HIAB make cranes, but not all cranes are HIAB.
Some hidden water leaks on vehicles nowadays
Coolant cap (not holding pressure)
Egr cooler (water in exhaust)
Gearbox cooler (water in gearbox oil and over full)
Oil heat exchanger (oil in water)
Weeping water pump (steams off)
Pin hole/crack in rubbish Plastic return pipes (messy and dirty underbonet )
New cars are a nightmare and hopefully you’ve not got one clean piston 😬 (cracks or gasket)

how come you dont do your own hydraulic hoses in house , equipment isnt that expensive
The coolant leak will be a split EGR cooler and it's dumping the coolant into the exhaust that's why they can't find the leak.
Just shows how good VW mechanics are 😂☝️

To a decent fitter it ain't rocket science, it's an internal issue if there isn't an external leak, SIMPLE AS.
Get them to pressurise the the system start at the egr with a process of elimination, water will be going somewhere. If they can't fix it maybe you should try a local nursery🤷♀️

Rather than a 30k tank, instead consider getting your own 20k trailer; no deliveries, just refill once/twice a week by trip to depot and you can move it out of the way when you're not gonna need it for a while.
Stop! Dont buy a diesel tank before you check whether you can park a 30,000k tanker in a bund by the track (A bund is probably required for the tank, but if you cast it yourselves, you can stick a gate on the front so you can just reverse a road tanker in). I used to work in the chem industry and went to a design meeting where the engineers were arguing over how much a storage tank would cost! Me being simple said, why the hell are you building a tank when it comes by road in one, safe at 60mph? And they said: oh yeah ,and were going to crane it into the bund? And I replied: cut a hole in the bund and build a ramp, put a gate on the front like they have at sea defences! And they went quiet. 6 weeks later, I watched the first tanker reverse down the ramp into the bund! Check the idea out, it may work for you!
If you can Daniel get yourself a shipping container type fuel tank. Super easy to set up and it will fit in with your container office aesthetic nicely!
I’ve got a 15000L one and we just order 7500L-10000L at a time as it’s what our supplier prefers and works well for us.
As someone who drives a lorry up and down the m25 and in central London every day it never gets old seeing your Lorrie’s on the road
The crafter is almost certainly the EGR cooler that has failed and the coolant was being boiled/evaporated away

I work for Royal Mail and our crafters had/have the same issues and can confirm Egr cooler was changed which resulted in no more lost coolant
Agree, but also look at the heater matrix. It’s may be blocked. VW could find my issue.

We had same issues with our VW crafter! After 6 months in and out the garage it ended up being the EGR cooler! VW didn’t have a clue! Great episode!

The coolant leak on the Crafter will likely be an EGR valve leak. Seems to be a common issue with some of the new shape Crafters

100% They were off site is the usual thing that they Do , If they can't look After the kit they have no way will they look After Hire Machine 😢

I can’t believe how customers who have hired your plant machinery have done so much damage. That is just disrespectful of them and to think they won’t get a bill because they are a regular customer is shocking. It annoys me when people don’t look after equipment etc etc.
They are getting the bill, all Danial said is they are going to take it to get the estimate for damage at their own cost. Sadly when you give people equipment to use, whether its hired in or your own, you'll get some who just don't look after or just aren't as competent and careful operators as others.

Hirers often put untrained operators on small plant and the damage happens, or allow any Tom, Dick or Harry to jump on it. I worked for a large construction contractor, and they had a rigid permit to drive system way back in the 1960s. They did not won't their equipment ruined, but we did have problems hiring in plant with an operator, often they would be shown a new item of plant in the hirers yards and sent out with it. Only to be shown they could not actually work it or know what it could do.
Looks like a stolen recovered machine 😂😂😂 or a fresh licence agency driver haha

It's Sunday morning and I'm watching Ashville weekly.
In all honesty, as much as I admire Daniel Louisy for the hard work he does day in day out, I wouldn't want his job for all the tea in China. He truly is a credit to the industry and a remarkable person. But boy, does he have the weight of the world on his shoulders. I know for a fact I would have given in by now! All the credit in the world to you, Daniel, the world needs more people like you.

Those easy sheets are great - but on one of our trailers, it sticks out so far. Easy pickings for branches etc on narrow lanes... or oncoming trucks. Thankfully our local engineer was able to "mod" it to reduce how far it sticks out!

Dan, you could buy your own tanker trailer to store the red, then you don’t need to pay delivery. You then also have a mobile fuel vehicle that you could redeploy elsewhere.

While waiting for the work shop booking I would try buying a new radiator cap and see if that works. Had a few not holding pressure so coolant boils off in the expansion tank so no signs of a leak. Could be a quick fix
I think it’s a common fault on the vw diesel engines, it’s the EGR/Charge cooler can get expensive 💰

Common fault with vw coolant leak is the egr cooler done quite a few of them egr cracks inside & coolant evaporates through it & out through the exhaust

The Rail Leasing companies are getting rid od 4 wheel tankers . Some have gone to the Dean Forest Railway I think for scrap, They could be grounded on a hard standing. Just a thought it may help..

it’s common fault on the crafter vans. VW know about it but they don’t want replacement for free

Crafter it's the egr cooler Dan, they won't find a leak it burns off , and it's a full engine out job mate to replace it. Maybe that's why they don't fancy doing it. 👍
Why not buy the tanker lorry?
And use one of your tractors you could park the trailer and refill the trains when it’s empty. You could drive refill it cheaper

i had the coolant thing happen to my car, it’s a pinprick hole in a gasket or in a seal/tube that can’t be seen, they’re best off to rebuild engine and replace all gaskets/seals/tubes

Just thinking out loud - can you buy a full oil tanker rail wagon for your in-yard red diesel storage and have it replaced (by rail)when empty? good for your rail traffic maybe?
Maybe cement could be delivered in bulk tank rail cars too?
Why don't you have a plant trailer for your small machines. It seems nuts moving a 1.5 ton mini digger on a lorry.
But that same lorry might drop that 1.5 ton off and then go pickup a 13ton machine

Need to try and get a vacuum excavator , great bit of kit and very good money in them I believe, also have you ever thought of deferent depots. Live in the southwest and there’s 2 quarries in the area about 40 minutes from Hinckley point C and it’s crazy the amount of trucks. Keep up the great work!!

I feel your pain about not complaining when things go wrong
Can anyone explain why the unloaded train carriages can’t be left behind and picked up next trip. Also why the track along the outer fence isn’t being utilised with additional bays backing onto the existing to maximise the yard space. This has most likely been asked many times before 🤔 apologies if this is the case.

Just a question have you considered getting a road sweeper for your muck away work and tie it in with a deal road sweeper with muck shift :) nowadays any building site/contract work using a public highway for plant and lorries may require a sweeper maybe a buisness oportunity for you
