The Oak ridge boys did a cover of this song with the guys of HOME FREE. It's amazing!!!
Oh yes, please react to the Home Free cover with the original Oak Ridge Boys!
The only thing better than one epic bass is two of them 😊
Britt will induct them into the PDC with the Home Free/ORB version.
Absolutely should check out the Home Free version! The bass-off will blow Britt's socks off
I support this nomination for a reaction!!
The singer with deep voice is Richard Sterban at one time he toured with Elvis Presley.
This group sang southern gospel music until the 1970s. Then they moved to mostly country with a little gospel. They are in their 70s and 80s now. At 86, William Lee Golden, the man with the long beard still sings with his sons and grand daughter. I saw them in a concert about a month ago.
Sure, prolly not a PDC song, but, the Oak Ridge boys and the Statler brothers are great groups with great harmonies you need to check out!
Richard Sturban sang with J.D. Sumner and The Stamps, backing up Elvis in Vegas around 1969=1972 before joining The Oaks. Still singing with them fifty years later.
No, J.D. and the Stamps joined Elvis in November of 1971.
BRITT! You got to see HOME FREE sing this song in a video with these guys!
In about 1982 there was two songs on the radio.Elvira and Just a Swinging
John Anderson LOL that was a fun song
Not only did this song rule the country charts - it did the rock and roll charts too.
The lyric you were hearing was " My hearts on fire, for Elvira" It's just one of the great songs by the Oakridge Boys
You picked right up on it. The Oakridge Boys started as a gospel quartet years ago 🎼☺️👍
You gotta hear the Oak Ridge Boys and Home Free singing this this together. "My Heart's On Fire For Elvira."
Low voice is Richard Sterban. Watch "Dream on", he is the lead voice on that song. One of my favorites by them.
Elvira, NOT Alvira.
Also, R.E.O. Speedwagon, NOT Rio Speedwagon.
And E.L.O., NOT Elo.
Lol, plus INXS is pronounced "In excess" 😉
Electric Light Orchestra.
My mom's name is Elvira. She worked as a cashier at Walmart. She said there were many times people would just break out singing the song. Lol! She would even get out asked out. My dad wasn't too happy about that part! Lol!
Check out Home Free featuring the Oak Ridge Boys covering this song. It's so much fun!
You might want to correct the song title in your title.
These guys and the Statler Brothers started out as Gospel Quartets
They have a deep catalog of songs. They are known for their gospel singing. But they have some wonderful country songs!
Elvira is a fun song with a catchy tune and words. That's why it's remained so popular.
The bass man is Richard Sterban Prior to joining The Oak Ridge Boys, Sterban toured with J. D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, who were singing backup for Elvis Presley at that time
You couldn't escape this song in 1981. Then again, I lived in Arkansas when it came out.
Richard sings lead on several songs. Dream On and When I'm With You are my two favorites. Dream on was a country hit for them. He songs it every show. He sings base, and his range goes down to 4 octaves below a piano. They are a quartet,, so that's probably why they sound reminiscent of church. All their music is uplifting and love songs, all family friendly. They are still touring and still an excellent show. At 81, ladies are still swooning over him though none are dropping panties, lol.
In 1985 they played at the Boy Scout jamboree. Us northern boys weren't all that excited about going. The southern guys said trust us. We had a great time!
Check out The Statler Brothers "Flowers On The Wall".
Dream On lead is sung by Richard Sterben(the bass)
That's a beautiful song.
"ELVIRA"
If you love a deep bass voice, you can't beat Melvin Franklin of the Temptations.
Lol...they dropped at the first "Oom Poppa Mow Mow." That face says it all. Oak Ridge Boys have many awesome songs. I hope you get to check out more.
There's a later version where they go go up in key twice, then Mr. Sterben drops the whole "oom poppas" section DOWN an octave to finish the song.
There Is a Song with Richard as the lead "DREAM ON" a Beautiful Song
The guy with the deep voice would play the tambourine on some of their songs. He also toured with Elvis before joining the Oak Ridge Boys.
You're right on the churchy vibe. They frequently performed at the Gaither Homecomings.
People always assume the guy with the long beard (William Lee Golden) is singing the bass and it's fun to see their reaction when they realize it's the guy in the suit (Richard Sterban).
“On fire, for Elvira”!
Check those headphones.
the Oak Ridge Boys have been around since the 1940s but the membership has changed a bit over the years. They were a Gospel quartet until the mid-70s when the current membership took them into Country genre. They still produce the occasional gospel tune. But yeah, they've been around in one form or another for over 80 years.
"Elvira" is a song written and originally recorded by Dallas Frazier in 1966. We loved seeing her on the late night scary movies. And it was a surprise to me decades later to find out she really is a red head
Elvira’s the stage name of Cassandra Peters
I thought I recently read that this song isn't actually about her.
@@Gutslinger you are probably right but it came out when she was popular in late night television at the same time
Hey Britt, this was my favorite song when I was a little girl. My granny said that I went around the house singing it most of the time 😂 also I just wanted to let you know that it is Elvira not Alvira 😊 you also should check out Home Free and The Oak Ridge Boys singing this song together. It is absolute fire and Tim Faust of Home Free IS PDC worthy.
Mine was this one and all the gold in California
I saw them live and that voice ! You can feel it in your chest ❤❤
That bass player has sang in the Gospel group that Elvis used in a lot of his music
Check out "Beautiful You", "Leavin' Louisiana in the Broad Day Light", "Ozark Mountain Jubilee" and "You're the One", all excellent songs by them.
I took my mother to see them and when the baritone sung, our chairs were vibrating.
This is the Number 1 line dancing song of the 80-90's!!!! John Anderson's "Swinging" was #2!!!! The guy in the orange, Will Golden was the carrier!!!!!! Richard - the bass was a backup singer for Elvis for a bit!! Yeah - he knows how to work a crowd!!!
Statler Brothers Flowers on the Wall. You will hear a bass singer. Great song from back in the 60's I believe.
I agree with the others, Home Free featuring the Oak Ridge Boys singing Elvira, acapella
You have to watch Home Free with the Oak Ridge Boys do Elvira!!
"MY HEARTS ON FIRE FOR ELVIRA". are the words
I remember from my childhood momma playing these guys on Sunday morning singing gospel music. Oh I'm 60
Trace Atkins is 6’ 6” of deep baritone PDC material!! Yummy 😋
I had a friend whose daughter went to college with traces daughter in the 2000s. He was a 6’3’ body builder who said traces was big.
Most definitely. Shiver my spine baritone and hot hot hot! 😉
They started out as a Gospel Quartet.
Your comments about the Oaks blending both spiritual and secular are spot on. They began as a gospel group before switching to full country.
OMG you have got to check out the Home Free version!!!! 🥰
I remember this being a hit when I was a kid.
And yes, the Home Free-Oak Ridge Boys version of this song was great also!
They’ve got an extensive catalog between their country and southern gospel songs.
For a couple fun ones check out Y’all Come Back Saloon and Leaving Louisiana In The Broad Daylight.
We wouldn’t mind hearing some of their gospel here too.👍🏼
you have to watch them sing this song with Home Free
Statler brothers ,counting flowers on the wall .worth a listen imo
Richard Sterban does usually have one song he sings solo per album. Usually its a slower song since its tough to sing bass in a faster tempo.
A simple but really great fun Line Dance
The melody of Elvira (1981), is almost identical to the song "Searchin'" by the Coasters which came out in 1957.
This was such a fun song of theirs!! Love their sound!! 😊❤
I grew up on cassette tapes of the Oaks, especially on long car trips. My mom told my dad that she’d leave him for Richard (the bass singer) if given the chance! Lol.
It's , My heart's on FIRE for Elvira. And I think you got your fingers burnt on, The Long Black Train.
CHECK OUT HOME FREE'S COVER OF IT THEY ACTUALLY HAVE THE OAK RIDGE BOYS WITH THEM
"My hearts on fire, for Elvira".....that is what they are saying.
Went to Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1981.
The guy with the deep voice also sang with Elvis.
Saw these guys in Fort Worth on the same show as Tammy Wynette. Great energy and memorable performances!
I called it! LMAO! When you were saying "What about this is PDC," I said just wait! 🤣🤣🤣I loved this song as a kid in the 80's! I think it was written in the 60's, but didn't get popular till the Oak Ridge Boys covered it. A few years later my dad loved another Elvira... Mistress of the Dark!
Studio versions of any song are much better than live if it's the first time you're listening to them.
Saw them open for Elvis. Great show all around.
OH BABY!! I’m ALL ABOUT THAT BASS!! ❤❤❤
Oh man, I totally forgot how catchy and big this song was. It's so super over-the-top corny that it's actually good in way. I'm old enough to have seen these guys sing it live at the ND state fair as a middle schooler...wow, I'm old.
Miss Britt, the Oak Ridge Boys ARE a gospel quartet, through various personnel changes since the 40s, with the current line up in tact since the 70s. The lowest recorded note ever sung was in their performance of "I'm Working On A Building". You can see it here: th-cam.com/video/ZVLpEDwgdpM/w-d-xo.html
You HAVE to listen to Oak Ridge Boys singing 'Why me Lord'. It is so worth your time. I can't wait to see your reaction.
OK, Britt, you really have to review the Home Free/Oak Ridge Boys version of this song! That's right... both bands were doing the song a capella together. The Oak Ridge Boys can still sing, and Austin Brown was really being a fanboy! Then there is the battle of the basses! The harmony, etc! It's an awesome version of this song! BTW, my MIL's name was Elvira, and she was from the midwest (a farm girl) and she claimed this song was written about her!
Damn Yankee's are definitely PDC worthy with their song "Come Again" great song and great video!!
You need to check out The Statler Brothers singing Daddy Sang Bass. Country classics that preceeded the Oak Ridge Boys
Need to watch the Oaks sing "Noah Found Grace" live. Acapella the the whole song
I remember going to a place like chuck e cheese and the characters sang this song. It was for one of my birthdays
The Elvira their singing about is " Elvira - Mistress Of The Night " be sure to look her up.
In 1991 I saw aa group linedancing to this song which made me want to learn how to line dance. This in turn made me fall in love with country music. I've listened to country music ever since.
Oak Ridge Boys and The Statler Brothers are both one of a kind groups and treasure to music. My dad played them constantly in the 1980s. I heard them all. It was later in life say my 20 I really came to admire and love them and their songs. They are great!!! My wife loved them and met the one with the long beard at some funeral for family.
You should see the cover of this Home Free does singing WITH these guys!
Fun one, Britt! The Statler Brothers and The Oakridge Boys were two super big country quartets back in the day. They were both really good. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
I agree that you have to watch The Statler Brothers as "the" country quartet of the 60s until they broke up decades later. Harold is the bass and comic relief in the Statler Brothers. They weren't PDC, but dang they put on a show. Finding live versions with good sound is tough, but the live concert from 2003 is available in song by song clips. That may have been their farewell show. Class of '57 is a classic, and you can put any year and there and the story remains the same. (Oh, and they got their start working with Johnny Cash and did a song "We Got Paid in Cash".
They actually sound like that in person.
3:00 Richard Sterban was hawt in his younger days and that deep voice...killer
The "Oakl Ridge Boys" started in 1943 as the Oak Ridge Quartet, as a gospel group. This lineup was put together in the early 1970's, and moved to country, but still performed and recorded a lot of gospel through the years. Golden, the bearded one, lived off the grid, and when the group wasn't recording or touring, was living in rhe mountains, and not in communication with anyone. He left the group for several years in the '80's and '90's.
Look up the clip from the show Mike and Molly, with the guys singing to this in the car. Hilarious.
Geoff Castellucci. Check out his version of Jimmy Dean's "Big Bad John". AFTER you watch the Jimmy Dean original first, of course! Geoff is DEFINITELY going to be in your PDC. He'll be the guy that you ask your husband for a "Hall Pass" for. My wife had one for him, too.
Have you ever reacted to The Doors, “When the music over” live video?
Jim Morrison is PDC.
That dudes got a big pair of mauw -mauws.
You have to hear "home free" sing this song with these guys
Dallas Frazier wrote it, he took a break from song writing to become a preacher so there are probably some gospel roots to it.
This is my Jam,
Check out Little Big Town’s live version of this song. They do it in a much more bluesy, soulful way and it’s amazing!!
They are a great group
Loved the reaction! You gotta react to Home Free, Collab with the Oak Ridge Boys, It's AMAZING! and after listening to the original you can hear how their voices and they have aged. Also, they make it really fun ^.^
this was my jam when i was a little girl. Have home movie of me dressed up and dancing around to this song around my family. I loved to dance when i was a kiddo. i know its a weird song for a little kid to like. I grew up around oldie songs and country music , ....
I love when you react to a song that i love but totally forgot about.
Agree! Not PDC worthy, but fun to watch.
You gotta wait until the bass kicks in. 😂My dad loved them! He was the lead singer in a gospel quartet. I loved attending the practices.
If I remember correctly, this song was popular about the same time there was a weekly TV show featuring a hostess named ELVIRA. It was a long running, popular show featuring spooky, supernatural themes, what might even be termed "horror shows." But the hook was the hostess, Elvira. She was made up in almost Gothic seductress style and she was STACKED!!!! I'm not making fun of her at all. She was a beautiful woman and she played the vampirish vamp wonderfully well. Everyone knew it was all a bit tongue-in-cheek, light entertainment. I always associated this song with that TV show and perhaps mistakenly, felt the song was inspired by and paid homage to ELVIRA, mistress of the night! Check up on that and it might shed a little light on the popularity of the song. The whole thing was was just light-hearted fun.
