The Macrothele gigas or Giant Japanese Funnel Web spider is a very little understood spider with no real information regarding its care or husbandry and NO information on breeding these amazing spiders so we delve into an unknown world where anything can happen .

Me! Weird isn’t it! But I’m finding the more I watch and learn about them, the less freaked out I get.
I actually bought a little jumping spider last year to help with my arachnophobia and it’s really helped. I no longer contemplate burning the house down just to get rid of a spider in the bath tub 😂
There was a spider crawling on me once. To test my fear I left it alone. A few hours later I found a large bump on my shoulder where the spider was.

One time Dave was talking about noticing a small drip of venom on a New Zealand funnel web's fang when it was in a defensive posture, and he said *"she's drippin' and ready to go"* . That is pretty much the only time you wouldn't want to hear that combination of words. 😂

As a former tarantula breeder I can tell you having all the prey out of the breeding tank is very helpful. This breeding went almost the same way as most tarantulas. Congrats on keeping the male alive. Thanks for posting this great video.

There's an English word for such organisms: aggressive. Just because this word best describes them doesn't mean you don't have to like them anymore. @@yeahrightmate Defensive aggression. It's common place to use the term aggression in any form of it, But what we all know (or if not, should know) is that a spider's aggression is purely out of self preservation because they don't have emotion like anger towards someone for the sake of it lol
I can't possibly imagine the thought it takes to make someone want to own one of these things and call it a pet.
Every time I see a pairing video it makes me thankful I'm human. My wife may get angry with me, but she's never threatened cannibalism.

Tarantulas never really creep me out but these type of spiders just look demonic. Pretty cool creature though.

Dave I live in the Blue Mountains near Sydney. I once worked with a plumber who told me that he had to rip up floorboards to do some plumbing and when he shined his torch in the hole in the floor that he was about to drop into, he saw maybe 20 funnel web spiders all rearing up and going at each other.
I bet that was a sight 😂👍

mate that sequence of them just chilling around and being all calm and gentle did wonders to my arachnophobia. the best treatment is watching spiders just go about their stuff
I literally just spent 32 minutes watching a spider try to get lucky.
Also genuine question. Is it possible for spiders to imprint on people? I assume most of them can't, as they most likely work the same way as "reptile brain", where they eat anything they can't, that isn't part of their species, and also their own species if they aren't mating. But I was told that Jumping Spiders are VASTLY more intelligent than other types of spider?
@@TheMikesc15 There is a kinda jumping spider that can calculate distances and angles, not to sure about emotions, I've been told some are like cats in intelligence but idk if I believe it or not imo. None of my spiders gave me any special treatment. But a friend of mine had a goliath bird eater who would cuddle up in your hands and sleep.

Married men also live longer than un-married men on average. The opposite is the case for women. So women should be complaining about marriage if anything.

I've only seen a handful of spider/tarantula breeding videos, but I have never seen the female attempt to instigate like that. Certainly never seen one put herself in a vulnerable position like that. Very fascinating.
I survived the venom of a funnel web with no tourniquet. I survived a full 3 days and then antivenom came. It was horrible. I lost my flight or fight response and did not call an ambulance. I was vomiting buckets of phlegm and my heart was really pushing it and I was sweating and had fever. Just amazing I survived
That sounds very rough what an experience ❤

I used to be terrified of spiders, but after learning more about them, I just see them as very creepy friends. They eat everything I hate (like cockroaches and mosquitoes), and they respect our personal space (unlike the two that I just mentioned). They don't crawl into my mouth while I sleep like cockroaches do, and they only attack when threatened. Nowadays I don't even flinch when I see a spider. I feel surprised and then relieved that it's not a filthy cockroach. I love these little guys now.

I have a bad fear of spiders, but I find their webbing incredibly interesting. I mean they literally build a house using material their own body created. Imagine if you could use your saliva as a substance that could dry and harden into a brick or something. Amazing.

Most of them attack only as self-defence and if they don't feel you as a threat they will just crawl on you and that's it. People are scared cause they look intimidating.
