I beg to differ with Vivek. I think owning the bike begins at the point of falling in love with the picture, then connecting with the bike and then the rest of it is anyways there, that doesn't change. But the connect and the love for the steed is what begins a journey of endless miles. A nice precise and concise review covering most of the bike and rider feell. Thanks for the in depth review.
Hello from Maine USA, I enjoy your work. I just want to mention that peak numbers for power and torque are less important than the total area under the torque or power curve. In each gear you will accelerate through a range of rpm; here is where tall flat torque curves translate into usable power.
@@OpenAdventures I don't think that I would categorize myself as an expert. I am a high school physics teacher. In physics we often refer to the area under a graph to find the total quantity that we are looking for. Comparing two torque vs rpm curves for two different bikes of similar mass; the one with the greater area under the curve will feel more powerful than the one with a greater peak horsepower. That's why bikes like the Yamaha mt-07 and Suzuki 800 v-strom are faster than one would expect just looking at max torque and power specs. Peak power is only available for at one rpm point, of course you need torque to get to that point.
This is why I was looking for dyno graphs before I re configured my old harley wide glide. even a mild port job seemed to throw massive amount's of torque away down low. I bought the bike with a high compression 95" setup, like 12.5-1, but they had a woods tw-6h torque cam, and ported/sprung heads. I found some stock efi heads, and used flat top pistons to get it down to 9.5-1, then installed a fueling 525 cam to work with stock valve setup. way better experience all the way around. But yeah I'm drawn to low rpm characteristics, I ride my bikes on the street, and trails.... not into racing, or revving engines at all. I have a deposit/trading my vstrom 650 on the 800de.
Hello from Canada! I really enjoyed your discussion and you made me laugh a few times. I only tried the v-strom so far and I agree with your review of the bike. I loved the wider handle bars and the seat comfort also the low end torque. Personally it will not be my choice simply because of the weight. I sold my BMW R1250GS because I was tired of the excessive weight and I am looking for a lighter bike. I am looking for a Transalp to test ride but from everything you are saying I get the feeling that it will lack low end torque. I really enjoyed your discussion sitting around the table. I felt like I was sitting there with you! Subscribed!!
Thanks for the wonderful comment. Additionally, don't rule out the Transalp. It is NOT slow. It just needs to be revved a little. And then its super fun.
I am guessing he needed more power. The nx comes short on the spec sheet because it is not a bike that gathers pace rapidly. It takes its own time and that can be a huge factor on the highway, esp while overtaking!
Thanks for watching. Vivek got the VStrom. Supreet is planning to get the Transalp early next year. However, we've done a Transalp ownership video on our channel already with Abhijitt. The VStrom video will drop next weekend.
@@OpenAdventures that's great cause I'm also deciding between these two in bangalore and your videos are definitely helpful! But some long term insight will definitely help! Leaning towards the transalp currently..
honda topline has been kinda ignoring the Indian buyers - Transalp being an underwhelming offering, and Africa Twin 2024 not yet launched in India - I paid a token for the AT and waited to hear from Honda for more than 6 months. They tried to push me towards Transalp when it launched but it didnt entice me. Fed up, I decided to give up my pursuit for the AT, took a refund and immediately booked a 2024 Tiger 900 RP instead. @@OpenAdventures reason they gave me was that (in end of 2023): the rims AT comes with were not yet ISI certified. While they could still technically sell the bike as its a CBU, they couldn't sell non ISI spare rims in case an owner breaks a rim and needs replacement. So honda is holding back the launch. Believable?? Not sure. In May'24 after hearing from some Honda folks that AT2024 isnt coming to India in 2024, my heart sank and I cancelled. Still love the AT to bits but Honda is being Honda. @OpenAdventures Riding in a city is inevitable especially when you are living in big cities... you can easily get stuck in traffic for couple of hours headding back home after your breakfast rides... so heating is a problem...
@@OpenAdventures Thats what the mistake japanese and european manufacturers do , they dont take himalayan seriously ,the 411 and 450 even though with their issues have become cult, so now these 750/800 vtwin buyers will definately check a bit lower powered 650 if it provides more value,, i wish they could put more cc to match 850, put a liquid cooling and provide it at 5 lakh INR

Get a good helmet. Some of us use ADV helmets which cause more turbulence than race/road helmets. Vivek uses a racing one which isn't so bad in the wind.
Why on earth can’t suzuki bring the RE ! 99% of folks who buy the v strom will ride it on the road! I can’t wrap my head around the fact that in 2024, we have bikes that cost 13 lakhs come with tubed wheels! Baffling! The v strom 800 re is such a great bike for india! It would have even been cheaper and would have come under the 10 lakh barrier given it’s pricing abroad . What a wasted opportunity:(
Our guess is that most people will buy the DE instead if there is not much of a price difference, given that so many SUVs sell in India despite less than 10% going off road.
@@OpenAdventures i think otherwise. Truth be told, fixing a flat on the highway is an absolute nightmare and a lot, i mean a lot of riders can’t do it! Plus the lighter weight leads to reduction of unsprung weight which leads to better handling. My point is, 13 lakhs for a bike with tubed wheels is just not done! The 650 xt had tubeless wheels and this feels like they went back to stone age on that front!
@@ashwinoashwinagreed. The RE makes perfect sense for India. Lower seat height, better brakes than the DE, and a 9.5ish ex showroom price with Suzuki reliability and service costs would mean death for Triumph in the touring segment atleast as nothing else comes with a reliable tubeless setup. The Transalp can be retrofitted with AT spokes, but thats just more money. The only standing issue with such big Suzukis is that they can be bought and serviced in like 8 showrooms in India if I am not wrong.
