Interesting...I’ve always place my ears slightly inside of the triangle with the speakers actually aimed and centered on a point just behind my head, which i thought was standard. Is there an advantage to having the two channels arrive together in front of the ears? Tnx!

When you play that record and then the sound I just went crazy. Good stuff dude, good stuff.
I'm not surprised that you found the treble and mid-range particularly good. In the kitchen, with its tile floor, granite countertop and stainless steel appliances, that makes sense. In a living room or bedroom, with its carpeting, draperies and couch or bed, you would have a richer and fuller sound.
Nice! I honestly did not know the difference in monitors and speakers. I worked in radio from the late 80's to mind 2000's and we always had monitors in the studio and not speakers at every station I worked for but I never really thought about them being different. Even on the cleanest/acoustic setting there is always some nodulation. A friend recommended to get a monitor as output from my processor, as monitor would produce clean sound as processor is producing. Would you agree and recommend this setup? Electric guitar -> multi effects processor -> monitor?
You can buy neutral headphones to understand how the sound comes our from the multi effects processor, that’s what I do with my Line6. Otherwise such monitors will also do the job.
a bit confused here... if these hava a more flat response, why using them with a turntable? I was also considering for playing vinyls, but not sure of how they match with an audio technica lp120 in a small room. If I were to be seated in front, that wouldn't make sense, since these are not planned to be place in a furniture instead of the desktop...
Important tip if you're putting your turntable directly into powered speakers. If you have a CERAMIC cartridge (lesser quality, more stylus pressure -usually come with all-in-one systems or cheaper turntables - these can be plugged directly into the input of the powered speakers. MAGNETIC cartridges - more expensive, lighter stylus pressure, much better sound (more $$$$) require a phono preamp for correct sound (it increases the volume, bass and high frequencies) using something called the RIAA equalization curve. When records are cut, you can only put so much bass in a groove, otherwise it would jump out of the groove with a lot of bass....the RIAA curve lowers the volume of lows and highs when cutting the record, the phono preamp replaces them when you're playing back the record....and increases the volume of magnetic cartridges.. If you're investing in a record collection, magnetic cartridges are the way to go.... a ceramic cartridge will do serious damage and wear to a record with only a few playings.
Hiya. I'm interested in buying presonus 4.5 monitor speakers for mixing hardtechno on vinyl with technic turntables and pioneer mixer.! Would they be a good buy for my setup style.?
@@BBQ.BEATS.15 you connect them to your mixer. Your mixer has phono preamp built in. In that sense they will work. For bass heavy music I would recommend a subwoofer with these, but you can always try them and return them if they don't work for you
Towards the end of 2019 I was looking for some monitors to use at home with my DJ gear, mainly to help with track preparation and with my Akai MPC. I'd looked at things like the KRK and Yamaha as they seemed the most common. I wanted something small and portable with accurate sound reproduction. Watts was not really a concern as I have over 5k in things Like Alto monitors etc. Amazon reviews seemed to favour PreSonus and I wasn't really familiar with them, but thought I'd go for it. I just went with the standard 3.5, and they are amazing, pretty much the only monitors I need in my day to day use.
Do you think a digital piano would sound good using these speakers? I suppose you could alter the sound a lot with the bass/treble knobs if you weren't happy ? Nice video by the way.

Yes, these are for listening to music, assuming that they are sitting two to four feet away from your ears. Monitors are for use in the near field. Speakers are for use in the far field. That's why good speakers will be quite a bit larger. So if all you have is a small bedroom and you are listening to music while sitting at your desk, these are perfect. If you want to have good audio in a large, wide open living room, then no, this is not the right choice. But here is the thing... that nice, wide open living room will have set you back by half a million dollars to multiple tens of millions of dollars, right? So in that case you can most likely afford $1000-$100,000 speakers anyway. However, if you don't have that kind of money and you want "good enough" audio quality in a small setting, these mini-monitors are delivering an incredible amount of value.
I've just bought these and they sound terrific. I've placed them in my living room and they sound so much better compared to the 5.1 speaker set that came with my Harman Kardon receiver. I've hooked up my digital TV box to the line-in and my MacBook Air is streaming music through Bluetooth. My appartment is pretty small so these do very well here. No need for big unwieldy speakers. Not using a subwoofer either. I do have one here that came with the Harman Kardon speakers. And it's quite necessary when using the HK speakers. But in my opinion the E4.5's go low enough for my taste. My neighbours won't probably like a deep bass or high volume either. I live in an appartment complex after all. I'm not into music production. I just love listening to music. And my Mac streams Apple Music, Tidal and Qobuz to the speakers. Next to Internet Radio and my own music collection. They were 215 euro on Amazon, but totally worth it. My only regret. Wish I've bought them sooner 😀
Would you recommend them for someone who likes bass? I am not a bass for ignorant loud music, I am looking to hear bass lines in House music and Reggae Music. Would you say these are ok or good for that?
Actually, yes these would be better than almost any other option in their price point for that use. I’ve had them, and I used them once in a large open floor plan at a friend’s house, and they were still great. I actually sold a pair of these to an English teacher that was wanting a pair of speakers to show films in her class, and these will be much more clear and understandable for the students trying to hear whatever you have playing through them.
I have the 3.5 and I'm very happy with..the sound is so neutral, honest and nice..I love PreSonus speakers..and I'll buy a bigger one..but still thinking which one..thinking for an Eris E5 or the E5 XT..(also liked and subbed..) ;)
Great review, I have a question, I am guitar player. I am what they call a "bedroom musician", and I practice a lot with my headphones. I am using the beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohm Limited Edition Professional Studio Headphones, Black, they sound great, but I am looking a pairs that will replicate the sound of my amp modeling software. I am using TH3 by overloud, Amplitube 5.5. I am using the iPad 10. Would you recommend these speakers? I am also looking at the iLoud Micro Monitors. Thank you for posting this.
I heard there are many people complaining about hiss with Eris E4.5, but not really in this video, is that because the recording was made with a good distance away? Also, as comparison with the Eris 5BT 2nd Gen, has anyone experienced with it in term of sound quality, hiss, and comparision with Yamaha HS7 or Adam T7V. They are the one I am considering currently, maybe combined with a Sub like Eris 8BT, is that a good idea or it will give more hiss? Thanks for any input.
So ive watched a lot of comparison videos on presonus vs like mackies, m-audio, jbl, etc. My question is should i get the 4.5 or the 5s its not a big difference in price if the sound quality is there. I also like the fact the E5s have better wiring setup in my opinion
My 3.5s are literally on the way to my house via Amazon today, just ordered them yesterday! I make bass-heavy music so I’m curious to see what everything will sound like. I’m so so so excited! Gotta get to work 🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🏆🏆🏆
The 3.5s work beautifully with the Eris Sub8. Otherwise, with just the 3.5s, you don't get much below 80hz. The Sub8 goes to 30hz and makes it great...
Would these 4.5's and an 8'' subwoofer combo be overkill for a turntable? Or would you still benefit greatly from just getting the sub if you have a chance? (for a bedroom set up) Thanks for the demo!
these things produce enough bass you don't need a sub. unless you listen to the music kids listen to in their cars. i call them "earthquake on 4 wheels". lol : ))
I asked my uncle who is an audiophile for advice on computer speakers for some gaming, music and movies. I was going to get the logitech z623 but he told me to get these... Will they be as good or better than speakers for music and movies and my needs?
thank you!! gonna buy these speakers with my first turnable (audio-technica at-lp3) - will the sound be good if i sit in front of the speakers at a distance of 1.5m? (speakers next to the TV and i'm on the sofa) - will this be a good set-up? thank you if you answer!
great review, i was wondering i saw another one that got acoustic spacing option depending on where u put them in the room. is this a bluetooth vs non-bluetooth option or like a year/model based thing?
Bluetooth or not, if you're using these or any other modern active monitor set, your "analogue" signal is always being amplified by a class D digital power amp
Yes, it is, and it doesn't matter. Class D amplifiers are good enough for most people. Most people won't even know that their music went through the power chopper and even if they do, can they really tell the difference? I am not sure I could in a blind listening test.
Hello, thank you for this, im def picking this up even though MR4's price is a no brainer, it has rich sound(MR4) but i really prefer Eris' clear treble/vocal.
i have a pair of e5s has anyone compared these to krk or yamahas, i ask because i really want to get a pair of yamaha but don't know if the sound quality difference is worth the upgrade
Does anyone on here recommend these for music production? I use them just for listening to CDs. The bass seems exaggerated. (Maybe it's because of listening in a bedroom studio).
What kind of music are you producing? Orchestral? Jazz? Movie scores? Certainly not and nobody is suggesting that you should. Are you making a demo tape or some background music for a TH-cam video? Why not. Your demos will be judged by their musical quality and your video runs through a set of computer speakers or worse. So what's the harm?
Years later but looking now as a complete audio noob. Finally getting around to replacing some old Logitech X-220 speakers. I’m certain it’ll be a sizeable upgrade but man it’s been a struggle trying to find what’s the best “bang for the buck” at that $150-200 price point (based on Amazon prices at the time of commenting) explained in a way that a non-audiophile will understand Trying to understand all the nuance is like explaining string theory to a cat. I just want something that “sounds good” out of the box with no tuning or mess of adapters or intermediary interfaces for gaming and video media at my desk - no mixing or audio engineering, just wanting high quality sound for casual consumption in near field (I think?). I just wanna link some aux cables to my pc/game consoles It seems everyone you ask has a different answer for recommendations and it’s always adding the caveat that it depends on personal taste. But I have old cheap speakers with no sense of “personal taste”. It’s been incredibly hard finding general recommendations I think I’ve finally narrowed it down to either these or the e5 version paired with a good sub (which will be a whole new beast of research)
You might want to be telling your audience that unless there is a PHONO PREAMP built into the turntable or into the monitors themselves, you will need a phono preamp connected between the turntable and the main monitor. This turntable in this video has a magnetic cartridge, so a phono preamp is needed.
The Marley has a built in preamp. We have talked about this many many times and have reviewed many preamps as well as done instructional videos on how magnetic carts vs ceramic carts work.
For turntable usage, how would these compare to the Klipsch R-41PM? or the Presonus Eris e5 XT? Because I've got the Klipsch R-41PM on my main turntable/speaker (with the Audio Technica AT-LP120X USB) setup which sound great, I want a new setup for my other place, I'll buy the Audio Technica AT-LP120X USB again as I love it, and was wondering what speakers I should pair it with this time. Thanks!
I'd just like to point out that you referred to these "NOT speakers" as speakers several times over the course of your "These are NOT speakers" video. All kidding aside, Great job I have been looking at these, MONITORS, for while. Your video is helpful.
Am I wrong in thinking the Bluetooth version allows you to connect to a laptop wireless. Unlike the 4.5 you need it connected via wires. Cos what I wanna know is Can you connect both the 4.5 and 4.5BT to Bluetooth via iPhone?? Iv been reading mixed reviews!! And would like it clearing up before I buy! Thanks
i seem to like them better than the regular speakers, humans are WAY TOO obessed with BASE frequency and think they improve the resince frequencies of morphic fields becuase its nuteral. and it allows you to also hear the human in the song instead the "sins" being hiddon. now id like to get the subwoofer after upgrading my pc but i think i just caught a pregnant cat and gonna have to deal with that. only problem with the speaker monitors (but ALLmost all pc speakers while not studio moinitors ARE near field) cant really listen outside the next room over, so hopefully can get the plugs for a more spitty long range speaker i got but dont ahve cords. i also for whatever reason in addition to the foam feet put the outline itself of the foam feet in the middle lol.
These are excellent little monitors, but if you want something equally as good, and need a sub out, look at the Edifier R1280Ts, basically the same speaker, but with a sub out, for some deep bass once in a while when you're not creating, and just listening. Other than that, it's VERY hard to beat the value in these, maybe impossible lol.
You can get the presonus 8" sub and run a connection from it to these or the 3.5s for one of the best sounding, full range listening experiences I've ever, well, experienced.

any issues with humm noise?
none
Can i use this with the tv?
Sure
I have the 3.5 and I'm very happy with..the sound is so neutral, honest and nice..I love PreSonus speakers..and I'll buy a bigger one..but still thinking which one..thinking for an Eris E5 or the E5 XT..(also liked and subbed..) ;)
What do you use yours for
Great review, I have a question, I am guitar player.
Thank you....I DO think these would be good for that yes.
First I have heard of this.....mine never hissed thankfully. There was however a short whine sound when first powered on.
@@RecordologyThanks for the information :)
So ive watched a lot of comparison videos on presonus vs like mackies, m-audio, jbl, etc. My question is should i get the 4.5 or the 5s its not a big difference in price if the sound quality is there. I also like the fact the E5s have better wiring setup in my opinion
I have not tried them yet...I would go bigger if possible but these are indeed fantastic.
how much are these? i'd like to get a pair
this has helped me make my decision, thank you
My 3.5s are literally on the way to my house via Amazon today, just ordered them yesterday! I make bass-heavy music so I’m curious to see what everything will sound like. I’m so so so excited! Gotta get to work 🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🏆🏆🏆
What do you think of the 3.5s? I'm afraid that there is no bass with these small speakers
The 3.5s work beautifully with the Eris Sub8. Otherwise, with just the 3.5s, you don't get much below 80hz. The Sub8 goes to 30hz and makes it great...
👏👏“Round here!"🎼🎤🎸🎹🙏
@@Genii69 just done the same thing! If you like bass you need the sub8 😎
Would these 4.5's and an 8'' subwoofer combo be overkill for a turntable? Or would you still benefit greatly from just getting the sub if you have a chance? (for a bedroom set up) Thanks for the demo!
It would be an amazing bedroom setup for sure....
these things produce enough bass you don't need a sub.
unless you listen to the music kids listen to in their cars.
i call them "earthquake on 4 wheels". lol : ))
Thanks for the review! great information
My pleasure!
If I buy a audio technica at lp60x, and these, would I be good to go?
yes - perfect!
@@Recordology i was akso considering the edifier R1700BTs, do you have any thoughts on those?
I've heard good things about those - haven't tried them yet.
I asked my uncle who is an audiophile for advice on computer speakers for some gaming, music and movies. I was going to get the logitech z623 but he told me to get these... Will they be as good or better than speakers for music and movies and my needs?
These sound good but keep in mind they are near field monitors so they are designed to sitting close to the listener.
thank you!! gonna buy these speakers with my first turnable (audio-technica at-lp3)
- will the sound be good if i sit in front of the speakers at a distance of 1.5m?
(speakers next to the TV and i'm on the sofa)
- will this be a good set-up?
thank you if you answer!
That should be perfect!
@@Recordology
However I thought and ordered Audio-Technica AT-LP5x. Is this still a good set-up for the beginner?
great review, i was wondering i saw another one that got acoustic spacing option depending on where u put them in the room.
is this a bluetooth vs non-bluetooth option or like a year/model based thing?
Excellent question - I am not sure on that one.....
@@Recordology just got the one without bluetooth and apparently it’s a bluetooth/no bluetooth option
Ia good for musix production?
I would say so yes absolutely.
Will these operate from my Samsung Galaxy 21 ultra and my Hiby Dap in bluetooth
Thank you for the useful review!
Is it possible to connect these to an active subwoofer and make it all play via bluetooth?
BT for sure - possible I think as far as the woofer....
I bought them, sound really good to me. But what do I know. Just took an online hearing test and my hearing stops at 7400 hz.
I am not sure I could in a blind listening test.
get the non BT version it's AB class
@@funtourhawkGen 2 BT has AB amp
Bought these, stoked
Awesome!
How come you didn’t explain what near field means? Does it mean they’re for small rooms coz you’re near the speakers?
I think we discussed that in reasonable detail.
@@Recordology Ok, maybe I had too much 🥃 :) My bad. Will listen again. Thank you!
Love Presonus. I own the 3.5s and am planning to upgrade to the E5 XTs by the end of the year
Hello, thank you for this, im def picking this up even though MR4's price is a no brainer, it has rich sound(MR4) but i really prefer Eris' clear treble/vocal.
i have a pair of e5s has anyone compared these to krk or yamahas, i ask because i really want to get a pair of yamaha but don't know if the sound quality difference is worth the upgrade
I’m certain it’ll be a sizeable upgrade but man it’s been a struggle trying to find what’s the best “bang for the buck” at that $150-200 price point (based on Amazon prices at the time of commenting) explained in a way that a non-audiophile will understand
Trying to understand all the nuance is like explaining string theory to a cat. I just want something that “sounds good” out of the box with no tuning or mess of adapters or intermediary interfaces for gaming and video media at my desk - no mixing or audio engineering, just wanting high quality sound for casual consumption in near field (I think?). I just wanna link some aux cables to my pc/game consoles
It seems everyone you ask has a different answer for recommendations and it’s always adding the caveat that it depends on personal taste. But I have old cheap speakers with no sense of “personal taste”. It’s been incredibly hard finding general recommendations
I think I’ve finally narrowed it down to either these or the e5 version paired with a good sub (which will be a whole new beast of research)
Just got the 5's for my son. He says they are excellent. Go with the 8" sub they make.
So turns out I didn't know how to open a box. 😂
Why people recommend this for music production while it doesn't cover the low end frequencies lol?
You might want to be telling your audience that unless there is a PHONO PREAMP built into the turntable or into the monitors themselves, you will need a phono preamp connected between the turntable and the main monitor. This turntable in this video has a magnetic cartridge, so a phono preamp is needed.
The Marley has a built in preamp. We have talked about this many many times and have reviewed many preamps as well as done instructional videos on how magnetic carts vs ceramic carts work.
Hello! Would this monitors work on the audio technicha lp60x? I'm interested but I'm beyond ignorant on the matter
Great job!
Thanks!
Nice review! :)
dope review
For turntable usage, how would these compare to the Klipsch R-41PM? or the Presonus Eris e5 XT? Because I've got the Klipsch R-41PM on my main turntable/speaker (with the Audio Technica AT-LP120X USB) setup which sound great, I want a new setup for my other place, I'll buy the Audio Technica AT-LP120X USB again as I love it, and was wondering what speakers I should pair it with this time. Thanks!
I like these but I haven't really played with too many yet.
They sound good as hell on monitor headphones... I can't wait until they're delivered...
Excellent choice :)
Those are in fact speakers
do they hiss !!!
MIXING TIP!! Make a duplicate of your tack. Turn Volume DOWN and mix on 1 ,Then Volume UP on other and mix!! Compare Mixes!
Clickbaitey title there...
I like you reintroduced the recordsmasher though 😜
I'd just like to point out that you referred to these "NOT speakers" as speakers several times over the course of your "These are NOT speakers" video. All kidding aside, Great job I have been looking at these, MONITORS, for while. Your video is helpful.
Thank You Thank You Thank You!
You are so welcome!
i listened to this on my E4.5s lol just got them yesterday lol
wow! awesome!
Awesome review..
Glad you enjoyed it
This is the first time I know your channel. Can i make friend with you
It's a bird .. (Title of TH-cam recommended next video, should be correct)
I ended up with the Eris 3.5bt, something just is so good about them, even without the sub out, I feel like it's just a better value.
You can get the presonus 8" sub and run a connection from it to these or the 3.5s for one of the best sounding, full range listening experiences I've ever, well, experienced.
How is 1280Ts the same speaker?
@@LobotimirMerkanskiIt’s not
Demagnetize the lp... Are you serious? It is mechanical dude....
Don't get these cheap monitor's if you like to listen to the hiss when nothing is playing go for it
Good video, worth learning. Thanking you. Wish you develop more .. learn exchange offline
