  • 805 sets reach Carlisle! New standard in passenger comfort! Plus other trains. 15 & 16 May 23
    805001 and 805003 reach Carlisle en route to and from Glasgow, after a false start the other week. But where are the seats in 805003?
    Also a pair of 56s pass through
    The Log train and the Land Recovery Aggregates train
    Tesco and other intermodals
    Any observations are my own and not intended to show any authority and may show my misunderstanding.

    More great trains, thank you Les. The 805 seating looks like an improvement on the 800 first class seating.

    A remarkable view of the interior of the 805 newer set. For a moment I thought you'd managed to gain admission to the carriage - and then I spotted the reflections!
    I wonder how these sets will look when they're in full livery.

    A great selection from one of my favourite locations. I've not been up to Carlisle since the mid 1990s when 86s, 87s and 90s on both MkII and push-pull sets ruled the roost. On more than one occasion I saw half a dozen or so NEA vans tacked onto the rear of a Euston bound train. Oh happy days, alas no more.
    Thank you.

    Hi Leslie. Great vid as usual. With all those spray trains that pass through Carlisle there’s an awful lot of greenery appearing between the tracks. We’ve got loads of them, (spray trains)down here parked up in Tonbridge West yard. Stay safe. All the best. Mick.

    Hello, Les. Hope you are well. A great mix. I enjoyed seeing the 805s again, especially the first shot, but I am wondering when Avanti is going to livery those 805s or if they plan on keeping them all white. I know the video did not come out, but were you able to see inside the windows? The 32s with the Royal Mail train were interesting to see, as well. I guess I don't see or notice them much.

      Anthony, the 805s are I think still with Hitachi until they've been completed internally and completed their proving runs. I did take another clip yesterday so it'll be in the next video. If they run again next week I'll ask one of the Hitachi guys if I can have a look inside while they stop for lunch.

      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Tim. The 805s are under test by Hitachi - I don't know how many thousand miles they have to run before acceptance. Once Avanti receive them then I expect they'll quickly receive vinyls. Personally I like them in white although a yellow cab livery would make them look like wasps when approaching!

      Lol Euan so they do. Saw them again yesterday (and I think they are doing a run today). As they have to do reliability runs for n thousand miles before acceptance I expect to see a few more - but at the moment its a novelty seeing them in as built and pre-delivery condition.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! This may sound odd but that siding has stop boards because there are lamps along its length (look on the wall-side rail) so that the adjacent road can be used as a carriage siding for Avanti at weekends until Carstairs is finished!

    I think the UK needs to get more dual mode locomotives and MU trainsets. So much of the national railway network is now under catenary wires I often wonder why there are still so many purely diesel trains still.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways

      Agree to more sual mode, especially for the passenger sets. However there is a surprising amount of mileage without electrification - very little is being done in England at the moment.

  • @colinlambert882
    @colinlambert882 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Unless this new West Coast, mainline stock is substantially different to class 800/802 on the GWR, these trains do not set any new standards in comfort at all. The ride quality can’t be best described as lively and many consider inferior to the HSTs that used to serve for SW. The seats are yet another disaster - very hard for an up to 6 hour journey and said to have come from a design for German regional trains, i.e. for short journeys because the seats are so poorly padded. First class seats may be slightly larger and better pitch but are no better padded, whereas HSTs had a significant upgrade from standard in seat comfort.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My comments were rather tongue in cheek referring to the set having no seats. But I can agree with your comments. I've not tried Azumas, Novas or Lumos but am told the seating isn't customer friendly.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  ปีที่แล้ว

      Vegetation and anything else on the tracks is pretty much Network Rail's responsibility and would require a possession if done manually. To be honest litter is not a problem on the platforms with proactive cleaning throughout the day

    • @m1klgordon

      @@LeslieGilpinRailways Thanks for this, Les. I had thought/assumed that because Avanti manages the station, the tracks within its boundaries were Avanti's responsibility.

      @railfangig6699 ปีที่แล้ว

      Train designers still haven’t learned that passengers want a uninterrupted view out of carriage windows, I remember the current BR chairman at the time Sir Peter Parker being asked about this issue on the BBC programme Nationwide in the 1970s.

    • @damianmurphy6133
      @damianmurphy6133 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@railfangig6699 They're even hiding it. The seat selector in the LNER ticket booking web pages used to show the window locations when they were operating Mk4s and the odd remaining HSTs. Now that they're mostly 800-series the choose-your-seat page shows no windows at all. Evidently something LNER at least knows and is embarrassed about. As you say, the designers ought to know better (I like "airline" seats because of the more reliable legroom - but they're third-class when it comes to window alignment).
