As always, thank you for the very informative video. I would love to have my EV6 lock on its own just as it auto opens when I walk toward the car. I think for me though, I am satisfied with the way it is. I could easily lock with the remote, or place my finger over the spot on the door handle to lock it. Also, I can lock it through Kia Connect app.
Once you have a car with automatic door locking, you don't want to go without it...

It's really not very tough, just a little bit of tight quarters. But it's so nice to have your doors lock automatically...
I'm wanting to do this mod but I'm gonna wait for that trailer plug that he is doing as well. It will be more plug n play. I'm glad this mod works on the GT tho.
Edit: Also I found it strange that we can remotely open up the trunk but we can't remotely close it. 🤷
Even my prior 2011 MDX could do this so Kia needs to provide an update cause I know this is possible along with this mod but they won't do it for some reason. It's probably something legal that they don't want to be responsible for.
I know not every car will be perfect but stuff like this should be standard now especially on an expensive car like this. If Honda and Acura could do this they should be able to as well.
Even with the FOB, you need to hold the button to close. Under dash button needs to be held to close. Only the the button the hatch is a single push.
@@gregdevitry3613 thx yeah I found this out a couple of days ago. It's kinda strange that you have to hold it the whole way. I know it's probably a safety thing but it's so not necessary imo.
It seems that the same device could be used to auto-unlock upon approach in the EV6 Wind if programmed for that also. I've seen a lot of Wind owners complain about auto unlock more than auto lock.

Hi, I have the EV6 GT as well and if I stand next to my vehicle it unlocks and if I don't open the door and move away from the door it locks back up. So was there an over the air update or something??
yes my car has this as well -- what I have that you don't is that my doors will auto-lock after I *open* a door, and then shut it and walk away with the FOB with me. In the stock US-spec car, the doors only auto-re-lock if you unlock the car (by hitting the FOB button or approaching the car with the FOB in your pocket) and then you don't open a door
Does door locks when keys are inside the car? Corbin said it does not. I see that you have ev6 as i do. So just wnat to make sure. Thank you!
nope does not lock if keys are inside (ask me how I know!) months later, this is still my favorite little mod, it's used every day!
What happened with the back door handle at 19:49? What happens when you leave the car when its on with the key fob? Does this ever enter sleep mode? Maybe record and watch if the led shutoff after you leave at some point. Now they need it to turn off the car when you open the car door and stand up. Have you got out and forgot to shut it off yet?
The EV6 has some weirdness with unlocking/open handles. Even if you have Unlock All, you have to either have Unlock on Park or Stop. He might have started/stopped the car but never used the Park button. It's a PITA for sure but the door button solves it.
Wow I didn't notice that! I just did a small experiment with my garage door open in the rain and one time when I got in, turned on the car, then turned it off and hopped out, the rear door handle did that little funky wink at me. No idea why it's doing that, but the auto-away-locking does indeed work super-great and hasn't failed me now after several weeks and countless walk aways from the car. To answer your other questions:
(1) if you leave the car ON and walk away with the FOB, it does the same thing as before having the gadget installed --- you get a loud beeeeeeeeeeep letting you know your car is on, and no doors will lock on you
(2) Car enters sleep mode normally; someone else has measured power draw for this gadget and it is pretty small. I have a Ohmmu Li-Ion 12v battery in my car, so I'm not worried at all about battery drain here.
(3) Yes the LEDs, USB ports, and the like and the rest of the car shuts off in the same way as it always does. This doesn't affect that at all.
(4) My wife drives an ID.4 and that is the biggest turd of software in the world. I would rather have an ON/OFF button any day of the week than the ID.4's horrible way of sensing that you have left the car by too sensitively checking seat pressure. If you fart in the drivers seat and move your left butt cheek just a slight amount while in park, the car turns itself off thinking you just left the car. It is really horrible. Having a power button does not bother me at all, and I've not forgotten to turn my car off. I guess that's why there is that loud beeeeeeep for folks who are more forgetful of their surroundings and situational awareness while driving.
@gregdevitry3613 you might be right in your theory -- I have to experiment more when it's dry out. Now that this has been pointed out to me, I cannot unsee it!
Just NUTS it doesn't have this feature already! My Mazda 3 that was half the price of my GT-Line, that I traded in for had this, if it can sense you walking up it absolutely can detect your waking away, no way I'm doing all this hacking in when it could already be enabled if they wanted to. We need to push Kia for an answer WHY they don't do this!
This reminds me of having a car that was only offered with terrible halogen headlights in my country when other countries had nice projector options. These alternative headlights could be ordered fairly cheap but needed some wiring mods to work right. So this guy came up with a complex way to get the out of country headlights working right, huge forum post with instructions, sold the parts at cost for the benefit of the community, etc. Then a guy comes in and says "wait, why are you doing all that? All you have to do is flip these two wires in the harness connector and it does the same thing." Well, dudes elaborate post with instructions was deleted by the next day. I felt sorry for him, but a perfect example of why not to immediately dive in too quickly when a simpler solution will come around, hell, Kia could end up enabling this in an OTA update.
this functionality was left off of US-market cars. I will say that my wife does not like this function in her Ioniq 5, so I think this is a matter of personal preference

Kia’s updates for the EV6 are useless, absolutely laughable. All we get are more relaxing sounds. There are so many quick fixes they could implement. They don’t take existing customers seriously.
Well, you don't really buy a Kia for the software updates. The car has other charms.
@@ev_kimchi Well I guess adding 5 lines of code isn’t too much of an ask. It’s a very basic anti theft measure you’d find in cars half the price of an EV6.
Knowing any Kia or Hyundai dealer can’t even change oil correctly screwing with this and having something go wrong you WILL NEVER GET YOUR CAR BACK from them. You’re inviting huge liability suggesting anyone tries this on their own. Bad bad idea.

I own this car my point was and is dealers can’t even change oil without. Screwing that up. *wrong oil viscosity in my Elantra N.
My comment is valid. Not very wise posting this. Just takes one idiot to melt their car and blame you. Will cost you money to prove no liability which is going to legally be difficult as this a HOW TO VIDEO dummy.
@@uutube243 This only accesses the 12V part of the car, not the 800V. No melting involved since only 45mA is involved. A mouse/rat/squirrel will do more damage. Also if incorrectly installed (or a poor ground connection), it either doesn't work or temporarily messes with electronics (again, not the drivetrain but dash/radio).
