  • Join us on a game drive in the otherwise harsh desert landscapes of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier park. The park transformed into a lush green landscapes even covering the red sand dunes. It is a time of abundance that does not come every year. It is also understandable that we experienced the most amazing birds as well as great predator interactions from a Cheetah Kill to a Lion kill to many Leopard sightings All available on this video with its original sounds of the Kgalagadi. Turn up those speakers and feel as if you are right next to us.

    Great to see the rainfall was plentiful in the Kgalagadi too this year. There was an abundance for all. One my favourite sights after a rainfall was the sight of cobras on the road for a few days afterwards.

    I am from England. I last visited Kgalagadi in February 2020 when the drought was severe. Great to see the transformation from arid desert to standing water and green vegetation. Let us hope we do not have to wait another 25yrs+ for it to happen again.

    • @JoesCamera
      @JoesCamera  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is what it is. All the animals have adapted to the harsh conditions and actually prefer the arid habitat so if it rains like this all year we will not see this animals anymore. There are habitats for all kinds of nature . And with global warming presumably creeping up to us these animals will be the last to survive as they have adapted to survive without abundant surface water. So ya I prefer the desert to be desert.

    We hope to travel to the Kgalagadi in September, in your opinion Joe, with the region having had so much rain., what will be the effect on sightings by this time ? Compared to the usual dry dusty desert ?

    • @joelategan
      @joelategan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Andrew, by then the green will be long gone but there will be a lot of dry grass that could make spotting a little bit more difficult than with a green backdrop as animals here are mostly camouflaged for dry conditions. October November is my favorite time with end January but I basically don’t consider the season although to me the kalahari at its driest and harshest is the best photographically. So theres no reason that it should be worst than during the lush green in Jan, Feb and March. The natural water holes would be dried up so the manmade holes would be visited more than during the rainy season when animals drink everywhere in the veld from rain water. So sept is pretty much Kalahari landscape again and with all the lambs there would be plenty of food around for predators. In short no reason not to be exited about your trip it can in essence be very good. I can do a whole write up for you but it would be pretty dry again as the rain water evaporate at the speed of light in the kalahari. So you can get the same action as any other time . Animals must eat and predators must eat. The predator prey interaction cycle carries on. The resident animals will be much more due to the good population growth.
      So best of luck and keep me informed. Stay in touch may e we can catchup if Im there.

      Jeanette thank you for watching This is just a fun report back on game drives and is meant to have voice or human interaction. It is not a wildlife film. You can watch “This is the kalahari” film first up on the page. You cant please them all and after close to a million views you are the first to ask us to shut up. .. i always say Doing video productions is like the restaurant business that I am also in. You can cook the greatest meal there will be one that thinks his taste buds are the best thing since walking on the moon (not that this is the case with you) . We thus have to guide this carefully and then try and please most people although I am not a crowd pleaser I do what I love and those that associate must be inspired and those that dont must find something to their liking as it is impossible to please all. It must however be evaluated before one cook again ( or produce again) THIS VIDEO is going for 100000 views in a short time normally a indication that it is doing ok with our small niche in SA. But.. I will dedicate a video just to you at some stage and notify you as I do get your point.
      Just bear in mind we do a variety of genres within the kgalagadi. Some are wildlife films, some are plain report backs, some are photographic specific, some are competition related etc. Each requiring a different take. Sorry we couldn’t satisfy your taste buds this time. Please dont watch the April report back that will be uploaded on Saterday as it is my report back of how the environment changed from the lush green to the transitional phase and all the observations we made. Without voice I would not have had a production. I am workin on a new film that will have less voice (a followup to THIS IS THE KGALAGADI) . I think you will prefer this.
      All the best
      Joe
