Do you have either of these setups? What about them brings you the most value? Both the Capital One Venture X and Chase Sapphire Preferred are top favorites of mine, with over 5 years of experience on the CSP and almost 2 years on the VX. To hear how they've been so valuable to me, check out: - Chase Sapphire Preferred experience: th-cam.com/video/KR0eLo1BrmQ/w-d-xo.html - Capital One Venture X experience: th-cam.com/video/jUlMmlwLYb4/w-d-xo.html My Favorite Card Picks: kevinyang.info/credit-cards
From my experience in applying for both of these setups (besides the Savor One), I started with the Chase Trifecta as my first 3 cards and added the Venture X as my 9th. The nice thing about Cap1 is that you can check their preapproval tools before applying which makes that process a lot less of a guessing game. Great video Kevin!!!
The pre-approval tool is great (although IIRC they don't show the VX directly?) And my journey is pretty much similar too, starting with Chase and going for the VX later down the line!
@@KevinYang I was approved for a VX last week, and I was shown VX on the tool! gave me confidence to proceed with my application because my credit age isn't great
The Capital One Duo is such a solid choice for its benefits and reward categories. Their for sure are closing the gap between them and Chase 👀 nice comprehensive review Kevin!
Cap 1 has surpassed Chase, if ur goal is travel. But for cash back (or even specific strategies such as southwest or Hyatt loyalty) Chase beats everyone.
My SavorOne has been awesome for me, but instead of going straight for the Venture X I’ll probably go into the Chase ecosystem first with the Freedom Unlimited and the Sapphire Preferred. I like the idea of having cards from them both to diversify my points. Awesome video Kevin!
With Chase's 5/24 and other "timers", I do think it's smart to go Chase if you can, especially with a card like the CSP. What's your favorite way of using points so far?
@@KevinYang Yeah that 5/24 status is always lurking lol. So far I have a bunch of cash back rewards saved up and that’s it. I’ve taken a lot of vacations, but before learning about credit cards so I spent so much money. In fact I’ve actually redeemed some cash back rewards to fund activities on trips. That’s why I like the idea of getting cards that offer me travel benefits, not only to make the experience nicer but also to get lots of free value.
I have a hybrid approach lol. VX is my airport lounge card, since I travel with a family of four it is clutch and the Chase Trifecta (CFF, CFU, CSP) is basically a means to accrue and transfer points to Hyatt. I live near an American hub and they have ~92% of the flights and have found transferring out to alliance partners to get very specific dates on a tight schedule when traveling with a family is challenging at best so Hyatt is the best fit at the moment for my use case.
The card sounds perfect in giving all your family access to the lounges! Have you tried checking Avios to book AA? There are usually some decent deals there.. but I agree, Hyatt is still the best considering ease of redemptions
@@KevinYang I have tried Avios but with both my wife and I working full time and two young kids in school we have to leave at specific times on specific days which makes the process challenging
Capital Duo is quite strong with better multipliers, less cards and free AUs on their premium travel card. Chase great transfer partners but the cards need a refresh. AMEX is in a different level providing the best travel experience and costumer service when compared to any other card issuer. Great overview and video 👍
I got the SavorOne and I’d say - for the following year - the Cap1 Duo is the best, but Chase has a huge differentiator… Hyatt points. So I’m completing the trifecta this year first before getting the VentureX
Yeah the Freedom bonuses are solid but could be much better (like the 5% grocery offers). There's also something to be said about starting the timers earlier though :)
I hear that the rewards redeeming process for capital one is much more difficult/not as valuable than transferring out points with Chase. I wouldn’t want points to just sit
It really depends on where you're trying to go and what airlines you'll be booking with! For example, I book through Aeroplan a lot for Star Alliance partners, and both programs transfer to Aeroplan instantly
Kevin. Some said that chase points are worth more than capital one bc of their flexibility of transferring points & bc C1 doesn't have much options for hotel partner therefore. Does this mean the venture x catch all 2% isn't worth as much as the chase unlimited 1.5%? What do you think?
Potentially! However I've gotten a ton of value through Aeroplan which is a transfer partner for all 3 programs, so in my experience it's been pretty similar! But if you're looking to get value mostly from Hyatt hotels, then yes Chase is much better

I travel to Pakistan to see my relatives every every other year. Also, I like to choose my own hotels therefore, as much as I like the chase trifecta. I think I may just prefer the capital one probably because their Travel portal like you said it’s a bit better.
Nice! I tell people all the time that you don't necessarily need to spend $9500 a year in those categories to make the Savor worth it. I easily get 2cpp. I'm right at that cusp of $9500 anyway. Plus with the first year $300 SUB I perfer the Savor for atvleast the first year.
Turkish to Europe for 45k points and $212. Turkish M+S to Mexico City on United Business class for 15k points and $5.60. Aeroplan for Singapore airlines 60k + $181 Frankfurt-JFK
Actually, Aeroplan was through Chase because it had a 30% transfer bonus at the time. I also did a horrible speculative transfer to Virgin Atlantic when C1 had a transfer bonus... I wanted to fly Delta One to or from Europe but that award space never opened up so I went with Singapore through Aeroplan instead. Hopefully I can find ANA space Sept or Oct 2024 for my trip to Japan... 🫣
Hey man how would you handle having the Gold card and branching out into one of these step ups? Im in a tough spot because I really like my Gold card it earns plenty so to replace it with the Savior One would mean locking myself to keeping the Venture X which doesnt seem smart. Which set up pairs better with the Gold?
I have a question. I can't find the actual answer. I don't know why I have platinum and Quicksilver don't want to get rid of either cuz they're kind of my older cards. Does Capital One limit how many cards you can get from them? So if I try to get both these cards that is mentioned is mentioned or disqualify me
@@KevinYang oh okay, I kind of sucks. It's really limited especially if you were starting out with Capital One and just upgrading is never really worthy because of the bucketing system
@@oaklandtoindy yeah the problem with product changing is one you don't get the sign-on bonus and you're still stuck in the bucket and you still keep the same credit card limit and as you know Capital One is notoriously filthy when giving limit increases
I just don’t know how the capital miles work because they don’t really are counting like miles i tried to book a plane to Colorado from san Diego to Colorado round trip is like 2,000 miles and then it told me that i need 13,000 miles to book it
Who really uses Uber Eats? I like my food fresh and prepared and served. I don't want to have the order wrong, food cooked poorly...I'd rather drive to the source where I have 100% control. Convenience is hardly a term that can be applied to poor products and poor service.
Chase is trash unless you travel regularly. I really wish people would stop saying its king. They have hyatt. Ok cool deal. Plenty of travel partners out there. Citi custom cash> freedom flex, double cash>freedom unlimited and dare i say it? Strada premier> CSP hell even reserve because of the anual fee. Better multiplers. More points combined equals more points to transfer if thats your liking or more cash back. Citi has the better all around set up.

Yes! Hyatt is definitely Chase's differentiating factor here which tons of people seem to love!
Hyatt is to limited in its offerings to be a player for many of us
Somebody needs to set up points with Airbnb. That would kill the game
Capital One is inquiry sensitive. I think you should apply for the Venture X first. Forget the Freedom cards, the sign up bonuses are too low

So do capital one points have equal value to chase points when going through the portal? The 0.5 cent per point is only for cash back?
0.5cpp cash back and 1cpp for travel on Capital One side, whereas Chase has 1cpp even for cash back
