    I got the 3.5 Eris back in 2019 (1st Gen), still works like a tank. Great for multimedia but not for mixing.

    I see what you're saying about the speakers, that there's a minimal difference in sound quality between the 3.5 and 4.5-inch versions of the speakers, but I'd like to point out that the knobs on the back are supplied to help correct for problems in the space you're putting the speakers in so that you can make them sound more flat.
    If you're, let's say, forced to place the speakers up near a wall, you should turn down the bass frequencies a little bit because placing speakers near walls increases the bass response of those speakers. Or, if you have reflections from your tweeters making your treble frequencies harsh, you can turn down the high frequencies on the speaker to help keep them in check. It takes some training to be able to hear the problems, but it's really helpful to have those knobs for fine-tuning the sound when you can't solve those problems in better ways like by speaker placement or room treatment.
    As for the seeming worthlessness of the 4.5-inch speakers over the 3.5-inch ones: it's a shame that the bigger speakers are priced more than they're worth for the benefit they give, but being able to hear lower frequencies is the primary benefit of bigger speakers, and in music production it's very much worth investing in low-reaching speakers or else a subwoofer which can handle those really low frequencies.

    Simon, I own both of those sets as well as a 3 other sets of studio monitors. I recommend getting the JBL LSR 305 MK2 series (there is a also a sub available) when they are on sale. I picked up mine for $200/pair at Sweetwater (look for the black Friday sale). They are biamped, separately powered with a bunch o'features on them at 82watts/each (41watt per driver) and they go down to about ...I think it's 47hz? about there. they may not still be 'pro' but they are a far cry above my little 3.5 and 4.5 Eris speakers and really good bang for the buck.

    It depends on your use case scenario.
    i got the 3.5s. They are good for me. I am a guitarist and mainly use it to connect my guitar amp/effects modeler to jam and practice to backing tracks. The bass is mostly pre-recorded.
    I play bass on the side, it is a secondary interest, and i am not passionate about exploring and playing unbelievably good bass tones, I'm only interested in recording a simple bass sound so i can play my guitar over it. So 3.5 does the job.
    But I'm sure that you can imagine, if it was the opposite, and i was mainly a bassist, not a guitarist, then the 3.5s wouldn't be a viable option, not on their own anyway.

      @cybernax13 I have the same use case as you. Thanks for confirming that this is the speaker that I need. Can I ask how you connect them?

      @ianpogi5 i just connect using the supplied red/black to 3.5mm cable to the back of my lime 6 helix on the headphones out. I use a big to small converter that makes the big headphone port on the helix work with a 3.5mm cable. I connect my laptop via Bluetooth to them for multimedia consumption and gaming, so I don't need to switch cables allot. Sounds PERFECT? no. Sounds REALLY good? Yes.
      Compared to my friend's much more expensive yamaha hs7. these don't sound as perfect, but its soo close that it's really impressive.
      They are very much voiced to achieving a very articulate and truly flat sound (also 0 latency) than to being multimedia speakers. Someone in comments trashed them, saying they are multimedia speakers, not real monitors. That is simply not true. They lean much closer to sounding like pro studio monitors than they do to normal high fi speakers.

    Simply put if you are using E3.5 and need an upgrade, just go one more step further like going to the E5 or E8, but if you first bought the E4.5, there is nothing to worry about, they are good as well

      I bought the 4.5 and they suck compared to my Old 3.5 - i am going to change to another brand as soon as i can. The hizz is unbearable

    These are excellent media monitors, especially for the price. However, these are not studio monitors. Presonus sells actual studio monitors, but they are obviously more expensive

    I’ve been using the PreSonus ERIS E3.5 for over two years to produce music. However, I’ve found the bass adjustment to be problematic. Even when I turn the bass knob on the back all the way down, the overall sound still feels muddy, which affects the clarity of my mixes. It's been a persistent issue that’s quite frustrating during production

    • @silent7563
      @silent7563 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      unfortunately, the eris 3.5 has very scooped mids and a bass peak at around 105hz and the bass drops like a rock after 105hz, the tuning is really not neutral, but it's the weird resonance like huge bass hump and scooped mids and very wonky tuning :(

    • @silent7563
      @silent7563 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      your mix might be sounding muddy because you might be adding too much on the lower mids where the hole is
