Fixing my LG TV... AGAIN!... by putting it in the oven

  • My LG TV (LG 60PK590) stopped working for the 3rd time, with the same symptom: OSD menu works fine, and it seems to know there are HDMI devices attached, but it's not displaying any picture for those devices. I've now baked the TV 2 times to fix this issue ( • Fixing my LG TV... by ... ), let's see if it's 3rd time lucky!
    Basic instructions are:
    1) Remove the main PCB from the TV
    2) Pre-Head Fan oven to 200DegC
    3) Place PCB on a non-metal tray, and 'bake' for 10 mins
    4) Turn the oven off, do not open the door, and allow to cool for 30 mins
    5) Remove the PBC from the oven, and reinstall the PCB into your TV
    6) Profit!

This technique works as it's essentially a poor-mans autoclave, and reflows dried up solder. I cannot promise this works every time, and cannot bear any responsibility for you trying this out yourself. You do so at your own risk. I'm not an electrician, I'm just a geek with a plan... most of which end in disaster!

I just baked the mainboard from a 10 yr old LG 60PZ550 because of hdmi glitching and it worked as advertised! Well done! It’s the 2nd time i’ve fixed this tv. I love the picture it displays!

To prevent it happening again, never take out the power cord while not in use, let it be in standby mode always! I found out that the board stops working when it has been left in a cold (below 10' Celsius) room for a week or so without the power cord attached. So, never unplug the power cord (tv, blu-ray surround etc). I`m baking my board for second time now. Lesson learnd.
EDIT: Last time it lasted for 3 years, and it also worked today!

Or just replace the TV... which is what I've done. New one arrives on Friday

I tried this on a LG 70UH6530 stuck at the logo screen on power up. Did not work. Any other ideas? Thanks

Sorry I don't. Its not a silver bullet process, but as you can see does work a lot of the time.

The time lapse thing was helpful except you skipped the entire “baking procedure”. (The part that everyone is most interested in). Showing yourself removing and then reinstalling the same screws isn’t as helpful as that other part! Lol

If you go to the video liked in the description you'll see the oven part.
