My office has a pair and there is a switch at the back which takes off standby mode, its better than having it on, which causes that huge delay

I found this video because I actually noticed this hiss from my 1st gen 3.5's and was looking to see if anyone else had the same thing, and maybe I just never noticed it before. After a bit more searching I discovered it was bad capacitors. The capacitors PreSonus is using in these speakers are absolute junk and it seems like they *will* go bad eventually. I opened my 3.5's up and sure enough, two capacitors were bulging (the same two I saw in other videos), but all the capacitors were from the same company ("Cap-Top") so I replaced both the bad ones and any others that I could with high quality caps (there were a couple that I didn't have replacements for, but those ones at least looked ok). This 100% fixed the hiss.
I realize you're having problems with the second-gen 4.5's but I would bet they are using these same caps and it might even be that they're all from the same batch and have just been sitting around in PreSonus' warehouse for years now. If you'd been able to keep using your 3.5's, it would almost certainly have happened to them at some point too.
PreSonus has been going around calling this a feature, not a bug. I think they know that this is a huge problem and the only thing they could really do about it is either recall every speaker they've sold in the last 5 years or extend the warranties on all of them. Either option would probably put them out of business, it'd be so costly. So they're leaving consumers out to dry. I doubt they're going to survive this long-term, though; their quality reputation is only going to get worse and worse as this happens to more and more speakers. But it *is* possible to fix them and it's not all that difficult. I'm sure you could fix your 4.5's. If you open them up, you'll probably even see the bulging caps already.

They just came out with a Studio 5. Have you had a chance to check those out? Seems like that would solve some of the issues with the smaller ones.

I have these Eris 3.5 and my ONLY complaint is they're not as flat/transparent as other studio monitors. They're mid for recording. Now with your problem are you sure your electrical outlets don't have faulty ground?

I have the same problem. I went as far to have TSR cables and a power conditioner thinking these were the issue and NOPE. Even on pure bluetooth connection, when no source the speakers hiss and just like you said their forums are full of people with the same problem. Amazon reviews are trash now-a-days.

I got the gen1 of 3.5, and indeed it didn't had the hiss noise, but since it's presonus and knowing their reputation when it comes to customer support like a chinese manufacturer, id rather not recommend their product to anyone who does not know what they are buying these days. but hiss noise are pretty much normal to active monitor speakers that are labeled budget speakers, if possible just get a nice midrange near field monitors or hi-fi speakers if you don't want those hiss noise

  • @xvnbm

I have the first generation model of 4.5BT and they do not have peeping noise, but there is some hiss, if you so close that your face it touching the speaker, but from any further away I cannot hear it. I think all active speakers has some noise from that close. I am not speaker expert and not experienced with different types of speakers, but I came from some really basic old logitech speakers to these and the sound quality upgrade was a disappointment. These were sounding really harsh at first. Although, I have to say that now when I have had these maybe about a year, some speakers have started sounding worse than I thought before, so maybe there is some change. The biggest difference I did notice between these and my old logitech speakers is that these are starting to sound better when I increase volume and Logitech speakers started sounding worse. I think, if I would be now buying speakers, I would take Eris E5 rather than these. I bought these, because I wanted the power button to be on front of the case, but I use it so rarely that it does not matter too much. On the other hand, my speakers are close to wall and these speakers have opening behind them and E5 has it in front of them. My speaker stands are also so large that they would fit larger speakers and therefore it doesn't make much sense to have smaller speakers there than they can handle. Overall I think it is a decent product.

The capasitors are really really low bad in those speakers, I have both E3.5 and E4.5 with this kind of problem, and I have fixed it by change the 25V 1000uf and 25V 470uf capasitors.

I bought a pair of e5 bt just for resale. The noise seems to be so bad that I'm not sure whether I have the guts to resell these because of the pain that someone would go through. The only solution that came to mind would be to use 2 or 4 ohm resistors right before drivers. I have to say that Presonus is a shady company that has repeatedly exploited the term 'studio monitors' - for example the eris 3.5 would just destroy all created music due to its horrendous frequency response that has nothing to do with studio monitors. And the heavy noise that exists in many models basically makes them useless. Presonus needs to be busted up for these shady practices.
