and in my opinion still wonderful practical effects meanwhile the bombastic sequels undersell the mystique of the original with comically over the top shinanagans that didn’t convey character growth for our heroes. Thank you so much!! I agree with everything you mentioned--the best part about sequels are seeing your favourite characters in new scenarios that let them grow, like you said. I also think that the first Matrix was the best! The "there is no spoon" concept was really great and the first movie brought some really interesting philosophies that the later movies didn't quite live up to (I did like the Smiths fight in the second movie though 😅). And I also agree that the Harry Potter movies got better with each addition, the same with the Lord of the Rings trilogy too!

Personally I'd put Blade Runner 2049 in this list. A hot take for some, I'm well aware but BR 2049 did everything the original had and brought more to the table. The protagonist is more nuanced, the movie itself manages to be more nuanced than the original when the original is already so good. It's such a beautiful film.
Nice video! But I loved Mockingjay Part 1 and will die on that hill no matter what everyone says about it.

Firstly, welcome back after 5 months.
Secondly, Sonic 2 was a bit too much, but not enough for me. Jim Carrey's Eggman felt way worse in the second movie and Tails wasn't as good for me, but i had problem with the ending too. I didn't like that it had to have a bigger and more epic fight in the end. I think the journey is way more important, than the destination.
Thirdly, I wasn't alive when half of these came out, therefore i didn't have the feeling what people had when it came out, so for me The karate kid movies felt all the same, but the netflix series Cobra Kai really made me appreciate the movies.
Lastly, Sorry for my bad english i learned english by myself and it's not the best, but i hope i was still understandable.
Your english is great dw!! I wasn't born when the Karate Kid series came out either, but I'm glad the series is getting new appreciation! They're so much fun (except for the third one, I like to pretend it doesn't exist). Personally I liked Sonic 2 a lot, but I can see why people might not. Thanks for sharing your input!

Yay love your videos though I’m gonna have to disagree with you on Top Gun Maverick it’s either boring or it steals from Star Wars though the plane fights are good. Also Ghost Protocol is just not my thing I thought it was pretty bad I thought that Fallout was better. The best character in the first Paddington film is Peter Capaldi he’s just hilarious.
I'm usually not a fan of plane fights (even in Star Wars 😭), but I love the flight scenes in Maverick, truly the highlight of the movie! :) Also I agree that Peter Capaldi was hilarious in Paddington, he perfectly embodied the role!

Kung Fu Panda 2 is a really great sequel! I love the villain and how the movie expanded on Po's backstory; DreamWorks is really good at making sequels

@Renaissance man Same, the DC and Marvel movies feel more like products than movies lately, which is really a shame because they have so much potential! But yeah a worst sequels video would be fun, though I feel like that would be a long list 😭
@@StephanieKimPascaru I just watched Guardians of the Galaxy vol.3 and it was pretty good actually. (perhaps because it's removed from the current Marvel story lines). Here's hoping they (Marvel and DC) course correct and make sincere projects again, like the original Guardians, rather than forgettable nonsense like The suicide squad or Multiverse of Madness 🙄 Not even so much No way Home which is now the blueprint for likes of new Flash movie, which I don't even need to watch after seeing the trailers. Stay on their case with your wonderful videos as another voice for better quality media instead of the current spoon fed goo called entertainment! ☺
@Renaissance man Thank you!! 😊 Guardians of the Galaxy is my favourite Marvel series, I haven't watched the third one yet but I'm glad to hear that it's good! I agree with the Flash movie too, I'm not interested in seeing it since they're rebooting the whole universe anyway (it's nice that they got Michael Keaton as Batman back, but imo Flash should have a proper standalone movie without other superheroes). I think that with the backlash Marvel and DC have been getting lately that they will try to improve the quality of their movies again, so I'm hopeful!
