I wonder how many times I will end up replaying this game, considering how many times they've grown to re-release it. Seriously, X360 version, PS3 version, PC Version, all at least had one full playthrough of it, the only thing that bothers me a bit besides how the damage formula works (basically doing little to no damage if your threshold isn't above a defense attribute from what I remember) and the sidequests, you can miss out on a lot of them by completely accident by progressing the main story, as it moves in sort predetermined steps, which is a little sad because they flesh out the story of some of the supporting casts more than just a little, there are places on the map where you'll be hard pressed to really go into if you're not doing their quests, most locations have at least ONE quest tied to them too and have events intertwined, and those may be lost because of that. But then again, the game's main story isn't thaaaat long, what usually takes some time is the combat, and the game kind of welcomes replayability, even giving it's own story a complete nod on a second run, it's just one thing that annoys me well enough that I usually have to keep a guide around just not to miss them, because it's hard not to sometimes, but BESIDES ALL THOSE THINGS. I absolutely adore this game and very few other action rpgs make you really feel the growth between a puny adventurer getting their shit kicked in by a hobgoblin with a stone to completely wiping out their camps with meteors 20 hours or so later, or one shotting that one troublesome chimera on the forest with one well placed thunderous blow to the face, or firing so many arrows in sequence with explosives attached to them to something that their health bar just instantly melts... In short, this game is the hardest and bestest when it comes to giving you a power fantasy, once you get going, you never STOP going and even the hard battles will be a stylish romp to death with the game's deadliest foes, and then of course, after the main game is over and you can rest is the now meaty postgame content, there's Bitterblack Isle, just waiting to make the inner D&D player inside you sweat with how much hard hitting the enemies and bosses in it tend to be, and how it's unique mechanics invites and (literally) welcomes DEATH itself into the battlefield as if it was just a normal ocurrence for a place so cursed with plagues and death that it might as well be renamed "Death's Humble Abode, also fuck anything alive that dares thread in here". I loooove this game and I'm glad this version is yet another good place for people to play, the more Itsuno's games get their just dues, the more reasons Capcom has to give the man more support to make them even better.
Ahh Dragon's Dogma, haven't played this in a good while, I remember really enjoying it. Most memorable moment was the surprise I got when testing some new pawns, one of which was a high level sorcerer, I entered a battle and out of nowhere huge meteors started raining from the sky followed by a sudden need to change my underwear, probably the most epic magic effect I've seen in a game. And don't worry, I ended up using that spell quite a lot and on average the spells deal way more damage to enemies than it does to your underwear.
I love this game so much I bought it 3 times. I would love to see a proper sequel because that pawn system was just so neat and I'd love to see what could be done today. Gameplay is so damn great, and some of the high level spells are sweet!
@CJ P. Very much so, though we're 2-3 years (at least) out from a playable game most likely. Just know that it's in the works has me tentatively excited.
I love the heck out of 3rd person action RPGs but for some reason each time I have tried DD, I always fall off around the 10 hour mark. Not sure why it doesn't have the sticking power for me. Perhaps I try it for the 4th time because I do have a boring flight coming up in a few days.
I think the issue with dragon's dogma 1 is that quests and characters just aren't too engaging, and variety in objectives itself isn't that high. While story missions themselves are fun and engaging the open world always felt like they were given enough time to give it proper love. Like most first games in a series it's amazing gameplay is held back by not having enough to actually do with that gameplay. If I can also add a while I think the enemies themselves are great and all are fun to engage with they could use a five or six more enemy types in the standard world. Dragon's dogma 2 when that finally comes out cuz I doubt they're going to let the series die truly, will likely step up in almost every single way and I am here for it!
You are the first reviewer for this game who finally compares it to Dragon Age. I wish Dragon Age Inquisition was available on the eshop at the very least. Definitely a worthwhile story and gaming experience in my opinion. Super deep character content to mine, outside of running amok in the wild (although even then, after turning points in the story, the conversation seemed to naturally evolve), which I always found interesting. The battle mechanics of Dragon’s Dogma has held my interest for quite some time, as well as gameplay dynamics. For the price point it seems excellent. Every comment has something positive to say! It is nice. Still on the fence, yet thanks much for taking so much time to provide feedback on your experiences.
Dragon's Dogma definitely has my heart. I bought it for the ps3, and again for the PC. Hell I might pick it up again on the switch. I genuinely can't wait for them to make a sequel.
Thx for the review. I don't usually touch TH-cam but I was on the fence about buying this on my Xbox and stumbled on this review. Thanks for taking the time to do this stuff, I'm going to watch some of your other stuff because it's actually interesting. Great job
Hey! Switch review! Thank you good sir. Lots of great games making their way to Switch lately- Darksiders, Final Fantasy X/X-2, Mortal Kombat XI, Dragons Dogma, Final Fantasy XII, Assassins Creed 3, Saint’s Row The Third, Resident Evil HD, 0 and 4, Team Sonic Racing... I can’t even remotely keep up
I appreciate Capcom didn't charge full price for this game, yet still had a physical release. Most older games ported to Switch tend to be priced as much as a brand new game and those that aren't only get a digital release.
Karak, thanks for another great review, man. I never had a chance to pick this up back in the day for PS3 and for $29 on the Switch I feel now it’s definitely worth it. Keep those awesome reviews coming!!
Dragon's dogma's biggest flaw for me is the way the damage is calculated, it's just simple subtraction, but other than that it's really solid, one of my favorites.
This is my favorite rpg of all time. bought it on ps3, ps4, pc. Played it all more than any lame battle royale or mmorpg. It's an amazing game. We need Dragon's Dogma 2!
I've bought this game on 360 and Steam and will now get it on Switch just for the hope that DD 2 will be made or even just the MMO will come to the west.
There is a DD MMO. Its japan only, but if you have the patience and technical prowess to figure it out then you can actually play it. Here is a guide for you. www.reddit.com/r/dragonsdogmaonline/duplicates/3jydyl/how_to_setup_dragons_dogma_online_on_pc/
I've played and beaten Dragon's dogma dark arisen on PS3, I think it is a great game. Despite that, I can't really say that I will buy this game again. The beginning is too much of a pain in the ass to play, unvalanced leveling system, and the higher difficulty settings for some reason lowering your stamina.
Agreed!!! The tutorial is too long and the game doesnt even really get started to me till I get to Grand Soren after that long tedious mountain escort quest. It makes me discouraged to start a new game.
Been looking forward to this review and was hoping you would review it and honestly i am never disappointed. Truly one of the best channels on this platform when it comes to reviewing games with insightful information, keep up the amazing work Karak !
Dragons Dogma is a modern gens Legend of the Dragoons, completely different. I would still argue most underrated games of their respective generations.
This game needs multiple save slots with an option to disable auto save, a lot better UI. If they ever make a sequel this is a must. Bigger map would also be nice, at least the twice the size and more towns and bigger dungeons the size of bitter isle would be great. Finally hard difficulty should be normal.
Glad to see the switch version and PC version priced similarly. Usually, Nintendo Shop pricings are brutal. Will get this for the Switch on Payday! Thank you for this review!
If there's any advice that I can offer is that it's a good idea to watch TH-cam videos to help you choose your vocations and how you level with each one, also about your pawn's inclinations if you want to have them rented. Also be sure to watch a video about attaining the golden idol. I hope all of you love it as much as I do.
I really love that people will still play this game. My brother watched me play it when I was in 8th grade. Loved every moment except those chatty ass pawns 😤😤 Edit: Can't spell for shit 😂
This version holds up well, especially on the small screen. The worst issue as far as I'm concerned is the draw distance. It's so distracting. Other than that it's Dragon's Dogma; a great game.
Any idea if the uploaded pawns are cross-platform (from the old PS3 to PS4 to Switch)? Is the online Ur Dragon still in these current ports? If so, are they cross-platform?
I started playing this game yesterday after buying it at half price last week. It’s so good! I had no idea. I’m on a 2 month camping trip and my Switch keeps me occupied at night. This game is going to be perfect.
Damn, it's out on the switch now? I might have to play through again. Really wish they made a proper sequel. One of my favourite RPGs in terms of gameplay.
It may not be what you would call a “proper sequel,” but here is how you can play the DD MMO. www.reddit.com/r/dragonsdogmaonline/duplicates/3jydyl/how_to_setup_dragons_dogma_online_on_pc/
Man! I got this game a few days ago for my Switch and I can't put it down. Graphics are the least of my concern when I'm having so much fun climbing on ogres, cyclops and chimeras and gouging the shit out of them. The exploration is rewarding, you really do have to diversify your party to survive the next encounter. It's not dark souls difficult, but definitely a step above skyrim, just for comparison sake.
I like that the Cyclops` weakness is their one eye but attacking said weakness will enrage the Cyclops. Oh, and the Orges that giggles excitedly when you have females in your party. Its never a dull moment in Gransys!
This game is so feckin awesome. I played it on pc with mods. The only complain that I have is there is only like 3 safe hubs(starting village, the camp and the castle). The environment feels so alive like there are random npc and pawns walking around in and outside those hubs. It would be nice if the castle was on the middle of the map and not on the very corner. the rest of the map is just empty with monster and stuff( would be nice if there were like small villages ). Some quest affect some npc, like a rich girl suddenly living in a slum , cause you proved that his daddy is a criminal. I like this game, you can take some pawn(pawns have a knowledge system, some pawn can guide you to the quest location and stuff) to quest with you, so you don't have to be a one mans army.
Great game! Only wish this version is a bit brighter.. (I have to put the gamma and screen brightness to a high value to see stuff in the shadows at daytime, but increasing gamma will show very ugly and visible banding :-/ ) Also, Useful tip: when in handheld mode, try tapping the minimap, it will open the map screen instantly! :D (Or double-press the + button instead)
Dear Capcom, here's some advice for when making DD2: Watch both ACG's and AJS's review of your game, reflect on it, then make the best most awesome sequel for an RPG title ever, that will level the genre for decades to come. Sincerely, the fans. P.S: Don't even think about going exclusive I beg you. xoxo

@@newdivide9882 The mines just outside of Gran Soren that you have to clear of monsters, gets a merchant that sells both guts' and Griffith's armor and swords.
I'm sick as fuck right now and 1:25 still made me cry tears from laughter. Best reviewer period.
HOW MANY TIMES AM I GONNA BUY THIS GAME? As of 5 minutes ago, this makes 4...
I got it for ps3, ps4 and now switch
Seriously man, you're the best reviewer out there! Ends with a Mic Drop Everytime!!
I hope they one day make a sequel. This is up there with my most favorite games of all time, w/ games like Final Fantasy and Skyrim.
Nothing says finesse like a 300 pound, mush faced rogue.
Best line I've heard from a pawn was that he loved the grassy feilds and wanted to run through them, free. 🤣🤣 Got that hippie pawn lol
The same thing happened with me but play the game and play thru bitter black isle then you will understand why it's so good.
its fucking awesome
I would love to see you review Outward. It has a lot of elements that I like from Dragons Dogma.
Yes please my friends are getting that game and I want to make sure it's fun.
Dragon's Dogma definitely has my heart. I bought it for the ps3, and again for the PC. Hell I might pick it up again on the switch. I genuinely can't wait for them to make a sequel.
What level are you at on pc?
Thx for the review. I don't usually touch TH-cam but I was on the fence about buying this on my Xbox and stumbled on this review. I've decided to trust you, random person who rates games, and so I'm downloading now. Thanks for taking the time to do this stuff, I'm going to watch some of your other stuff because it's actually interesting. Great job
Loved this game on the ps3 and now on the switch! Good combat, rpg, freedom, classes, tactics, and quite difficult.
Great game, I wish they'd do some more with the franchise.
Too underrated.
They are, DD2 is likely Capcoms next project.
@@RoLliNgPaP3rS And a Netflix anime based on it!
@@HaloEchoe419 shit I forgot about that. Hopes its good, but not going to hold my breath.
They have a pretty successful MMO
@8:19 Mystic Knights can use shields, they use Magick Shields
Dragon's dogma's biggest flaw for me is the way the damage is calculated, it's just simple subtraction, but other than that it's really solid, one of my favorites.
Yep, one can go from doing zero damage to one shotting everything.. Pretty unbalanced
Friend: Wow Dragon's Dogma is on every platform which one shou--
Me: THEY'RE MASTERWORKS ALL YOU CAN'T GO WRONG
😂👌
I like your joke I cracked a smile irl.
This is my favorite rpg of all time. bought it on ps3, ps4, pc. Played it all more than any lame battle royale or mmorpg. It's an amazing game. We need Dragon's Dogma 2!
Owned it on 360, prob like bare minimum 300-400+hours. Got it in steam now and modded tf out of it ooo boy. Absolute gem of a game always reccomend it
Now that Itsuno's done with DMC5, I hope we'll get DD2 :D
I've bought this game on 360 and Steam and will now get it on Switch just for the hope that DD 2 will be made or even just the MMO will come to the west.
There is a DD MMO. Its japan only, but if you have the patience and technical prowess to figure it out then you can actually play it. Here is a guide for you.

It makes me discouraged to start a new game.
literally got on to look up your old review of this to see if i should get it for switch. Great stuff
yeah, same here and Karak promised in the beginning of this video that links are put up "somewhere"
ACG, the only reviewer I’d watch review a game two times. Always making quality content.
Im happy that Switch's users can now enjoy this game, damn the mage class in this game is so good
I almost always had my pawn as a mage. They really are a great class.
My lil brother is about to learn the glory that is this game and im all for spending my money on this gem to let Capcom know that we want a sequel
You think they don't know?
Been looking forward to this review and was hoping you would review it and honestly i am never disappointed. Truly one of the best channels on this platform when it comes to reviewing games with insightful information, keep up the amazing work Karak !
4:38 "They're masterworks all, can't go wrong..."
"Their kind hates ice and fire both!"
Considering how much I am enjoying replaying every other game in handheld mode on the Switch. This will be one of the highlights !
I can't stop laughing at the joke at 1:25. No really, still laughin. Help.
Hey Capcom, now that Dragon's Dogma is on EVERY GODDAMN SYSTEM THAT CAN PLAY IT! Can we PLEASE get DD2 or DDOnline in the states?
Can we get a video of 6 consecutive "damn! this is a great toast!", please?
Hi, I don't see the links to the longer Dragon's Dogma reviews anywhere
Loved every moment except those chatty ass pawns 😤😤
Edit: Can't spell for shit 😂
What is the save system like? Only one save? Multiple allowed?
One save per profile. You can just do the BotW method and make a new profile for a side save.
Not master works all ? Well done sir, well done.
Are you going to do an Anno 1800 review?
So awesome to see you review Switch ports. Thanks, Karak!
Thank you, ACG. I was really on the fence about getting this on my switch, but as usual, you've won me over. Great content.
I started playing this game yesterday after buying it at half price last week. It’s so good! I had no idea. I’m on a 2 month camping trip and my Switch keeps me occupied at night. This game is going to be perfect.
Maybe after we all buy this for the third or fourth time Capcom will finally give us a sequel
Deep down was the sequel cancelled by sony
Damn, it's out on the switch now? I might have to play through again. Really wish they made a proper sequel. One of my favourite RPGs in terms of gameplay.
It may not be what you would call a “proper sequel,” but here is how you can play the DD MMO.
www.reddit.com/r/dragonsdogmaonline/duplicates/3jydyl/how_to_setup_dragons_dogma_online_on_pc/
Always the first review I watch of any game.
The Best
What really confuses me is the online. So I am not missing out if I decide to put connectivity to offline? I can still rent out pawns or am I screwed?
desertfish74 ok I should be fine with that then
I love this game I really hope it gets a sequel and not just an American port of the mmo
I mean… I’ll take the MMO. I heard it was good.
It would be nice if the castle was on the middle of the map and not on the very corner. the
rest of the map is just empty with monster and stuff( would be nice if there were like small villages ).
(I have to put the gamma and screen brightness to a high value to see stuff in the shadows at daytime, but increasing gamma will show very ugly and visible banding :-/ )
Also, Useful tip: when in handheld mode, try tapping the minimap, it will open the map screen instantly! :D (Or double-press the + button instead)
Bought it on PS3, bought it on Pc, will buy it on Switch for sure!
And yes, i'll probably end up making class as always!
Just out of work getting food ready and acg pops up shit what a good way to end the day!
Your reviews are masterworks all, you can't go wrong.
100% buy, one of the best games I have played. Hopefully the second one is just as good.
Dear Capcom, here's some advice for when making DD2: Watch both ACG's and AJS's review of your game, reflect on it, then make the best most awesome sequel for an RPG title ever, that will level the genre for decades to come.
Sincerely, the fans.
P.S: Don't even think about going exclusive I beg you. xoxo
Daddy Itsuno showed us his full power with DMC5, he won't fail us if he's given proper budget for DD2
Just wanted to clarify, mystic knight definitely uses a shield-as a matter of fact the shield is one of the mystic knights key features.
I figure this was an easy slip up with everything you covered, fantastic review man.
