      I disagree. The Waveguide is supposed to improve dispersion. The regular E5's have a two dimensional sweet spot which moves the soundstage far in front of the listener. The waveguide, IMO, in this demo at least, helps smooth the tweeter a bit and expand the range of the sweet spot. "Deep" is a perfect example of this. It's about $40 difference between the two, currently. I'll be going for the XT.

    While these comparisons are interesting, you must remember that just because it is compared on here, is NOT going to be an actual reflection of how it is going to sound in your room. How big is your room? Is your room treated? I have the E5 XT (with the Tremblor 8" sub) and I prefer them to the E3.5 and E5 I also own in different rooms. My E5 XT sound NOTHING like they do in this comparison. Still fun to compare them like this, yet this is limited by the mic and recording setup.

      couldn't you just adjust the EQ on the back of the monitor, subtract some decibels in order to recreate the track, this upgrade and adjusting the EQ would give you the same results as the flat e5s, with more bass and still probably subtly more detail with a larger sweet spot

    • @Pharesm
      @Pharesm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As far as I'm concerned, the large dispersion guide on the E5 XT costs more money to manufacture than a flat box, and was abandoned to save money.
      Wouldn't be a complete surprise, given the studio monitor market has too much competition for the lavish profits of old.

    Hard to say by listening to a recorded monitor sound, but in my opinion, E5 XT has better separation/shows more "contrast" in the amount of mid-high frequencies. What I mean by that: on E5 XT what has sound is sounds dark, and what is bright, sounds bright, just as it should. On E5 a lot of stuff seems to be "blended" together: flute + shaker seem to have similar tonality (amount of high mids), while on E5 there is a contrast between the flute and shaker: flute is noticeably darker and shaker is brighter. Sounds more similar to the source track.
    To compare it with another set of monitors: Yamaha HS80 vs MSP5 monitors: on HS80s has it's own very noticable sound signature, high mid frequencies all sound more or less harsh, there is no contrast between instruments, while MSP5 monitors show this difference much much better: what is dark sounds dark, and what is bright sounds bright.

  • @axchisler
    @axchisler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    Exactly what expected, right between the 4.5 and the XT lie the E5. With the same driver, the bigger box of the XT sounds looser, muddier bass, E5 sounds tighter, punchier.

  • @iandotson1708
    @iandotson1708 4 ปีที่แล้ว +35

    The main difference seems like the XT is more immersive with clear highs and more sub bass and the frequencies are better separated for mixing, but the E5 has a bit of a warmer, more centered sound with more mids; maybe the XT is better for mixing, and the E5 for casual playback. They both seem super solid in their own way, for different preferences and uses

      eitherway you can't go wrong with any and they are so so much better just upgrading from regular spekars to monitor speakers feels like a world apart difference. It's true that you need XLR cables, seperated audio interface but it's so worth it.

      Now for me the problem was that i purchased it without thinking 2 steps ahead of me. Great interface, but only for like instrument stuff or studio Monitors (it also falls down on what kind of studio monitors you have) but for me i have Mackie EM-91C mic and i do gaming and podcasts, and i cannot mute that mic like i would HyperX's or anyone else's that has physical mute button on it, so I will trade it for GoXLR audio interface which is a bit more expensive, but gives me all the things i need, otherwise i need to go to USB mic to have these featuers mostly like mute button, and im picky about mics very much so i dont have wide range to pick out from.
      So yes it does matter, but if you go with focusrite all of your needs will be fullfillled on audio side of things or at least it wont be the bottleneck in quality of the performance.

      having had the chance the KRK RP5 with the ERis 5 XT I can agree that the E5 XT has more treble in the neutral EQ setting compared to the RP5. First impression is that soundstage on the ERIS is more accurate and sweet spot is wider. But today I listen with Beyerdynamic DT880s and the XT is the winner! More importantly, the XT seems to have a noticeably boxy midrange that is rather unpleasant. I found it most obvious during the Classical sample, but its there in some of the others as well. can you or someone else respond? I just swapped my e5s for the e5xts and have one week to decide if I want the 5s back or to keep the xt's. For me the difference after having them both is barely noticeable honestly and since you can roll off the high end, it makes more sense to get the xt's if they're the same price where you're buying them, at my local music shop the e5s and the 5xt's were the same price, I figured having if I can EQ the high end, and reduce it slightly to simulate the "flatter" e5's, it will allow me to get the best mix possible while having more enjoyable monitors, but honestly in real life the difference is hard to even tell. This microphone kind of exaggerates the difference it seems.

    • @RADERFPV

      @@TheNesta82 I'll share a little story with you that might help with your buying decision. I initially ordered the original eris 5's off of ebay, thinking I was getting a great deal on a pair of them. Turns out the seller only sent one, so I immediately started the return process to get my money back. I figured I'd try the 1 speaker out to see what it sounds like, and I was impressed, it sounded great. Then I sent it back and started looking for a new set, and found the newer XT's on amazon with stands for the same price as the original E5's. I figured I'll try out the new version, and if I don't like them, I'll just send them back and get the originals again, since I know already that they are good. Well, let's just say that the XT's are NOT going back! They sound absolutely amazing! I prefer the looks of the older model in pictures here on youtube, and I prefer the looks of the newer model in person. The XT's are a little bit bigger and reach down 5hz lower as well. I did roll back the high's a bit using the EQ on the back, and it made a huge difference. They are some of the best sounding speakers I've ever heard, absolutely love them. The other factor for me is that I didn't want to end up with an old pair of speakers. They come with a manufacturer sticker on the bottom that shows the date they were made. The original E5 that was sent from ebay was dated back to 2016. The newer XT's I got from amazon are dated 9/2020, so they are less than 6 months old. I don't know why, but I just feel more comfortable knowing something was made more recently. Since the XT's are fairly new (compared to the originals), you'll surely get something made more recently. They're both great though, you can't go wrong and you won't be disappointed with either. Hope this helps.

    Listening on Krk kns 8400 headphones. E5 definitely sounds more boxy around the low mids. Its almost like the overlap between the woofer and tweeter makes the low mids loose pace and snappyness. Maybe it's just the design of the ports. The E5XT is overall more flawless, more open and more effortless than the E5. I had the E5 and as soon as I bought Yamaha hs5 I really noticed it! The HS5 sounds much more 3 dimensional, with faster transients and more open. Trouble is with HS5, my mixes translate well but always end up with slightly overblown lows. I imagine the XT is the best of both worlds..open and neutral but with a bit of warmth and a decent low end.

      For your information, might to be of concern for some. I went with the XT's in the end because I mix mainly electronic music.
      Had I been more into acoustic music I think I would have preferred the old E5's based on this comparison.

      So, I said how I would rate your reviewing system.
      It's great although I extrapolated from your demo of the Focal alpha 80.
      Because I bought Focal alpha 65's in the end due to serious delivery problems on the XT's.
      I actually listened to the Alpha 80's as well in the store and your recording was pretty much spot on with most of the difference coming from your room and my headphones.
      Now someone needs to find a way to simulate recording monitor speakers decently as I actually prefer your recordings over pure headphone sound. With the exception of bass response.
      Your new video's are very helpful. Short bits so your brain doesn't get used to a certain sound with the original recording in the mix so you can compare the difference between the source material and the sound of the speaker.
