Dragon's Dogma wasn't inspired by Skyrim. Skyrim was only a few months old when it released. It was inspired by Western fantasy as a whole.
It was inspired by MMOs. The director said he wanted to create the experience of playing a MMO in a single-player game.
It was inspired by western rpgs like Fable or TES Oblivion (Skyrim antecesor)
Three word: Dungeons and Dragons or Mega Man Online (Cancelled)
Skyrim is the 5th Elder Scrolls game so it may still take elements from Elder Scrolls

I think even my pc drops a couple of frames when everything is casting large scale spells. Maybe it’s an engine limitation

No, it was inspired by the Dungeon and Dragon games Capcom themselves made in the nineties, which are awesome by the way. and their Monster Hunter games too.

Honestly, this game really hit the fine-line between difficulty/skill and fun. The island from Dark Arisen challenged all the knowledge about enemies and their weaknesses you acquired over time. It really is a great game to just take slow and do all the side quests as the story that *is* there is great and leaves quite a bit to the imagination.

Kaixero easily one of the greatest rpg I have ever played. I played on PS3 and played it again on PS4P for the better graphics. The only thing I dislike about the PS4 version is that they took out the Japanese Rock theme song .

I hope Capcom can get B'z back for the sequel that if I were to wager they are working on now that DMC 5 is finished.
PS3 Version is still superior since it has the Berserk armors and weapons.
This is the only ps3 game I got the platinum for. Loved all the little details they put in, and how they handled night time.
Master works all, you can't go wrong.

@@vennril Because the director of Dragons Dogma said in interviews he had the choice of making Dragons dogma 2 or DMC5 first and he chose DMC5 plus the whole Netflix deal of them making a DD show

@@pulseofme4949 I didn't say there won't be a sequel ever. But if someone in 2008 said that Shenmue 3 is likely already being worked on, I would have questioned that too - because it wasn't, that took another 10 years. But if Capcom already mentioned DD2 then that's cool.

Now that DF has access to tools to measure the Switch's clock speed, it would be nice if that was included in these analyses. I wonder if Dragon's Dogma is using the lowest GPU clock setting in Portable mode, that would explain the massive cut to resolution and worse performance?
It has to cause in 307 mode the switch is 157 gflops which is less than ps3 so that's why it's in lower resolution. I wish they did 387mhz cause they could help a lot.

PS3 uses older outdated chipset that does not support as much stuff as the Switch. Also how you got the number 157 I would like to see

@@krazyhand1653 it's already seems to be scalable across first person & third person survival horror and hack & slash - so I'd say they can experiment more. I'm sure they did make it with scalability in mind, so they can use it in future projects and outright replace MT Framework

Hopefully future versions of the Switch implement adaptive sync. These frame rate dips wouldn't be so jarring.
Not even variable refresh rate will help dips below 30 fps. At that point it's still gonna be choppy no matter what, but more properly paced frames I guess. I'd doubt anyone would notice the difference.

I've played almost all of the main game including everfall in portable and it's really incredible! The only issue with lag I had was in bluemoon tower where it dipped here and there. But it was always playable, and the graphics for a handheld device was awesome.

An amazing game, played hours upon hours of this for PC. Heard it was getting a Switch release and stopped my end game progress to transfer to Switch. Picked it up and am very happy with the port. Being able to play @ work on lunch, on a trip, etc, is such a treat.

Kyle Twood I’ve had a switch for a year and half and it has been out of the dock probably twice. It’s horrible to play as a handheld as the joycon sticks are horrible. I doubt people play it “on the go” as much as they say.

If I have a PS4 Pro and X1X, which version should I play it on? Is the base XOne version missing any PS4 features? If not I might get it for the default X1X texture filtering.

Love you DF can today get any better. So bit of background loving dragon ages orgins and inquisition playing them again (on a high fantasy trip as of late, still love and play elder scrolls etc) and I looked up this game on TH-cam been watching reviews and was hoping DF tested it and here we are 😀. Also another win today checked Xbox store for series X and what do you know is on sale, Dragons Dogma Arisen $10 Australian now you can’t go wrong with that and thanks so much again for all you do.
One of the best rpg adventures i've ever played. It's a timeless classic.

I'm playing this all over again on my X I loved it on the 360 it's strange and indeed a piety they took away the magnificent title song, wondering if it's down to copyright or something... Still a wonderful game and probably my favourite ever rpg
Thank you for this upload! I treat your graphical comparisons as a form of reviews for games that I already researched. Other reviews can teach me about gameplay and synopses, but your comparisons show me if I should play the game in portable mode, or enjoy it on my television. I almost wish I bought DD instead of SRt3...
Quite simply a great game and now available on the go.
Also worth noting is say your going on vacation and you have a tv at your destination with hdmi (usually these days) with the ability to take the small docking station with you, you have a home console with you too, aswell as being able to play the games while you travel, with games easily comparable to later ps3 titles and even this gen titles, if you dont mind some minor frame rate and resolution compromises (again usually not too much either.)
The switch is becoming an incredible machine.

I've been waiting for a while on the zone of the Enders 2nd Runner Mars analysis, I wanted to see the comparison of the original ps2 version, ps3, Xbox 360 remaster, and the PS4 and PC remaster as well as the analysis on the VR mode on PSVR, Oculus, and HTC Vive, etc. Hopefully, it will happen eventually.
They can bring both Zoe, XCX and every project zero. Oh there is too much to ask...

Dragon's Dogma was surprisingly great. Despite some obvious shortcomings (mostly parts of the story) the combat and class system are fantastic. And the exploration is amazing, truly epic sense of wonder that keeps getting better as you play.
Agreed I've played this since it came out on ps3 i don't know what the complaints are for...

I am surprised they haven't done videos on Dreams for the PS4 yet. That's one of the more interesting games in recent times on a technical level. Maybe it's because it's in alpha they aren't doing anything on it.

Video Recording mostly take away ram from the console, at least that what Epic games says.
When they removed video recording from Fortnite they made a statment thag they needed more ram.
It would explain why it have video recording, the texture in the game are bad so it does not uses much ram

Bought this the other day. I largely skipped the last generation, so I had never heard of it. I heard good things, and it was cheap, so I took the plunge. Only a few hours in, but I'm having fun.
I wonder if the PC version has any mods to make it look better.

Picked this up on PC for £5 a while back, still not played it yet, too many games in my back catalogue.
It looks like the PC is the only platform that got a solid port of this game, it runs at 60fps and is slick smooth without any of the frame pacing issues that consoles have but anyway, it still surprises me that the PS4 and Xbox One are running at 30fps, you would think those consoles should be able to run the PC version as that game isn't that demanding.
Am I like stupid or something or does PS3 and rest have motion blur and switch doesn't? I feel like there is some problem 'cause most ports from last gen don't have motion blur on Switch
Sniper Elite V2 has blur in places last gen doesn't.

I somehow passed this game up when it originally launched and I, like a lot of people, was super happy to hear that it was coming to the Switch. I really don't mind a graphical or performance downgrade if it means I can keep playing when my wife or kids want to use the TV.
The downgrade is not very notable aside from a few tweaks its almost the same as the ps4 version, you will love it.
I'd heard of this game a couple of times, but I never picked it up or even saw it really. I think I'll be picking it up on Switch now that it's out again ;)
It really does look fantastic in portable mode. 2+ years and I'm still impressed by having fully featured games on the go; colour me old.

The game works so well on PC I wouldn't be surprised if it could deliver 4k at higher than 60hz. But I'm not going to cough up 1600$ for an Acer Predator X27 to test my theory.

Exactly. They can say whatever they want and I don't care because they gave us portable Dragon's Freaking Dogma, and it's a good port... I'm literally having to pinch myself that a handheld now has accurate versions of Dark Souls, Skyrim, Diablo 3 and Dragon's Dogma. Amazing.

I have about 1000 hours in Skyrim and recently I started playing Dragons Dogma, I have already played about 30 hours. I don’t see absolutely any similar element between these two games except that both games are fantasy RPGs.
To sum it up, Switch version is better than the PS3 version but not as good as PS4 and PC version. Got it.👍🏻

because it would look even worse stacked up against the X and Digital Foundry always tries to paint the Switch in the best light possible. So they never try to put it up against the X unless it's a favorable comparison.

Digital Foundry is constantly giving the switch more credit than its due. We get it you liked it as a portable console, it's really cool to take certain games on the go. But they do definitely carefully choose what not to talk about, or at the very least they downplay a lot of the serious issues.

What a great game, very pleasantly surprised. The Switch version is great and runs well. Graphics do look rather dated but it is only a remaster of an old game so I am not too concerned about that. The gameplay and combat certainly make up for any graphical or performance issues it may have. Play it you won't regret it, except that be warned that it is highly addictive and you will waste many, many hours of your time on this!
Poltergeist is it single player? Probably can be played like that but not as fun?

It's not enhanced by pro. It was released before the pro was and without patches afterwards.
It saddens me that even the PS4 can't handle the 60fps with this game.
Having such game in portable is amazing. Unfortunately i can't buy it on my switch cause i am in Russia :(. I play it on PC now but it is not the experience i want to have with this game.

This game is AWESOME!! Played it handheld mode & finished it last night (first time). I'm highly motivated for the second playthrough. Holy shit! This is a MUST play for every RPG fan. The pawn system is totally genious! It's so much fun, improving your own created pawn for other players to use and getting rewards for it, even small nice messages, critics and suggestions. BUY IT NOW!
