- Follow us on our road trip safari through southern Africa's wildlife paradise Botswana. We drove through most of Botswana, including all the wildlife-rich areas like the Moremi Game Reserve, Chobe Nationalpark including the Chobe Riverfront and the Kalahari. We explored the Makgadikgadi salt pans in the center of the country, the Gcwihaba Caverns in the West and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the south. We also shortly ventured into Zimbabwe to marvel upon the majestic Victoria Falls. We were lucky enough to spot most of the big, and many small, animals which call Botswana home. These include elephants, giraffes, lions, hippos, kudus, oryx, ostriches, honey badgers, bat-eared foxes, serval cats, warthogs, springboks, impalas and many more.

How long did you travel?
We traveled for 7 weeks through both Namibia and Botswana.
When did you travel?
We started at the end of August and flew back at the beginning of October.
How far did you drive?
Around 13000km through both Namibia and Botswana.

How much did the trip cost?
Around 6000-8000 Euro for two people for seven weeks in Namibia and Botswana. Flights (1200 Euro), Car Rental (2500 Euro), Fuel (ca. 1500-2000 Euro), Accommodation (ca. 1200 Euro), Food (no idea, maybe 800-1000 Euro), Border Crossing Permits (ca. 200 Euro), Park Entry Fees (ca. 200 Euro).
How did you refuel/carry enough fuel?
Our vehicle had a long-range fuel tank, which allowed us to carry 140l. We refueled whenever we had the chance.

So True - I now live in a remote village in the north of England - but spent a lot of time visiting Botswana. A beautiful country, wonderful people, great nature - all-over, one of the world's finest tourist destinations. If you have a bucket-list of life's "to-do's", then add Botswana - you'll not regret it.

If you read my post you'll see that I was there in the "early 90's" and I was traveling - looking at game and habitats not immigration.

5:15 You were at Victoria Falls during the dry season. Go back after the long rains. It is one gigantic waterfall. Walking anywhere near it is like being in a rainstorm from the mist (you will get soaked) and it is so loud that you have to yell at the person next to you.
Oh, we absolutely believe that. Would love to go back at some point during the rainy season to see the full power of the falls!

By the bye, I have also travelled extensively like you (not just in Botswana, but also in Namibia, RSA, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Swazilalnd, Malawi, etc. - All by road only) All the countries are amazing! Each one has its own flavor, although they may look similar superficially.
You should try driving in the direction of Tsabong (Go west from Gaborone, Botswana)! That's the true "Kalahari Desert"!
